Nancy L. Groome

SARASOTA - Nancy L. Groome of Sarasota died at her home Thursday. She was 62.

Mrs. Groome was born in San Francisco and moved to Sarasota from Gainesville three months ago.

She was a bookkeeper and a Unitarian Universalist.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Groome of Sarasota; a son, Kirk Groome of Sarasota; a sister, Elizabeth Guillette of Gainesville; a brother, James Arnold of Saratoga, Calif.; and a grandchild.

Miguel A. Hernandez

ORLANDO - Miguel A. Hernandez of Orlando died Thursday in Orlando. He was 72.

A native of Puerto Rico, Mr. Hernandez moved to Orlando 17 years ago.

He was an accountant, a veteran of the Korean War and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Margarita Silva Hernandez of Orlando; two daughters, Madelaine Lasa of Gainesville and Ivonne Machin of Orlando; a son, Darwin Hernandez of Puerto Rico; and five grandchildren.

Lula Pearl Tyhurst Mann

ROBINSON, ILL. - Lula Pearl Tyhurst Mann of Robinson, Ill., died Thursday at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, Ill., following several months of failing health. She was 100.

Mrs. Mann was a pastry cook and a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary M. Butler of Robinson, Ill.; three sons, Forrest Wheeler of Gainesville, William Wheeler of Archer and Richard Wheeler of Chapel Hill, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great- great-grandchild.

Nelson Eddie Richburg

CEDAR KEY - Nelson Eddie Richburg, a lifelong resident of Cedar Key, died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 33.

Mr. Richburg was a fisherman and a Baptist.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Cedar Key.

Survivors include his parents, Gary and Kay Richburg of Cedar Key; his grandparents, Eddie and Myrtle Richburg of Cedar Key; a brother, Grant Aaron Richburg; and a sister, Linda Kay Richburg of Cedar Key.

Tony Small

Tony Small of Gainesville died at his home Thursday. He was 62.

Mr. Small was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Key Biscayne in 1990. He was a retired yacht and ship broker, and an Episcopalian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Small and Zara Moxham Small.

Survivors include his companion, Lainee Brown of Gainesville; two sons, Donavan Brown and Erin Brown; a brother, Jeffrey Phillips Small of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Eileen Hodges Small of Atlanta; a niece, Chanley Moxham Small of Atlanta; and a nephew, Jeffrey Phillips Small Jr. of Atlanta.

Elizabeth L. Corrie

INTERLACHEN -- Elizabeth L. Corrie of Interlachen died Thursday at Shands at AGH. She was 72.

Mrs. Corrie was born in Dunedin and moved to Interlachen from Tampa 16 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Louise Townsend.

Survivors include her husband, Enoch S. Corrie of Interlachen; three daughters, Sylvia E. Lambert of Waldo, Sandria Cassels of Lochloosa and Mary White of Hawthorne; a son, the Rev. Russell McDaniel of Lake City; a brother, Bobby England of Palatka; 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Ida Mae Ward Fortner

LAKE BUTLER -- Ida Mae Ward Fortner of Lake Butler died Thursday at Ayers Health Care Center in Trenton following an extended illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Fortner was born in Lafayette County and lived in Cross City before moving to Lake Butler in 1944.

She was a bookkeeper with the Levy County school system. She was twice president of the Lake Butler Women's Club and twice worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 40 in Lake Butler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Butler.

Mrs. Fortner was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Fortner; and a grandson, Michael S. Fortner.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Seay of Trenton and Barbara Murphy of Alachua; two sons, Sidney Fortner and Thomas Fortner, both of Lake Butler; a sister, Tommie Land Chancellor of Cross City; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Maxine Violet Johnson Nero

Maxine Violet Johnson Nero of Jacksonville died July 14 in Jacksonville following a lingering illness. She was 48.

A native of Gainesville, Mrs. Nero moved to Jacksonville in 1968.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Elijah Nero Sr. of Jacksonville; a daughter, Dematria L. Nero of Jacksonville; a son, Elijah Nero Jr. of Jacksonville; three half-brothers, Trent Johnson and Irving Johnson III, both of Tampa, and Levy Johnson of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.

Renzo Barber

O'BRIEN - Renzo Barber of O'Brien died Monday at his home. He was 89.

Mr. Barber owned and operated Barber's Tire and Service Station in O'Brien.

He was a lifelong resident of Suwannee County.

Mr. Barber was a member of O'Brien Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include a daughter, Myrna L. McCall of Perry; and three grandchildren.

Warren Carnright Sr.

OLD TOWN - Warren Carnright Sr. of Old Town died Sunday at his home. He was 72.

Mr. Carnright was a retired ironworker.

Born in Blossburg, Pa., he moved from Troy, Pa., to Old Town 13 years ago.

He was an elder for the Cross City congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Carnright of Old Town; two sons, Warren Carnright Jr. of Old Town and David Carnright of Mahoopany, Pa.; three daughters, Marilyn Sine and Anita Reeser, both of Old Town, and Fay Cochran of Athens, Ga.; a brother, Donald Carnright of Washington state; five sisters, Wilma Schucker of Dundee, N.Y., Hazel Brooks of Blossburg, Virginia Carnright and Joyce Phippin, both of Lancaster, Pa., and Connie Solomon of New Milford, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Joyce Cooper

Joyce Cooper of Durham, N.C., died Thursday in Durham. She was 91.

Miss Cooper retired as professor in the department of elementary education at the University of Florida.

Born in Raleigh, N.C., she moved from Gainesville to Durham eight months ago.

She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, received a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an ED.D degree from Teachers College at Columbia University.

Miss Cooper was a member of University United Methodist Church, Gainesville Soroptomist International Service Club, Childhood Education International and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces.

Gertie L. Harmon

LIVE OAK - Gertie L. Harmon of Live Oak died Tuesday at Columbia Lake City Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Harmon was a homemaker and a member of Hale Baptist Church in Michigan.

Born in Watauga Township, N.C., she moved from Michigan to Live Oak 10 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Harmon.

Survivors include a son, John Harmon of Live Oak; two sisters, Grace Trivett and Berlie Harmon, both of Beech Creek, N.C.; a brother, Martin Harmon of Live Oak; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.

Kathryn C. Mickalonis

Kathryn C. Mickalonis of Gainesville died Monday in Gainesville. She was 81.

Mrs. Mickalonis was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Morristown, Tenn.

Born in Mechanicville, N.Y., she moved from Morristown to Gainesville six years ago.

She enjoyed dancing.

Survivors include a daughter, Maura A. Moore of Gainesville; two sons, Francis S. Conroy of Gainesville and Martin P. Mickalonis of Bonaire, Ga.; a brother, Joseph Conroy of New York; a sister, Joan Fitzpatrick of Mechanicville; and four grandchildren.
