Joseph F. McLaughlin
Joseph F. McLaughlin of Ocala died April 18 at North Florida Rehabilitation and Special Care. He was 82.
Mr. McLaughlin was born in Boston and moved to Ocala from Brookline, Mass., in 1957.
He was a department store manager. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edith McLaughlin of Ocala; three daughters, Nancy Feichtner of Clearwater, Jane McFarland of Gainesville and Leslie McLaughlin of Crawfordville; three sons, Kevin McLaughlin and Mack McLaughlin, both of Gainesville, and Shane McLaughlin of Crawfordville; and seven grandchildren.
Brandon Lee Parenteau
SHILOH -- Brandon Lee Parenteau of Shiloh died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida following an auto accident near Flemington. He was 5.
Brandon was born in Ocala and lived all his life in Shiloh. He attended Fassenden Elementary School and Holy Family Catholic Church. Brandon enjoyed playing roller hockey, was an artist, was always happy and loved going to church.
Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Carol Parenteau of Shiloh; a brother, Richard Parenteau of Shiloh; a sister, Victoria Parenteau of Shiloh; paternal grandparents, Richard and Terry Parenteau of Shiloh; maternal grandmother Rose Johnson of Ocala; paternal great-grandmother Marjorie Cummings of Attleboro, Mass; and paternal great-grandmother Jeanne Parenteau of Cedar Key.
Robert Phillips
CALLAHAN -- Robert Phillips of Callahan died Sunday at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was 70.
Mr. Callahan was born in Geneva County, Ala., and moved to Callahan from Winter Haven two years ago.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of First Missionary Bell Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lou Phillips of Callahan; three daughters, Charlotte Stokes of Callahan, Kathy Langston of Bell and Evone Manning of Macclenny; a son, Johnny Robert Phillips of Winter Haven; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
David E. Cook Sr.
SELKIRK, N.Y. -- David E. Cook Sr. of Selkirk, N.Y., died May 8 of cancer.
Born in Binghamton, N.Y., he lived most of his life in Selkirk.
Mr. Cook was a retired school bus driver.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Reed Cook of Selkirk; two daughters, Cheryl Rooney of Slingerlands, N.Y., and Marilyn Bushie of Hartford, Wis.; his son, David E. Cook Jr. of Berne, N.Y.; two brothers, George Cook of Gallupville, N.Y., and Howard Cook of Williston; his sister, Linda Polverelli of New Baltimore, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
George Christopher Davis
STEINHATCHEE -- George Christopher Davis of Steinhatchee died Monday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 80.
Born in West Palm Beach, Mr. Davis moved here from Boynton Beach two years ago.
He was an architect
Mr. Davis attended Cross City United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Davis of Steinhatchee; two sons, George Christopher Davis III of Tallahassee and Gary Long Davis of Fort White; two daughters, Gretchen Smith of Tampa and Betsy Ann Davis of Steinhatchee; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
John A. Harrison
John A. Harrison, former chairman of the department of history at the University of Florida, died Thursday at his home in Gainesville following a sudden illness. He was 84.
Mr. Harrison was born in Johnston, N.Y., and lived in Miami before moving to Gainesville in 1981.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Japanese interpreter and translator.
He was a past editor of the Journal of Asian Studies and an author of numerous books. He was a retired professor, having taught at the University of California, Harvard University and the University of Florida, where he was chairman of the department of history from 1961-1965. He also taught at the University of Miami and was the dean of the graduate school.
He received a doctorate from the University of California.
He was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Clarice Trouth Harrison. He has no other immediate survivors.

Lois Edwina Hewitt
MAYO -- Lois Edwina Hewitt of Mayo died May 20 at her home. She was 67.
Mrs. Hewitt was born in Sanford and in 1976 moved from Cocoa Beach to Mayo. She owned and operated Edwina's Til-2-Til General Country Store and raised chickens and cattle on her farm. She was active in the Guardian Angel program that helps young children. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Mayo.
Mrs. Hewitt is survived by three sons, Richard Hewitt of Peachtree City, Ga., Frank Hewitt of Wildwood and Christopher Kelm of Mayo; a daughter, Shirley Gonzalez of Jacksonville; four brothers, Elwin Ray and Joseph Lloyd Ray, both of Jacksonville, Ronald Ray of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Billy Ray of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Sandra Sweat of Fort Polk, La., and Pauline Ray of Middleburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Martha Jackson Hillman
JACKSONVILLE -- Martha Jackson Hillman of Jacksonville died Sunday in Jacksonville after a long illness. She was 65.
Mrs. Hillman was a retired teacher. She received her bachelor's of science and master's degrees at Florida A&M; University.
Born in Gainesville, she moved away from Gainesville about 50 years ago and moved from Miami to Jacksonville 37 years ago.
Mrs. Hillman was a member of the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church in Jacksonville and the Alpha Gamma chapter of the Phi Delta Kappa sorority.
Survivors include a daughter, LaTonya Burpocof Flushing, N.Y.; her father, George Jackson of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.
Lonnie Willis Jacobs
TALLAHASSEE -- Lonnie Willis Jacobs died at his home Sunday in Tallahassee of natural causes. He was 69.
Born in Perry, Mr. Jacobs lived in Tallahassee for more than 30 years. He was a welder most of his life.
He is survived by four sons, Ernest Brown of Fort White, Jimmy Beaty of Perry, Lonnie Jacobs III of Tallahassee and Carlos McWalters of Gainesville; two daughters, Marilyn Padgett of Perry and Marilyn Jacobs of Jacksonville; four brothers, Wayne, Julius, James and Percy Jacobs; four sisters, Juanita McWatters Elease Bodford, Edith Watt and Laveter Johnson; and 11 grandchildren.
Christopher Andrew Lehmen
ALACHUA -- Christopher Andrew Lehmen of Alachua died Saturday at Hospice House. He was 45.
Born in North Miami, Mr. Lehmen moved to Alachua in 1987. For the last 6-1/2 years, he worked as Operations Manager for the Gainesville branch of Jacksonville Sound and Communications. Before that, he worked for Crime Prevention Systems. Earlier he had been the maintenance supervisor for the Gainesville Housing Authority and had worked at Archer Electric.
He was a "Band Dad" at Mebane Middle School and at Santa Fe High School, where he was an active member of the Raider Regiment Band Booster Organization.
Mr. Lehmen is survived by his wife, Judy Lehmen of Alachua; two daughters, Mandy Lehmen and Nikki Lehmen, both of Alachua; three sisters, Elaine Cale of Mountainburg, Ark., Sandi Fogleman of Largo and Andrea Valin of Pinehurst, Mass.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations in Mr. Lehmen's name to Hospice of North Central Florida.
Betty Lysek
OLD TOWN -- Betty Lysek of Old Town died Friday following a heart attack. She was 72.
Mrs. Lysek was born in Tunnelton, Ind., and lived in Indianapolis, Ind., before moving to Old Town 15 years ago. She was the manager of a bookstore.
She was a Methodist.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbra Lysek of Old Town and Evelyn Osgood of Indianapolis; a son, John Lysek of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two grandchildren.
Robert Lee Mann Jr.
LAKE BUTLER -- Robert Lee "R.L." Mann Jr. of Lake Butler died Monday at Lake Butler Hospital following an apparent heart attack. He was 82.
Mr. Mann was born and lived his entire life in Union County.
He was a retired custodian, having worked at the Union County schools and the Union County Courthouse. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Parrish-Mann of Lake Butler; six sons, Bobbie Mann, Louis Mann, Sammie Mann, Franklin Mann, Johnnie Mann and Terry Mann, all of Lake Butler; five daughters, Virginia Jones of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Pat Holly of Weirsdale, and Carol Roberts, Tina Mann and Christina Mann, all of Lake Butler; a brother, James Mann of Palatka; and 36 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
