Kevin Crossett Carter
NEWBERRY -- Kevin Crossett Carter died Saturday at his residence. He was 38.
Mr. Carter was born in Philadelphia and moved to Newberry from Miami in 1982.
He was a project engineer with Regeneration Technologies and a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Sylena Carter of Gainesville; a son, Alexander William Carter of Gainesville; a daughter, Chelsea Christine Carter of Gainesville; his parents, William A. and Jean C. Carter of St. Augustine; brothers Jeff Carter of Fairport, N.Y., Scott Carter of Coatesville, Pa., Michael Carter of Gainesville, Steven Carter of Oakwood, Ga., Craig Carter of Pensacola and Christopher Carter of Downingtown, Pa.; a sister, Laurie Smith of Naples; and his grandmother, Martha Crossett of Sarasota.

Champion Haile
Champion Haile of Daytona Beach died Aug. 24 in Ormond Beach. She was 72.
The Gainesville native was a retired mason and a member of Church of God in Christ.
Local survivors include a brother, Moses Haile of Gainesville; and sisters Earnestine Butler and Sophia Graham, both of Gainesville.

Richard Paul Manus
Richard Paul Manus died Monday at his residence in Gainesville. He was 51.
Mr. Manus was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Tucson, Ariz., and Titusville before moving to Gainesville in 1996.
He was a Catholic and he owned and operated a restaurant. He was a member of the chamber of commerce and the Rotary Club of Titusville. He graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Palmer Manus.
Survivors include sons Richard P. and Chris Manus, both of Gainesville; his parents, Herman and Cathy Manus of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Diane Bianculli of Mattituck, N.Y.; and brothers John Manus of Glendale, Calif., and Mike Manus of Lynbrook, N.Y.

Ladora Pearce Dicks Nettles
LAKE CITY -- Ladora Pearce Dicks Nettles died Tuesday following an extended illness. She was 89.
The Union County native was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Eddie L. "Ned" Dicks and William Henry Nettles.
Survivors include daughters Emma Hancock of Alachua, Ethel Boyette, Henrietta Kirkland and Libby Green, all of Lake City, and May Edwards of Fernandina Beach; sons Rodney Nettles of Baraga, Mich., and John J. Nettles IV of Lake City; stepdaughters Ruth Moody of Quitman, Ga., and Katie Biggs of Williamsburg, Va.; a stepson, James Nettles of Havana; sisters Dolly Mae Harris of Macclenny and Edith Hurst of Lake City; a brother, N.E. Pearce of High Springs; 13 grandchildren; 47 step-grandchildren; 55 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

Frank Lewis Parrish
BELL -- Frank Lewis Parrish, a lifelong resident of Bell, died Wednesday at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 96.
Mr. Parrish was a farmer and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fronie Parrish.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Palmer of Bell; a son, Buddy Parrish of Bell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Barbara Lou Sims
TRENTON -- Barbara Lou "Auntie Bob" Sims died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a lingering illness. She was 64.
Mrs. Sims was born in Trenton and lived in Orlando before returning to Trenton in the 1950s.
She was a retired cook at Trenton High School and a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as church secretary and choir member.
Survivors include her mother, Willie Mae Sims of Trenton; daughters Emma Walker of Gainesville, and Bernadette Brown, Karen McGee and Carmel McGee, all of Gainesville; sons David and Jeffrey Thomas, both of Trenton, and Maurice McGee of Gainesville; sisters Louella Taylor of Cross City, Mary Kearney, Geraldine Sims and Laverne Jones, all of Trenton, and Anne Brown of St. Petersburg; brothers Ralph, Lonnie and Timothy Davis, all of Trenton, Harry Sims of Gainesville, Joe Sims of Miami and Herbert Davis of St. Petersburg; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

CHIEFLAND -- Jack Spann died Thursday in Chiefland. He was 72.
Mr. Spann was born in Hartford, Ala., and moved to Chiefland from St. Petersburg 26 years ago.
He was the retired owner of Spann's Heating and Air.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Spann of Chiefland; daughters Debbie Hamberger of Chiefland and Ruth Lewark of Largo; a son, Jack Spann Jr. of Trenton; sisters Martha Spann of Chiefland and Peggy Brackin of Dothan, Ala.; a brother, Billy Joe Spann of Dalevale, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

Betty Buxton Townsend
HAWTHORNE -- Betty Buxton Townsend died Tuesday in Gainesville. She was 62.
Mrs. Townsend was born in Panama City and moved to Hawthorne from Gainesville in 1994.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Elbert G. Townsend of Hawthorne; daughters Donna Ramirez of Melrose, Patricia Rendon of Coleman, Ala., and Marilyn Sauceda of Hawthorne; a son, Donald Hass of Micanopy; a sister, Marilyn Buxton of Gainesville; a brother, Robert Buxton of Fairbanks; and eight grandchildren.

MELROSE - Julia Lucille Crews of Melrose died Thursday at Windsor Manor in Starke after a long illness. She was 68.
Mrs. Crews moved to Melrose from Jacksonville in 1995 and was a member of Eliam Baptist Church.
She was a clerk for a laundry and dry cleaning service.
Survivors include five daughters, Rose Opdyke of Sharon Springs, N.Y., Patricia Harvey of Glen Gardner, N.J., Jeanne Silliman of Milford, N.J., Lisa Hendershot of Jacksonville and Donna Huff of Melrose; and four sisters, Mary Morris of Jacksonville, Dorothy Richards of Keystone Heights, Virginia Griffin of Bryceville and Nan Gullitte of Buckeye Lake, Ohio.
Richard Lee Parker Jr.
Richard Lee Parker Jr., M.D., of Gainesville died Friday at Shands Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 68.
Dr. Parker was a radiologist who served at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Wilmington, N.C., and moved to Gainesville in 1975.
Dr. Parker received a degree in electrical engineering, a doctorate in medicine and a doctorate in law from the University of Florida. He served in the 7th Division, U.S. Army, in Korea.
He was a member of the Medical Alumni Board at the UF College of Medicine, the UF President's Council, the Rotary Club, the Florida Bar Association, the FMA and the Quarterback Club.
A member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Dr. Parker was in practice in neurology in Orlando and Winter Park for seven years.
He was a Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Parker; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Parker; and a son, Richard Lee Parker III, all of Gainesville.
Nicole La Donna Brown-Evans
REDDICK -- Nicole La Donna Brown-Evans of Reddick died Saturday in St. Marys, Ga. She was 29.
Mrs. Brown-Evans was born in Gainesville and lived in Micanopy briefly before moving to Reddick more than 20 years ago.
She was an adult day training instructor and a graduate of North Marion High School.
She was a Methodist.
Survivors include two daughters, Jasmine Brown and Jada Evans, both of Reddick; a son, Casey James of Reddick; and her parents, Chester Brown Jr. and Mildred Payton-Brown of Reddick.
Jimmie L. Crapp Sr.
HAWTHORNE -- Jimmie L. Crapp Sr. of Hawthorne died Friday at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. He was 85.
A native of Cordele, Ga., he moved to Hawthorne 50 years ago.
Mr. Crapp was a retired Florida Septic laborer and a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Julia Mae Crapp of Hawthorne; eight daughters, Betty J. Mack, Diana Strickland, Gloria D. Morris and Harriet Ernestine Morris, all of Hawthorne, Elizabeth C. Adkins of Leesburg, Gladys Grimes of Lake City and Yvonne G. Manning and Iris Watson, both of Gainesville; six sons, Arthur W. Crapp of Gainesville, Jimmie L.
