SARASOTA -- Leroy Williams died Nov. 26 at his residence in Sarasota following a brief illness. He was 62.
Mr. Williams was born in Jennings and later moved to Sarasota from Fairbanks. He attended Alachua County Public Schools.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Hughes Williams of Sarasota; four daughters, Cynthia Williams of Sarasota, Cynthia Lewis of Plant City, and Sheila Williams and Sandra Williams, both of Gainesville; five sons, Mykle Williams and Leroy Williams Jr., both of Sarasota, Timothy Williams and Timothy Curry Williams, both of Gainesville, and Thyron Williams of St. Petersburg; a stepson, Michael Gilley of Sarasota; his mother, Irene Williams of Gainesville; seven sisters, Emma Fuller, Naomi Connor, Luella Richardson, Eva Williams, Mary Lattimore, Martha Price and Bertha Wiley, all of Gainesville; five brothers, Cornelius Williams and James Williams, both of Detroit, and Joe Williams, Amos Williams, Clarence Williams, all of Gainesville; and 24 grandchildren.
Mattie B. Brannon
Mattie B. Brannon of Gainesville died Nov. 26 at Hospice of North Central Florida following a lengthy illness. She was 56.
Mrs. Brannon was born in Bronson and moved to Gainesville from Archer 37 years ago.
She was a material handler for Medline.
She was a member of Compassionate Outreach Ministry.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Haggins of Archer; nine sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Tampa, Sara Brannon of Archer, Mary Lee of Jonesville, Beverley Taliaferro and Patty Morgan, both of Omaha, Neb., Jacqueline Holliman of Lakeland, Althea Pontoon of Hawthorne, Sharon McCallister of Gainesville and Lendy King of Williston; two brothers, Charles Pillman of Gainesville and Kervin Keaton of Omaha; and one grandchild.
William Henry Douglas
JACKSONVILLE -- William Henry Douglas died Tuesday at his Jacksonville residence. He was 72.
Mr. Douglas was born in Gainesville and moved to Jacksonville from High Springs in 1968.
He was a retired road foreman of engines for CSX Transportation.
After graduating from P.K. Yonge Laboratory School, he attended the University of Florida.
He was a member of the Morocco Temple of the Shrine, the Shriners Woodstock Lodge No. 313 F&AM;, and the North Florida DX Association.
He was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Douglas of Jacksonville; and three sons, Bill H. Douglas of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Bob Douglas of Middleburg and Chuck Douglas of Callahan.
Lillie Harris
WILLISTON -- Lillie Harris of Williston died Sunday at Oakview Nursing Center in Williston. She was 77.
Mrs. Harris was born in Bowling Green and moved to Williston from Tampa six months ago.
She was retired from Private Home Care Services.
She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa and the American Legion Post No. 0111.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Harris of Williston; a daughter, Oneida Williams and her husband, Tucker Williams, of Williston; three sisters, Rosa Davis and Deloris Thomas, both of Orlando, and Sennie Johnson of Winter Garden; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Lucile Boring Stringfellow
Lucile "Nana" Boring Stringfellow, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday at Sunbridge Nursing Center in Gainesville. She was 95.
Mrs. Stringfellow was the former owner of Lucile's Juvenile Inc. on N. Main Street. She served as a real estate manager for Stringfellow Brothers' Trust and Estate until the age of 92. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Ann Stringfellow Hanes and Lucile Stringfellow Peacock.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Sonja Zebedee and Martha Lucile Peacock, both of Gainesville, and Carol Haraway of Colorado; a grandson, Thomas S. Peacock of Colorado; and a great-grandson, Alex Zebedee of Gainesville.
Jill R. Thornton
LAKE BUTLER -- Jill R. Thornton died Tuesday at her residence in Lake Butler. She was 47.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Lake Worth and moved to Lake Butler from Gainesville five years ago.
She was a retired administrator with the department of neurology in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida. She was educated through the Union County school system. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Thornton of Lake Butler; a son, Mathew Roberts of Gainesville; a sister, Faith Schullstrom of Illinois; and five brothers, Jonathan Zmistowski of Denver, Jerry Zmistowski of Covington, Ga., and Jack Zmistowski, Jeff Zmistowski and Joel Zmistowski, all of West Palm Beach. Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the St. Francis House.
Willie Jones
OLD TOWN -- Willie Jones, a lifelong resident of Old Town, died Tuesday at Shands at the University of Florida following a lengthy illness. He was 67 and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include an aunt, Frances Monroe of Old Town; and an uncle, Tommie Lee Carter Sr. of Old Town.
LeAnne Dawn Tomlinson
HAWTHORNE -- LeAnne Dawn Tomlinson, the 5-month-old daughter of Steven Carl Tomlinson and Melissa Huff of Hawthorne, died Wednesday at Shands at AGH.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Brandy Marie Pitts of Hawthorne; a brother, Steven Austin Tomlinson of Hawthorne; her maternal grandparents, Bonnie and Raymond Truluck of Hawthorne; and her paternal grandparents, David and Linda Tomlinson of Hawthorne.
Gerald J. D'Agostino
Gerald J. D'Agostino of Gainesville died at his home Friday after an extended illness. He was 74.
Mr. D'Agostino was born in Brooklyn and came to Gainesville from Queen Village, N.Y., in 1979. He worked for the Standard Oil Company.
Mr. D'Agostino served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie D'Agostino; three daughters, Lynne Rice, Malverne, N.Y., Ann Marie Giordano, Dix Hills, N.Y., and Maryjane D'Agostino, Franklin Square, N.Y.; two sons Gerard D'Agostino of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Robert D'Agostino of Gainesville; and nine grandchildren.
Ella H. Middleton
HAWTHORNE - Ella H. Middleton of Hawthorne died Friday at Palm Garden in Gainesville. She was 94.
Mrs. Middleton was born in Hawthorne. She was a 1928 graduate of Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University). She taught elementary school in Hawthorne for 16 years and in Gainesville for 11 years.
Mrs. Middleton had been a member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Hawthorne Woman's Club for more than 50 years. She attended First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bell of Gainesville; a son, Thomas Middleton of Hawthorne; her sister-in-law, Merle Middleton of Gainesville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the Hawthorne Woman's Club building fund.
Theodore Raymond "Ted" Scarborough
Theodore Raymond "Ted" Scarborough died Thursday in Gainesville. He was 78.
Mr. Scarborough was born in Washington, D.C., and came to Gainesville from Berkeley, Calif., in 1964. He was a retired salesman of building materials.
Mr. Scarborough served with the Army Air Corps as an aerial photographer in World War II. He was the former quartermaster and service officer for VFW Post 2811 in Gainesville. He was a life member of the national VFW order of Cooties and national VFW resident home.
He is survived by his nephew, Bruce Phillips of Atlanta.
William Dewey Diggs
STARKE -- William Dewey Diggs of Starke died Friday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. He was 77.
Mr. Diggs was born in Starke and lived in Miami before returning to Starke in the mid-1960s.
He was a retired gas company employee and a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Starke.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sisters, Henrietta Chandler of Miami and Alice Z. Hamilton of Lawtey.
Edward Gerard Giery Jr.
Edward Gerard "Duffy" Giery Jr. of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. He was 73.
Mr. Giery was born in Flushing, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Glendale, Wis., a month ago.
He was an engineer and a Catholic. He was an alumnus of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Giery of Gainesville; five daughters, Patricia Giery Spillman of Middleton, Wis., Mary Giery-Smith of Stamford, Conn., Elizabeth Schuppie of Reston, Va., Kathleen Giery of Gainesville and Margaret Giery of Tampa; three sons, Edward Giery III of Gainesville, John Giery of Lakeside, Calif., and Richard Giery of St. Simons Island, Ga.; a brother, Richard Giery of Bayshore, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren.
