Martha Jean Yocum

JACKSONVILLE - Martha Jean Yocum of Jacksonville died Saturday in Jacksonville. She was 68.

Mrs. Yocum was a homemaker and a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

Born in Langdale, Ala., she moved to Jacksonville 30 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Matthews Yocum, formerly of Hawthorne.

Survivors include two daughters, Leah Ruth Stirna of Gainesville and Carol Fleming of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, John Yocum of Hawthorne; and three granddaughters.

Sally Borders

Sally Borders of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida.

She was 80.

Mrs. Borders was born in Beauty, Ky., and moved to Gainesville from Keyrock, W.Va., in 1959.

She was a retired nursing assistant with Sunland Training Center, now Tacachale.

She was a member of Eden Baptist Church in Hawthorne.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Kolb and Judy Salah, both of Gainesville; four sisters, Polly Prater of Sheffield, Ala., Doris Mazakies of Eldorado, Ill., Louise McMinn of Milan, Tenn., and Flora Haley of Martinsville, Va.; three brothers, Woodrow Sweeney of Milan, Tenn., James Sweeney of Crown Point, Ind., and Earl Sweeney of Martinsville, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Harry E. Lincoln III

WILLISTON - Harry E. Lincoln III of Williston died Thursday in Gainesville.

He was 61.

Mr. Lincoln was born Brockton, Mass., and moved to Williston from Miramar 16 years ago.

He was a retired correctional officer with the Alachua County jail.

He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Diane H. Lincoln of Williston; three daughters, Cathy Parsells of Cross City, Terri Hayes of Illinois and Karen Lincoln; two sons, Harry Lincoln of Bronson and Paul Lincoln of Williston; a stepdaughter, Pam Edmond of Cross City; two stepsons, Glen Herring and Tod Herring, both of Cross City; his mother, Marion Hanson of Williston; a sister, Karlene Ulrich of Pompano Beach; two brothers, Wayne Lincoln of Orange Park and Dennis Lincoln of Fort Lauderdale; 15 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Ariel Domingo Montane

Ariel Domingo Montane died Friday at his residence in Gainesville following an extended illness. He was 71.

A native of Cuba, Mr. Montane moved to Gainesville from Chicago 26 years ago.

He owned a Midas Muffler Shop and served in the U.S. Army.

He was a former member of the Lyons Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lourdes Montane of Gainesville; a daughter, Stella Charneski of Cape Coral; a son, Alan Montane of Melrose; two sisters, Maria Leeds of Tampa and Nuri Zeatoun of San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Margaret E. Monuel

Margaret E. Monuel of Oviedo died Thursday in Oviedo. She was 86.

The Hawthorne native was a member of the Church of God by Faith.

Local survivors include a daughter, Fernsene Anderson of Gainesville.

Loca Rafuse Norman Page

LAWTEY - Loca Rafuse Norman Page of Jacksonville died Thursday in Jacksonville. She was 67.

Mrs. Page was a native and longtime resident of Lawtey. She moved to Jacksonville 29 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Page of Jacksonville; four sons, Charles Norman of Starke, Kevin Norman of Jacksonville, Randy Page of Callahan and Mike Norman of Texas; her mother, Myra Rafuse of Starke; a sister, Jo Ann Harper of Keystone Heights; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Beatrice J. Shepard

WILLISTON - Beatrice J. Shepard of Williston died Feb. 3 in Williston. She was 95.

Mrs. Shepard was born in Anthony and moved to Williston 2 years ago.

She was a retired Marion County schoolteacher and a Methodist.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Murray of West Palm Beach; and two brothers, Walter F. Mims of Anthony and Duke Mims of Gainesville.

Clarence Alvin Summerton

CHIEFLAND - Clarence Alvin "Gri Gri" Summerton died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 86.

A native of Connecticut, Mr. Summerton moved to Chiefland in 1994.

He was a police officer and a YMCA rifle instructor.

He is a member of the Family Bible Church.

Mr. Summerton was preceded in death by his wife, Helen W. Summerton, and two brothers, Nelson Summerton of Darien, Conn., and Oliver Summerton of Coos Bay, Ore.

Survivors include a daughter, Glenna Howard of Chiefland; a son, David A. Summerton of Chiefland; a sister, May Lechak of Darien, Conn.; a granddaughter, Elaine Wigle of Winter Haven; and two great-grandsons, John Wigle and Justin Wigle, both of Winter Haven.

Violet D. Thornton

OTTER CREEK - Violet D. Thornton, a lifelong resident of Otter Creek, died Thursday at Mariners Health Care of Macclenny. She was 78.

Mrs. Thornton was a home- maker.

Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Collier of Jacksonville, Virginia Powell of St. George, Ga., and Annie Mae Curry of Otter Creek; a son, Jackson H. Prevatt of Enid, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Freda D. Geiger

TRENTON - Freda D. Geiger of Trenton died Wednesday in the Tri-County Nursing Home in Trenton. She was 80.

Mrs. Geiger was born in Chiefland and was a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Chiefland.

Survivors include one son, Phil Geiger of Homosassa; and one sister, Betty Turner of Martinez, Ga.

John Wesley Justice Jr.

LAKE CITY - John Wesley Justice Jr. died at his Lake City home Sunday following a brief illness. He was 65.

Mr. Justice was a native of Eupora, Miss., and had lived in Lake City since 1970. He earlier lived in Winona, Miss.

Mr. Justice taught American history and economics at Columbia High School until his retirement in 1999. He was also the defensive coordinator for the Columbia High Tigers football team for many years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City and a member of Quail Heights Country Club.

He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and had a master's degree in history.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Justice of Lake City; a son, John Michael Justice of Crystal River; a daughter, Lisa Waters of Gainesville; and eight grandchildren.

Rex Alvin Owen

LAKE BUTLER - Rex Alvin Owen of Lake Butler died Saturday morning at Lake Butler Hospital after a sudden illness. He was 37.

Mr. Owen was born in Gainesville and lived in Lake Butler since 1983. He was a heavy equipment operator and a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Anna M. Owen of Lake Butler; four sisters, Lois White of High Springs, and Betty Hurst, Sara Hart and Norma Wilcox, all of Lake Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

Eula Thomas

OLD TOWN - Eula Thomas of Old Town died Saturday in her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Thomas was born in O'Brien and lived in Old Town all her life. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Edgar Futch of Old Town; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
