Bobby Harold Rucker

OLD TOWN - Bobby Harold Rucker Sr. died Sunday at Shands at UF. He was 78.

Mr. Rucker was born in Bell and was a lifelong area resident. He was a rancher and served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Cherry Sink Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Rucker, and daughter, Sharon Rucker.

Survivors include his wife, Theo Rucker; daughters Linda Douglas of Gilchrist County, Betty Varnes of Cross City, Donna Caceres of Ponte Vedra Beach and Jennifer Harvard of Jacksonville; sons Bobby Rucker Jr. and Benji Rucker, both of Old Town; brothers Teddy Rucker of Branford and Joe Rucker of Albany, Ga.; a sister, R.E. Flocker of Ormond Beach; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Grace Crider Rogers Thomas

Grace Crider Rogers Thomas of Hawthorne died Monday at Shands at AGH. She was 77.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Williston and was a lifelong resident of Alachua County and a graduate of P.K. Yonge High School.

She was a partner in Thomas Builders Inc. Earlier in her career, Mrs. Thomas worked as a secretary at the Florida Division of Plant Industry and the University of Florida. She was a former president of the National Secretaries' Association and was keynote speaker at one of the organization's national conventions. She also was an avid gardener.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Lawton Thomas; a daughter, Terre Lynn Wester of New Orleans; sons Jack E. Rogers of Rochelle, Danny R. Rogers of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and Larry W. Rogers of Hawthorne; sisters Nell C. Albert of Orlando and Eula C. Brabham of Williston; brothers R. Rudolph Crider of Micanopy and O. Lorenzo Crider of New Bern, N. C.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Geraldine Bohannan Erickson

Geraldine Bohannan Erickson of Gainesville died July 20 in Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Erickson was born in Huntsville, Ala., and moved to Gainesville from Cocoa Beach 21 years ago. She enjoyed playing the piano and, as a young woman, was a pianist in a movie theater showing silent films. Mrs. Erickson was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Erickson was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. Erickson, and her son, John Erickson.

Survivors include a grandson, Evan Erickson of Gainesville, and a sister, Ruby Arnold of McLean, Va.

Pamela Diane Pointer

BRANFORD -- Pamela Diane Pointer died Friday in a car accident in Suwannee County. She was 39.

Mrs. Pointer moved to Branford from High Springs six months ago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Beulah Bone of Alachua; her grandmother, Mary Wood of Alachua; her husband, Joey Pointer; one stepson, Joey Pointer of Branford; one son, Julian Corbett Bradley of Lakeland; and two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Bradley of Gainesville and Jessica Miann Pointer of Branford.

Alice Price

Former Gainesville resident Alice Price died June 28 in Cleveland. She was 93.

Mrs. Price was born in the Philippines and moved to Gainesville in 1969, living here until 1998.

Her survivors include six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jane P. Beyers

Jane P. Beyers of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 79.

Mrs. Beyers was born in White Plains, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Chicago 14 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband, Bryant W. Beyers of Gainesville; a daughter, Susan Brignac of New Orleans; a son, Richard A. Beyers of Mount Prospect, Ill.; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Ethel Mae Flynn Cue

Ethel Mae Flynn Cue of Gainesville died Sunday at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Pierce following a brief illness. She was 70.

Mrs. Cue was born in Andalusia, Ala., and moved to Gainesville in the late 1940s.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Southeast Tenth Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deloris Bradley, and sons Robert Bradley and Donald Ray Cue.

Survivors include her former husband, Issac Cue of Gainesville; daughters Linda J. Cue of Johnson and Brenda Cue Washington of Port St. Lucie; sons Charles Bradley and Michael I. Cue, both of Gainesville; 24 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Hardy William Taylor Jr.

LAWTEY - Hardy William Taylor Jr. died Thursday in a traffic accident in Lawtey. He was 49.

Mr. Taylor was born in Orange Park and moved to Lawtey from Jacksonville 15 years ago.

He was a commercial painter and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Luann Nix Taylor of Lawtey; a daughter, Mranda "Mandy" Taylor of Lawtey; and a son, Michael Taylor of Jacksonville.

Victor Fleetwood Nettles

Victor Fleetwood Nettles of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at AGH. He was 87.

The Palmetto native moved to Gainesville in 1949.

Dr. Nettles received his doctorate from Cornell University and was a member of the faculty of the horticulture department at the University of Florida. He received the Bronze Star for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Grace Noble Nettles of Gainesville; daughters Bea Nettles of Urbana, Ill., Elizabeth Nettles Clark of Baton Rouge, La., and Constance Nettles Scott of Gainesville; sons Victor Fleetwood Nettles Jr. of Dillon, Mont., and John Robert Nettles of Gainesville; and 11 grandchildren.

Emma Lee Cannon

CHIEFLAND - Emma Lee Cannon died Wednesday at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton. She was 101.

Mrs. Cannon was a lifelong resident of Chiefland.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chiefland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leasman Cannon.

Mrs. Cannon has no immediate survivors.

Effie Mae Shackelford

LAKE CITY - Effie Mae "Sunny" Shackelford died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 80.

Mrs. Shackelford was born in Palatka and moved to Lake City in 1945.

She was a secretary and a homemaker. She was active in community activities and was named the Lake City Reporter's Woman of the Year in 1976.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Sunday school president, Bible study leader, secretary to the Women of the Church and chairwoman for the Spiritual Life & Worship Committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Shackelford.

Survivors include a son, David R. "Shack" Shackelford Jr. of Lake City; a daughter, Sheri S. Harper of Lake City; sisters Charlotte Roselle of Gainesville and Kathryn Harper of St. Augustine; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Louie Daniel Wilson

Louie Daniel Wilson of Gainesville died Friday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 77.

Mr. Wilson was born in Delhi, La., and moved to Gainesville from Newport, R.I., in 1961.

He retired from the Planning and Zoning Department of the city of Gainesville. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Wilson Chamblee of Newberry; sons Daniel and John Wilson, both of Gainesville; a sister, Zoie MacKnight of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
