Hazel Mitchell "Granny" Walton of Gainesville died Monday at her son's home in Gainesville. She was 88.
Mrs. Walton was a homemaker and a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Born in Meigs, Ga., she moved from Pelham, Ga., to Gainesville more than 60 years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, Trudy Hargrove of Gainesville; a son, Murray Wilson of Gainesville; two sisters, Leola Daniels of Springfield, Mass., and Gladys Singer of Richmond, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and several great-great- grandchildren.
Eugene Wilson
BROOKER -- Eugene Wilson of Brooker died unexpectedly Saturday at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Wilson was a retired custodian at the University of Florida.
He was a lifelong resident of Brooker.
Mr. Wilson was a member of Greater Bell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie Brazil Wilson of Brooker; two sons, Turner E. Wilson of Archer and Antoine Wilson of Daytona Beach; two daughters, Gwendolyn Jones and Linda Doby, both of Alachua; two sisters, Viola Clark of Brooker and Mae Bea Lee of Gainesville; a brother, Yarnell Wilson of Brooker; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cecil Warren Barnes
Cecil Warren Barnes of Gainesville died Thursday in Gainesville. He was 73.
Mr. Barnes owned and operated Barnes Floor Contracting Co. for 45 years. He also was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
Mr. Barnes was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church and the Florida Cattleman's Association.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Tyre Barnes of Gainesville; two daughters, Patricia Ann Hunt of Gainesville and Laura Jean Clancecq of Jacksonville; a son, Cecil Emory Barnes of Gainesville; four stepdaughters, Joy Ann Carter of Atlanta, Barbara Jean Kicklighter of Jacksonville, Karen Hope Sullivan of Tampa and Pamela Kay Hall of Loveland, Ohio; a sister, Mable Barnes of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Edward T. Curtis
Edward T. Curtis of Gainesville died Friday at North Central Florida Hospice House after a battle with cancer. He was 71.
Mr. Curtis was a municipal finance officer and the author of a book on financial management. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved from Wayne, N.J., to Gainesville six years ago.
He graduated from Long Island University.
Mr. Curtis was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church, the Elks and the American Legion. He was a former elected member of the township committee in Mahwah, N.J.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Curtis of Gainesville; two daughters, Dr. Anne B. Curtis of Gainesville and Jean Tooze of Santa Rosa, Calif.; three sons, Edward M. Curtis of Hoboken, N.J., Robert J. Curtis of Clifton, N.J., and John D. Curtis of Bedminster, N.J.; a sister, Florence Petrovich of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Mabel Mary Isabell Goodman
CROSS CITY - Mabelcq Mary Isabell Goodman of Cross City died Friday at the Tri-County Nursing Home in Trenton. She was 95.
Mrs. Goodman retired from the Shamrock Post Office near Cross City.
Born in Watertown, she moved from Alton to Cross City 75 years ago.
She was a member of Lydia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mark Goodman of Cross City; a daughter, Charlotte Liles of Cross City; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
William Ray Slaughter
BELL - William Ray Slaughter of Bell died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was 53.
Mr. Slaughter was a carpenter. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident of the area.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Sammy Slaughter and Shannon Slaughter, both of Clearwater; his mother, Marie Martin of Trenton; two brothers, John C. Slaughter and Ricky Slaughter, both of Trenton; two sisters, Donna Osteen of Gainesville and Emma Joy Smith of Trenton; and one grandchild.
Kathryn Parrish Butts
Kathryn Parrish Butts of Gainesville died at her home Saturday. She was 72.
Mrs. Butts was a homemaker.
Mrs. Butts was born in Paulding, Ohio, and moved 17 years ago from Daytona Beach to Gainesville.
She was a member of the Gainesville Country Club. She also belonged to several Daytona Beach organizations, including the Central Baptist Church, Halifax River Yacht Club, the Palmetto Club and the Follies of the Peabody Auditorium.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph E. Butts of Gainesville; a stepson, Kent H. Butts of Carlisle, Pa.; a daughter, Nicki C. Ring of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three brothers one from Daytona Beach and two from Ohio; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Evelyn E. Clance
STARKE - Evelyn E. Clance of Keystone Heights died Friday at Windsor Manor in Starke after a long illness. She was 75.
Mrs. Clance was a homemaker.
Mrs. Clance was born in Macon, Ga., and moved from Jacksonville to Keystone Heights 32 years ago.
She belonged to the Gideons Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 279.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin S. Clance.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Couey of Keystone Heights; three sons, Michael Clance, Donald Clance and Jerry Clance, all of Keystone Heights; a brother, Charles "Pete" White of Jacksonville; a sister, Gladys Dunkley of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
Grover Talmadge Durden
Grover Talmadge Durden of Trenton died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was 77.
Mr. Durden was a retired farmer and inspector for the state Department of Agriculture. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Durden was born in Goshen, Ala., and moved to Trenton from White Springs 55 years ago.
Mr. Durden was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Maude Durden of Trenton; a sister, Voncille Sumner of Trenton; a brother, Doc Durden Jr. of North Carolina; four sons, James Durden, Roy Durden, David Durden and Randy Durden, all of Trenton; two daughters, Betty Chesterfield of Gainesville and Judy Longfellow of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Hugh Lamar Hurse
JACKSONVILLE - Hugh Lamar Hurse of Jacksonville died Friday at a Jacksonville hospital after a long illness. He was 66.
Mr. Hurse was a retired trucking dispatcher and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Hurse was born in Columbia, S.C., and grew up in Gainesville. He graduated from Gainesville High School and attended the University of Florida.
He moved from Gainesville to Jacksonville 45 years ago.
Mr. Hurse was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Jane Richter Hurse of Jacksonville; three sons, Brian H. Hurse and Timothy D. Hurse, both of Jacksonville, and Ronald K. Hurse of Tampa; two brothers, the Rev. Jack W. Hurse of Gainesville and William D. Hurse Jr. of Kingsley Lake; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Kenneth Eugene Brown
PROVIDENCE - Kenneth Eugene Brown of Providence died Monday at Lake City Medical Center following a long illness.
He was 69.
Mr. Brown was born in Kingsport, Tenn. He lived in Florida most of his life and moved to Providence seven years ago. He had worked as a dispatcher with a trucking company and most recently held a job at Food Lion in Lake City. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Irmagene Clyatt Brown of Providence; a daughter, Brenda Kay Sharpe of Swansea, S.C.; two sons, Charles Ray Brown of Lexington, S.C., and Kenneth W. Brown of Leeswell, S.C.; a sister, Marie Winstead of Kingsport, Tenn.; three brothers, Vernon L. Brown and Ronald K. Brown, both of Kingsport, and James Brown; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
