Marvin Leo Rice Sr.
FORT WHITE -- Marvin Leo Rice Sr. of Fort White died Wednesday in Gainesville. He was 58.
Mr. Rice was born in Cumberland, Md., and moved to Fort White from Melbourne in April.
He was a retired fireman.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie R. Rice of Fort White; two sons, Marvin Leo Rice Jr. of Fort White and Dennis Marshall Rice of Melbourne; his mother, Leona Rice of Cumberland, Md.; and two grandchildren, Nicole Rice and Kristi Rice.??
Howard Richardson Jr.
Howard Richardson Jr. of Gainesville died Oct. 7 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 78.
Mr. Richardson was born in Aiken, S.C., and moved to Gainesville from Gulf Hammock in 1930.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Richardson Pettigrew of Los Angeles; three sons, Willie "Peter Jo" Richardson and Earl Richardson, both of Gainesville, and Kahlif "Carl" Richardson of Los Angeles; two stepdaughters, Rose Young of Daytona Beach and Beverly Gales of Los Angeles; a sister, Marie Young of Tampa; a brother, Johnnie Richardson of Gainesville; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Charles Edward Sevigny
Charles Edward Sevigny of Gainesville died unexpectedly Wednesday. He was 60.
A native of Lawrence, Mass., Mr. Sevigny moved to Gainesville from Pelham, N.H., 20 years ago.
He was a heavy-equipment mechanic at Voyles Appliances & Electronics.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He was a Cub Master of Cub Scout Troop 25 in Pelham.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Rhodes Sevigny of Gainesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kevin Souza of Manchester, N.H.; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Maureen Sevigny of Klamath Falls, Ore.; four sisters, Alice Mooshian of Salem, N.H., Jeanne Maggio of Londonderry, N.H., Ann Marie Miner of Haverhill, Mass., and Carol Anne McComish of Derry, N.H.; and a grandchild, Samantha Souza.
Harrison G. Stortz III
Harrison G. Stortz III of Baldwin, Ga., died Tuesday in Atlanta. He was 78.
Local survivors include two sons, Harrison Stortz III and Michael Stortz, both of Gainesville.
Ronald Boyle
Ronald Boyle died Saturday at his residence in Gainesville. He was 52.
Mr. Boyle was born in New York City and raised in Levittown, N.Y. He moved to Gainesville in 1988.
He was a co-founder and partner of Maximum Performance International. He earned a degree in special education from New Paltz College. He attended the Florida School of Massage, earning a license as a massage therapist.
He was an accomplished artist with showings in New York and Gainesville.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Boyle of Red Hook, N.Y.; a niece, Molly Boyle of Red Hook, N.Y.; and a nephew, Ian Boyle of Putman Valley, N.Y.
Michael Lamar Cromwell
ALACHUA -- Michael Lamar Cromwell of Alachua died March 16 in an automobile accident. He was 38.
Mr. Cromwell was born in Gainesville and moved to Alachua in 1974.
He was a construction foreman and he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Cromwell attended Buchholz High School.
Survivors include his fiancee, Gail Jackson of Starke; his parents Adam Cromwell and Norma Byers Cromwell of Alachua; six sisters, Sharon Pittman, Ann Long, Phyllis Hudson and Gloria Jean Matthews, all of Gainesville, Rosa Sturdivant of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gloria Richardson of Dell City; Okla.; and nine brothers, Harold Mitchell of Hampton, Adam W. Cromwell of Archer, Lawrence Cromwell of Memphis, Ronald Long of Corpus Christi, Texas, Charlie Cromwell of Hague, Daniel Gromwell and Samuel Cromwell, both of Gainesville, Chris Cromwell of LaCrosse and Jonathan Cromwell of Tampa.
Mary Lee Hambrick
CHIEFLAND -- Mary Lee Hambrick of Chiefland died Friday at Shands at AGH. She was 77.
Mrs. Hambrick was born in Apalachicola and moved to Chiefland from Old Town 25 years ago.
She was a retired housekeeper and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Wilson Henderson of Old Town.
Sallie M. Moses
Sallie M. Moses of Gainesville died March 15 at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. She was 95.
Mrs. Moses was born in Americus, Ga., and moved to Gainesville 70 years ago. She was a homemaker and she worked as a foster grandparent. She attended Newnan's Lake Church of God by Faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Graham of Williston; 12 grandchildren, two of whom she reared as her own, Leroy Ellis and Lakendra Ellis, both of Gainesville; and eight great-grandchildren.
Theresa Bertha Luker
Theresa Bertha Luker of Newberry died Tuesday at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. She was 70.
Mrs. Luker was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Newberry from Homestead in 1997.
She was a Protestant.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Lee Luker of Newberry; a daughter, Rosemarie Brauer of Miami; two sons, Bobby Lee Luker Jr. of Newberry and Danny Lee Luker of Burnsville, N.C.; five sisters, Betty Enos of St. Marys, Ga., and Frankie Ann Mattingly, Mildred Rehe, Sandi Rehe and Susan Rehe, all of Hollywood; a brother, Donald Rehe of Wilmington, N.J.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Margaret Pauline Pierce
WILLISTON -- Margaret Pauline Pierce died Tuesday at her residence in Williston. She was 77.
Mrs. Pierce was born in Norton, Va., and moved to Williston from Logan, W.Va., in 1966.
She was a Methodist and a retired filing clerk from First Union Bank in Gainesville.
Survivors include a sister, Ninnie Fields of Fredericksburg, Va.; two nieces, Patricia Ann Starford of Fredericksburg, Va., and Margaret Ann Breeding of Williston; and two nephews, Ray Junior Breeding and Roger Lee Breeding, both of Williston.
Rheua Hogan Stakely
Rheua Hogan Stakely of Gainesville died Tuesday at the Hospice of North Central Florida. She was 85.
Mrs. Stakely was born in Gunnison, Colo., and lived in Macon, Ga., and Clemson, S.C., before moving to Gainesville 47 years ago.
She taught music throughout her life. She also coached the girls' and boys' tennis teams at Gainesville High School. The University of Florida Women's tennis team honored her with a scholarship in her name.
She received a master's degree in education from the University of Florida.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where she served as a choir member.
Survivors include a daughter, Rheua Susan Stakely of Boston; a son, Jim Stakely of Gainesville; a brother, A. William Hogan of Prescott, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Foundation or to the Hospice House of North Central Florida.
Alveta Watson Stanley
ARCHER -- Alveta Watson Stanley, a lifelong resident of Archer, died Tuesday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston. She was 88.
Mrs. Stanley was a retired seamstress and a charter member of the Archer Church of the Nazarene. She was also a retired foster parent for the Alachua County School Board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Stanley.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Joan Newman of DeLand and Darlene Stanley of Lakeland; two sons, Fred Stanley of Nashville and Marvin Stanley of Lakeland; four sisters, Ethel Loper of Gainesville, Olphelia Dickey of Hiawassee, Ga., and Ollie Mae Berry and Rosalie Thomas, both of Archer; a brother, Willie Watson of Gainesville; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Lester Valentine
HORSESHOE BEACH -- Lester Valentine, a lifelong resident of Horseshoe Beach, died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
Mr. Valentine was a maintenance worker at the University of Florida and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a Baptist and charter member of the Rock Level Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Valentine of Horseshoe Beach; a daughter, Evonne Cline of Horseshoe Beach; two sons, Steve Valentine and "Smokey" Valentine, both of Horseshoe Beach; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
