Johnson Jones Jr.

Johnson Jones Jr. of Gainesville died Oct. 17 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 67.

Mr. Jones was born in Chipler and moved to Gainesville from Waco, Texas, in 1976.

He was a laborer, and he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his father, Johnson Jones Sr. of Leesburg; daughters Patricia Ramsey of Gainesville and Betty Davis of Macon, Ga.; sisters Virginia Thurston of Gainesville and Jeanette Herst of Leesburg; a brother, Edward Smith of Centerville, Ga.; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Bobby Lee Mack

The Rev. Bobby Lee Mack of Gainesville died Sunday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 63.

A native of Trenton, he moved to Gainesville from Miami 1 years ago.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Pleasant Street Historic Society and Friendship Baptist Church. He was the founder of The Friendship Community Outreach Development Cooperation.

He held a master's degree in theology and a doctorate in ministry.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Mack of Gainesville; sons the Rev. Jeffrey Mack of Fort Lauderdale, Gregory Mack of Gainesville and Bertram Reeves of Ocala; a daughter, Barbara Lee of Gainesville; sisters Willie Mae James of Gainesville, Nettie Nixon and Dorothy Day, both of Miami, and Louise Reynolds of Mount Laurel, N.J.; brothers George Mack, Cecil Mack, the Rev. Bernest Mack and Willie Mack, all of Miami, and James Baker of Live Oak; and six grandchildren.

Marie Smith-Hawkins

Marie Smith-Hawkins of Kissimmee died Wednesday at Osceola Regional Medical Center. She was 94.

The Ohio native was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Local survivors include a daughter, Brenda Davis of Melrose.

Arrangements by Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery, Funeral Home and Crematory.

Larry Gene Sullivan

MAYO - Larry Gene Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Mayo, died Monday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 59.

Mr. Sullivan was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Church of Christ in Mayo. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Jettie "Joann" Sullivan of Mayo; a daughter, Pennie Jo Sullivan of Charlotte, N.C.; sons Joseph Eugene Sullivan and Larry Eugene Sullivan, both of Mayo; and two grandchildren.

Clint Jerome Thomas Jr.

CHIEFLAND - Clint Jerome Thomas Jr., the newborn child of Letitia Nicole Williams and Clint Jerome Thomas Sr. of Chiefland, died shortly after birth Oct. 13 at Shands at AGH.

In addition to his parents, Clint is survived by his grandparents, Donna and Claudell Johnson of Chiefland, Vernon Williams of Bronson and Vera Mae Thomas of Chiefland.

Henrietta Marie Colvin

Henrietta Marie Colvin of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. She was 101.

Mrs. Colvin was a homemaker.

Born in Boston, Mass., she moved from Concord, Mass., to Gainesville 35 years ago.

She was a member of the Grandmothers Club of Gainesville and an R.S.V.P. volunteer, and she was the first resident of Sunshine Park retirement housing in 1964.

She attended North Central Baptist Church.

Mrs. Colvin was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Stafford Colvin.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia M. Bean of Gainesville; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Daughter Patricia Bean attributes her mother's longevity to her enjoyment of life.

"She was a live wire, " Bean said. "She felt like people should enjoy the blessings that they have, and she valued her friends."

Maxine Gillis Enneis

ALACHUA - Maxine Gillis Enneis of Alachua died Friday at her home after a long illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Enneis retired as a secretary at Santa Fe High School.

Born in Tar Heel, N.C., she was a lifelong resident of Alachua. She graduated from Alachua High School in 1937.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alachua.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Gillis and Bobby Gillis; a sister, Louise Burgess; and a grandson, Frank Enneis.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Enneis and Susan E. Hamilton, both of Gainesville; a brother, W.H. Gillis of Metter, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Johnston of Gainesville and Betty Videon of Jasper, Ga.; five grandchildren, Margaret, Elizabeth, Kate, John and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, James and Sarah.

Jeanne Pratt Entwistle

Jeanne Pratt Entwistle of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at AGH with her family by her side. She was 76.

Mrs. Entwistle was a coordinator for Employee Assistance programs.

Born in Oneida, N.Y., she moved from New York to Gainesville five years ago.

She was a college graduate and a member of Unity Church of Gainesville. She attended AA meetings for more than 34 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Naomi Conlon of Gainesville, Jeannette Williams of Remsen, N.Y., and Claire Entwistle and husband Edward of Utica, N.Y.; a son, David Weller of Utica; a sister, Eileen Hubal of West Caldwell, N.J.; five grandchildren; and a great- grandson.

Leroy E. Gould

Leroy E. Gould of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was 79.

Mr. Gould was a retired hair stylist.

Born in Gainesville, he moved from New York City back to Gainesville three years ago.

He was a member of the Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Gould of Gainesville; a son, Anthony Gould of Gainesville; a stepson, Lavone McKoy of Fayetteville, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Sheila Quick of Fayetteville, Kadijah Mahdi and husband Ahmad of St. Louis, Mo., and Avis Williams and husband Gerald of New York City; a brother, Morris Gould and wife Juanita of Gainesville; a sister, Ruth Pratt of New York City; and five grandchildren.

Allyssa Hailey Nicole Gunter

Allyssa Hailey Nicole Gunter of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at AGH. She was 1 month old.

Allyssa was born in Gainesville.

Survivors include her mother, Lynn Renee Findley of Gainesville; her father, Steven Wayne Gunter of Gainesville; three brothers, Jarrett Findley, Steven Gunter Jr. and Colton Gunter, all of Gainesville; her paternal grandparents, Norma and Donald Gunter of Gainesville; her paternal great-grandmother, Rosaline Gunter of Gainesville; an uncle, James Findley of Gainesville; and many other uncles, aunts and cousins.

Lois Frances Leverett

CROSS CITY - Lois Frances Leverett of Cross City died Friday in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 62.

Mrs. Leverett was a former bus driver for Dixie County schools, and she also drove a bus for handicapped students.

She was a lifelong resident of Cross City. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and was a director of the United Christian Service.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen A. Kearney of Miami and William A. Kane Jr. of Cross City; two daughters, Lois T. Foster of Old Town and Barbara C. Foster of West Palm Beach; three brothers, Alan Pendarvis and Billy Pendarvis, both of Old Town, and E.J. Pendarvis of West Germany; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Maher

Dorothy Maher of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Maher was an office manager for Food Services at the University of Florida.

Born in Detroit, she moved to Gainesville 36 years ago.

She was a former president of Altrusa.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Richard Maher of Gainesville; and a daughter, Janice Maher Ericksen of Apex, N.C.
