Alma Lockler Talley
HORSESHOE BEACH -- Alma Lockler Talley of Horseshoe Beach died Saturday after a lengthy illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Talley was a lifelong resident of Horseshoe Beach. She retired as postmaster in 1970 after 30 years of service and was a member of the Cross City Church of God.
Survivors include one daughter, Daphine Spivey of Horseshoe Beach; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Joseph Alois Vojtik
Joseph Alois Vojtik of Gainesville died Saturday in Lake City. He was 79.
Mr. Vojtik was born in Ottawa, Ill., and moved to Gainesville in 1945. He was a retired plumbing supervisor at the University of Florida, where he worked for 30 years, and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and was married
for 55 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Dorothy Philpott Vojtik of Gainesville; one daughter, Janet Victoria Beville of Alachua; and one sister, Christine Moorhouse of California.
Athanas V. Weltscheff
WILDWOOD -- Athanas V. "Budd" Weltscheff of Wildwood died Friday. He was 83.
Mr. Weltscheff was born in Stamford, Conn., and moved to Wildwood from Gainesville in 1998. He was a retired businessman and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include four daughters, Christine Weltscheff of Vancouver, Canada, Michelle Sheppard of New Canaan, Conn., Catherine Knisley of Gainesville and Claudine Crawford of Sarasota; one sister, Vivian West of Lake Worth; and six grandchildren.
Bernice Mae Bayless
PERRY -- Bernice Mae Bayless of Perry died Sunday at Sunbelt Health Care in Orlando. She was 86.
Mrs. Bayless was born in Grandin and moved to Perry from Palatka in 1953.
She was a retired business manager, a bookkeeper, a homemaker and a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bayless was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gerald Bayless.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Bayless of Orlando.
Denard Davis DeBruhl
FANNING SPRINGS -- Denard Davis DeBruhl of Fanning Springs died Tuesday in Keystone Heights. He was 41.
Mr. DeBruhl was born in Fort Lauderdale and moved to Fanning Springs from Newberry five years ago.
He was a construction foreman.
Survivors include his wife, Marina DeBruhl of Trenton; his mother, Dottie DeBruhl and her longtime partner, Madine Rawe, both of Keystone Heights; a sister, Renee Lightner of Fort Lauderdale; and three brothers, Joseph DeBruhl of Davie, James H. Rawe Jr. of Newberry and Mark Rawe of Fort Meyers.
Ava Prevatte Hirni
Ava "Grey" Prevatte Hirni of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at UF. She was 79.
Mrs. Hirni was born in Robeson County, N.C., and moved to Gainesville from Pensacola in 1966.
She was a retired clerk supervisor at the Reitz Union and a member of the First Baptist Church. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Fred Hirni of Gainesville; a daughter, Ava Gene Watson of Highland, N.C.; a son, James T. Hirni of Hollis, N.H.; two sisters, Lucille Peterson of St. Petersburg and Melrose Bowden of Douglasville, Ga.; three brothers, James O. Prevatte of Arizona, Jack Prevatte of Rocky Mountain, N.C., and Norman E. Prevatte of Agoura, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Aurelia Chupp Lowe
STEINHATCHEE -- Aurelia Chupp Lowe of Steinhatchee died Monday at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Perry. She was 88.
Mrs. Lowe was born in Atlanta and moved to Steinhatchee 13 years ago. She owned and operated several antique and interior design businesses.
She was a member of Mary Brannon Methodist Church in Atlanta.
Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene Lowe.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Lowe Tumlin of Steinhatchee; a sister, Harriet Harrison of Michigan; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great- great-grandchildren.
Hugo Max Nieman
NEWBERRY -- Hugo Max Nieman of Newberry died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
Mr. Nieman was born in Wayne County, Mich., and moved to Newberry in 1973.
He was a machine operator and a Lutheran. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florence M. Nieman of Newberry; three sons, Randolph Nieman and Ted Nieman, both of Newberry, and Thomas Nieman of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Dr. James William Patray Jr.
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Dr. James William Patray Jr. of Keystone Heights died Sunday at Shands at AGH. He was 74.
Dr. Patray was born in Norton, Va., and moved to Keystone Heights from Starke.
Upon graduation from Bradford High School in 1943, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps Cadet program.
Following the war, he completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Florida and later taught in the Bradford County school system. He returned to UF and was a member of the first graduating class of the College of Medicine in 1960. He was trained in pediatrics at Shands Hospital. He practiced medicine in Starke and Keystone Heights.
He was a member of the Community Church of Keystone Heights.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Patray of Keystone Heights; two daughters, Briar Parmer of Keystone Heights and Dr. Elizabeth Curci of Tallahassee; a son, James William Patray III of Gainesville; a sister, Joanne Gassett of Melrose; two brothers, R.T. "Ron" Patray of Nashville, Tenn., and Arthur B. Patray of Lakeland; and three grandchildren.

Mary E. Sheplak
VENICE -- Mary E. Sheplak of Venice died July 16 at Lakeside Nursing Center in Sarasota. She was 90.
A native and longtime resident of Booton, N.J., Mrs. Sheplak lived in Fort Myers and Keystone Heights before moving to Venice in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Joseph Sheplak Sr.; and a son, Joseph Sheplak Jr.
Survivors included two sons, Alan Sheplak of Venice and Rick Sheplak of Keystone Heights; a daughter Audrey Greffe of Denville, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Fred F. Doughty
ARCHER -- Fred F. Doughty of Archer died Monday in Gainesville. He was 77.
Born in Atlantic City, N.J., Mr. Doughty moved to Archer from Fort Pierce nine years ago.
He was the operator and owner of a pet store.
He attended the First United Methodist Church of Archer.
Mr. Doughty is survived by his wife, Margaret Doughty of Archer; a daughter, Donna Doughty of Fort Pierce; two stepdaughters, Susan Williams of Archer and Diane Dueber of Norristown, Pa.; three sons, Fred Doughty of Helmetta, N.J., Gary Doughty of Spotswood, N.J., and Norman Doughty of Ponder, Texas; four stepsons, Ronald Williams of Tamaqua, Pa., Richard Williams of Andreas, Pa., Leo Williams of South Carolina and Peter Williams of Archer; 18 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
Marjorie Alice Ochs
Marjorie Alice Ochs died Monday at Shands at AGH of natural causes. She was 83.
Born in Worcester, N.Y., Mrs. Ochs moved here from Oshkosh, Wis., 15 years ago.
She was a telephone operator with AT&T; in New York.
She attended Moravian Church in Watertown, Wis.
Mrs. Ochs is survived by her husband, Dr. George M. Ochs of Gainesville; two sisters, Wilma Cross and Betty Rossier, both of Oneonta, N.Y.

Janet Steele French
Janet Steele French died in her home in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday.
Originally from Gainesville, Mrs. French lived for a time in Lake Umatilla in Lake County and moved back to Gainesville in 1995.
She moved to San Antonio in February.
Mrs. French was active in the Umatilla and Lake County garden clubs. She also volunteered at Umatilla High School and the Umatilla Public Library. In 1991, she was honored at the Umatilla Fall Festival as the Lake County Volunteer of the Year.
She was a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Florida. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, A. Lee French Jr.
She is survived by three sons, James H. Kizziar Jr. of San Antonio, A. Lee French III of New Fairfield, Conn., and Thomas Allen French of New Orleans; and a daughter, Renee French of San Antonio.
