DOWLING PARK - Ann V. Russo died Friday at the Good Samaritan Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Russo was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, and moved to Gainesville last year.
She was a homemaker and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph L. Russo.
Survivors include daughters Patricia Russo of Jacksonville, Laura L. Binckes of Tampa and Victoria Tom of Bradenton; sons James A. Russo of Tampa, John C. Russo of Fort McCoy and Rudolph L. Russo Jr. of St. Augustine; sisters Miriam Monahan, Dorothy Fudge, Margaret Sherwood and Bridgette McMackin, all of Canada; brothers Patrick and Thomas McMackin, both of Canada; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Roy O. Smith
WILLISTON - Roy O. "Donnell" Smith Jr. died Saturday at Nature Coast Hospital. He was 50.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Levy County.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williston. He was a pipe fitter for W.W. Gay for 25 years and belonged to the Local 234 Pipe Fitters Union. He had worked for Gainesville Regional Utilities for the past six years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors, all of Williston, include his wife, Nanada Smith; a daughter, Tammy Davis; a son, Jacky Smith; stepdaughters Hope Slaughter and Angela Parnell; a stepson, Greg Yancy of Williston; his parents, Roy O. and Joy Smith Sr.; a sister, Cheri Crane; a brother, Woody Smith; and two grandchildren.

James A. Moir
MELROSE - James A. Moir died Wednesday at his residence.
He was 84.
Mr. Moir was born in Lorain, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his return, he married
Eloise R. "Pat" Deveny on June 9, 1945. He was a social worker and a partner in a paint store in Lorain. After retirement, he moved to Lehigh Acres and later to Melrose. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed gardening and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Moir of Melrose; daughters Leslie Harper of Melrose, Marcia Beltzer of St. Charles, Mich., Patricia Fischer of Vermilion, Ohio, Margaret Moir of Mansfield, Ohio, and Lisa Cardoza of Fort Myers; a son, Dale Moir of Lisle, Ill.; a sister, Lila Moir of Lehigh Acres; a brother, Alexander Moir of Bonita Springs; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.
Thelma C. Stephens
Thelma C. Stephens died Friday at her residence in Gainesville following an extended illness.
She was 78.
Mrs. Stephens was born in Bluesfield, W.Va., and moved to Gainesville 29 years ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stephens, who died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Roger W. Stephens of Alachua; a sister, Dorothy Arrington of Keystone Heights; brothers Adrian Compton of Gainesville and Clarence Compton of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren; and a great-grand- child.

Caroline Johnson
Caroline Johnson, a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County, died Thursday in Gainesville. She was 103.
Mrs. Johnson was born and raised on one side of County Line Road. When she married
Nolan Johnson, she moved to the other side of the road.
"Folks didn't move around much back then, " said her son, William Johnson of Gainesville.
She raised three children, two of her own and an orphan, Johnson said. "She always had a big garden, " he said. "She would can everything."
The family would head to town in a wagon about once a month, Johnson said.
"Even when we got a car - a 1922 Model A - it would take half a day to get to town, " he said. "That car was always overheating."
Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Johnson.
In addition to her son, William Johnson, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Senterfiet of Seabring; and an adopted son, Bill Snyder of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Leonard Ray Dees
LAKE BUTLER - Leonard Ray Dees of rural Lake Butler died Monday at Lake Butler Hospital following a sudden illness. He was 50.
Mr. Dees was born in San Antonio, Fla., and lived in the Lake Butler area for most of his life.
He was a saw operator and grader with Gator Reman of Worthington Springs.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Butler.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Horton of Lake City, and Stephanie Dees and Victoria Lynn Dees, both of Lake Butler; his father, Henry Dees of Lake Butler; a sister, Linda Faye Rainey of Lake Butler; a brother, Roy Dale Dees of Lake Butler; a stepsister, Helen A. Whailen of Melbourne; and seven grandchildren.
Mary Marguerite McNellis Fonda
Mary Marguerite McNellis Fonda of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville. She was 88.
Mrs. Fonda was born in Dunkerton, Iowa, and moved to Gainesville from New Orleans in 1992.
She was a director of nursing and a Methodist.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jean K. Westin and Frank Lagotic of Melrose; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Edward S. and Wanda Fonda of Upland, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Donald John Hurkes
Donald John Hurkes died Tuesday at his residence in Gainesville. He was 71.
Mr. Hurkes was born in Codington County, S.D., and moved to Gainesville from Hillsboro, Iowa, four years ago. He was a maintenance coordinator and a Baptist.
He received numerous medals for his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, including the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hurkes of Gainesville; a daughter, Sharon Archer of Cincinnati; two sons, Jeff Hurkes of San Diego and Mike Hurkes of Portland, Maine; two stepsons, Anthony Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colo., Adam Martinez of Beaufort, S.C.; three sisters, Ethel Garmoe of Hillsboro, Irene Dahlke of Tulsa, Okla., and Luella Holton of Colorado Springs; a brother, Alfred Hurkes of Leadville, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Mattie Lou Lindsey
ALACHUA - Mattie Lou Lindsey of Alachua died Monday at Shands at Lake Shore in Lake City. She was 88.
Mrs. Lindsey was born in Adel, Ga., and moved to Alachua from Hague in 1969.
She was a homemaker and a member of the High Springs Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Myrtle May Bundy of Fort White, Margaret L. Brock of Camp Hill, Pa., and Minnie L. Rizer of Trenton; five sons, Levis W. Lindsey of Gainesville, Virgil M. Lindsey and Ellis C. Lindsey, both of Fort White, James E. Lindsey of Alachua and Edward E. Lindsey of LaCrosse; two sisters, Ruth Lindsey of Fort White and Lettie Rhoden of Lacoochee; a brother, Bill Jarvis of Sparks, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Edward Spohn
ALACHUA - Edward "Ted" Spohn died Tuesday at his residence in Alachua.
He was 59.
Mr. Spohn was born in Masury, Ohio, and moved to Alachua from Fort Lauderdale 18 years ago.
He was a maintenance supervisor and a member of the Alachua Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Fran Spohn of Alachua; three sons, Keith Johnson of Tallassee, Ala., Edward T. Spohn Jr. of Sharon, Pa., and John Joseph Spohn of Fort Lauderdale; three sisters, Jeanne Linonis and Dorothy Gentile, both of Sharon, and Imogene Rice of Kinsman, Ohio; three brothers, Phillip O'Hara of Warren, Ohio, James Gribble of Newport News, Va., and Robert Spohn of Transfer, Pa.; and a grandchild.
Donald M. Warrick
Donald M. Warrick of Tallahassee died Monday in Tallahassee. He was 63.
The Indiana native was a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Warrick of Tallahassee; and a son, Russell Warrick of Steinhatchee.
Grace May Ayres
Grace May Ayres of Gainesville died Sunday at Palm Garden. She was 95.
Mrs. Ayres was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and moved to Gainesville from San Diego in 1994.
She was a retired banker with Security Pacific National Bank in San Diego. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She did volunteer work during World War II.
Survivors include daughters Ada M. Ayres and Bertha M. Sain, both of Gainesville; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
