Frederick Gausepohl
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Frederick P. Gausepohl, 59, of North Atlantic Avenue, a former captain for Delta Airlines, for which he worked for 31 years, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Gausepohl, a Navy veteran who served with the rank of lieutenant, was born in Belleville, Ill. He moved to this area last year from Braselton, Ga. He was a member of the Delta Pilots Association. He earned a math degree from Texas A&I; University in 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Laura Gausepohl-Fowkes, Flagler Beach; a stepson, Trey Colbert, and a stepdaughter, Tina Mashak, both of New Smyrna Beach; his parents, Norbert and Evelyn Gausepohl, Ormond Beach; two brothers, Jerry, Gainesville, and John, Sanderson, Texas; and a grandson. ORMOND BEACH -- Ross Raymond Graver, 56, of Andrews Street, who was in the restaurant business, died Wednesday at the home of his sister in Holly Hill.
Mr. Graver moved to this area in the early 1970s from his birthplace, Brooklyn, N.Y. He enjoyed fish.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Graver, and a brother, Kenny, both of Ormond Beach; and two sisters, Evelyn Daversa, Ormond Beach, and Susan McCalley, Holly Hill. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.
Rose Hutcheson
PALM COAST -- Rose Hutcheson, 89, of Palm Coast Parkway, died Tuesday at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Hutcheson was born in Cartersville, Va. She moved to this area in 1997 from Freeport, N.Y.
Survivors include two daughters, Lenora Standard, Palm Coast, and Joan LaTorrijne, Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alderson's is in charge.
Marshall Johnson
DELAND -- Marshall S. Johnson, 87, of Glenwood Road, formerly a manager for the Railway Express Agency and the General Services Agency for many years, died Tuesday at home.
Mr. Johnson was born in San Antonio. He moved here in 1976 from Lansing, Mich. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the DeLand Library Association board of directors. He volunteer for the Volusia County Schools reading program for the past 25 years.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth, Terrell, Texas, and Richard, Portland, Ore.; a brother Edward, Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Mildred Brause, Sulphur Springs, Ohio, and Marian Stark, Columbus, Ind.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
Theodore Kocik
PALM COAST -- Theodore J. Kocik, 83, of Montauk Court, who was born in Jersey City, N.J., died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell.
Mr. Kocik came to this area in 1997 from Palm City. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; two sons, Richard, Palm Coast, and Theodore, Jupiter; a daughter, Carol Nowacki, Palm Coast; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alderson's is in charge.
Lisa Lumbert
ORMOND BEACH -- Lisa Carter Lumbert, 41, of John Anderson Drive, an art teacher at Osceola Elementary School since 1981, died Monday at home.
Mrs. Lumbert was born in Daytona Beach and was a lifelong resident of the area. A graduate of Mainland High School, she had simultaneously earned her associate of arts degree from Daytona Beach Community College. She later earned her bachelor's degree in arts education from Florida State University. She volunteered at Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens. She enjoyed modeling.
Survivors include her husband, Chris; her father, William Carter, Ormond Beach; a brother, Bill Carter, Gainesville; and a sister, Sherry Bubeck, DeLand. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

DELAND -- Dorothea M. Marvel, 103, of Chipola Avenue, a former teacher, died Tuesday at Woodland Terrace Nursing Center.
Mrs. Marvel, who was born in Curwensville, Pa., moved here 12 years ago from Rochester, N.Y. She was a member of the DeLand Garden Club; the American Legion Post 259 Auxiliary; Order of Eastern Star Sallie Harrison Chapter 314, Rochester; Daughters of the American Revolution; the National Retired Teachers Association; and Presbyterian Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Snow, Thompson, Pa.; and Julie Gagnon, DeLand, who provided for her care. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

LAKELAND -- Harry Thomas "Tom" Nelms, 75, of Lakeland, formerly of Daytona Beach, died Sunday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Nelms, who was a funeral director, was born in Kingsport, Tenn., and moved to Lakeland in 1982 from Daytona Beach. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6925, American Legion Post 4, Polk County Harley Owners Group Chapter 0687 and the International Brotherhood of Motorcycles.

ORMOND BEACH -- John Stanley Panasewic, 87, of Ocean Aire Terrace, who owned and operated a hardware and lawn mower shop, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Born in Phoenixville, Pa., Mr. Panasewic moved to this area 25 years ago from Folsom, Pa. He enjoyed inventing and repairing various items.

Thelma Robinson
MELBOURNE -- Thelma Lee Robinson, 79, of South Linden Way, sister of New Smyrna Beach residents Naomi Cummings and Rose Franklin, died Tuesday at Holmes Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Robinson, a retired custodian for Trans World Airlines, was born in Willacoochee, Ga. She moved to Florida 22 years ago from Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of Shiloh Christian Center.

Harold Rose
DAYTONA BEACH -- Harold M. Rose, 79, of Seneca Boulevard, owner of Laurence G. Johnson Realty, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mr. Rose, an Air Force master sergeant until retiring in 1964 after more than 20 years of service, was born in Daytona Beach. He lived in Orlando until returning to this area in 1971. He worked in real estate since 1962 and also held stock broker and private investigator licenses. He was an Orlando special police officer in the 1960s. He later worked in the Orlando Post Office for five years before transferring to the Daytona Beach office in 1972 and retiring in 1977. A Strategic Air Command Academy graduate, he served in the 43rd Service Squadron during World War II, and the National and Florida State guards. He had been a first sergeant and sergeant major while at McCoy Air Force Base, Orlando.
His memberships included: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1590; American Legion Post 50; the Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach chapters of Sons of the American Revolution; the Central Florida chapter of Sons of the Revolution; the Kentucky Colonels; the Confederate Air Force; Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 189; the Daytona Beach Area Association of Realtors; Real Estate Appraisers; and the Seabreeze and Mainland high school alumni. He was a past president of the Toast Masters Club at McCoy AFB and the Veterans and Business Men's Association.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Annabelle; three daughters, Victoria Malloy, Daytona Beach, Allene Noll, Longwood, and Arlene Jackson, Stockbridge, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. ORMOND BEACH - Raymond A. Yencha, 75, of Carol Road, a retired steel worker, died Friday at Indigo Manor Nursing Home, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Yencha was born in Marguerite, Pa., and moved to this area in 1988 from Avonmore, Pa. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church, the Men's Club, the Firemen's Club, Marguerite, and the P.N.A. Club and the Jeonode Club, both of Avonmore. While in Avonmore, he served as eucharistic minister and Sunday School teacher in his church.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Dorothy; two sons, Raymond Jr., Palm Coast, and Christopher, Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Dorothy Lefford, Ormond Beach; four sisters, Irene Chrisman and Rita Yencha, both of Greensburg, Pa., Val Harvey, Guntersville, Pa., and Dottie Nicholas, Pittsburgh; and seven grandchildren. Donald Carlin
Donald Carlin, passed away after a brief illness on November 11. He was Co-Founder and President of Kahn-Carlin Company Inc., and Founder and Chairmanof LEO Charitable Foundation for Law Enforcement Officers. An ardent supporter of the performing and visual arts, Donald gave generously to the building of the new Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami, to the Florida Grand Opera, The New World Symphony, The Miami City Ballet, The University of Miami and Barry University. In the year 2000, Donald was recognized as Outstanding Philanthropist of the year, by The National Society of Fund Raising. Frank Coffin Gardener
Frank Coffin Gardener, 80, business owner, retired lawyer, fourth-generation farmer, passed away peacefully in the company of all his children, October 31 in Miami. After graduation from Yale University in 1951, Mr. Gardner joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving as a Captain in the Korean Conflict. After the war, he attended Harvard Law School graduating in 1956. Foregoing a career with a large corporate firm, Mr. Gardner chose to return to Miami where he became corporate counsel for a Miami-based airline and "hung out his own shingle". Mr. Gardner maintained a private law practiced in Miami for many years. At the same time, Mr. Gardner began a number of successful business ventures. Mr. Gardner served on the Board of Directors of: Continental Citrus Corporation, Continental Mortgage Investors, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, The First National Bank of Palm Beach, The Marine Corps University Foundation, Middlesex School, Plymouth Congregational Church and Ransom Everglades School. Mr. Gardner, a man of courtly demeanor, was an avid reader, accomplished tennis player and expert fisherman. He loved his home on Nantucket Island and spent a great deal of this leisure time there with family and friends. Mr. Gardner is survived by his children Beau Gardner, Courtney Berry, Peter Gardner and his spouse Gina, and his four grandchildren, Gardner Berry, Jared, Christian, and Patrick Gardner. The memorial service was held November 8 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove. Mark W. Gillett, 45, died suddenly November 5 at his home in York, Penn. Born in Coral Gables, he was a son of Wallace and Beverly Gillett. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and music. He is survived by two brothers, Joseph and Michael Gillett; and his fiancee, Sharon Michener of Hellam. Burial will be private.
Kenneth Gale Hawkes
Kenneth Gale Hawkes, March 15, 1949 to October 31. Florida Bar Board Certified Admiralty and Maritime Lawyer and Maritime Security Expert, Kenneth Gale Hawkes, passed away on October 31. Mr. Hawkes was born in Springfield, Mass. and grew up in Norway, England, and the United States. He graduated from the University of Washington, in Seattle, in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, Mr. Hawkes served as a Combat Cargo Officer aboard an amphibious ship (LPD), as well as ships security officer, nuclear weapons security officer and chief law enforcement and Legal Officer. When not afloat he served as armored amphibious tractor platoon commander and company executive officer. Following his military career he attended University of Miami and in 1979 obtained a Juris Doctor in Maritime Law. He has practiced Maritime Law for 30 years in the Tampa-St.Petersburg, and Miami Florida areas. Mr. Hawkes held a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and taught hand-to-hand com- bat, personal security, and counter-terrorist tactics to corporate, civilian, and military personnel. Mr. Hawkes was Sr. Vice President of Maritime Security of Wackenhut Corporation in Coral Gables. He was on the founding Board of Directors for the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS), former Chairman of the Maritime Security Committee of the Marine Council of Greater Miami, former chairman of the ASIS Subcommittee on Seaports and Harbors. He is a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and long-standing member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. He was an adjunct professor in the Continuing Education Department at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. After September 11, 2001 he was invited by the International Maritime Organization (United Nations) to write and hold seminar/workshops on Maritime Security world- wide. Working with American Bureau of Shipping he traveled throughout the world training their ROS personnel in maritime security. Mr. Hawkes is the author of the seminal textbook on maritime security, MARITIME SECURITY (Cornell Maritime Press, 1989) as well as numerous papers and magazine articles. Mr. Hawkes is survived by his Wife, Linda. Parents E.G. and Joy Hawkes, Sons Erik and Ian and their Mother Tory. Brothers Gil and G.W. Hawkes and their wives. Autorita de Ayala Hogan, resident of Coral Gables, passed away on November 10. Aurora was born in Havana, Cuba and graduated for Colegio de Sepulveda. She became press secretary in Cuba for the Grau administration. She exiled in the late 50's and had a long career in the airline industry. She was predeceased by her husband of over 25 years George J. Hogan; Aurorita is survived by her daughter, Annette Patricia Hogan; sister, Lourdes Garcia-Vidal; brother-in- law, Raoul Garcia-Vidal; nephews, Stephen Garcia-Vidal and Rebeca Acosta, Ronald Garcia-Vidal and Layna De Laurentis; Delfina Espinosa. A Resurrection Mass was held November 13 in St. Raymond Catholic Church located at 3475 S.W. 17th Street. A Christian burial will follow at Woodlawn Park North.
