BROOKER -- Anthony "Bubba" Ross of Brooker died Sunday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 80.
Mr. Ross was a paint mixer at Suntec Paint Factory.
He was a lifelong resident of Brooker.
Mr. Ross was a member of Pallbearers Lodge No. 7 and of Greater Bell United Methodist Church, where he was an usher and a class leader.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Gainey Ross.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Milton and Judith Jacobs, both of Ocala, Elizabeth Hill of Brooker and Ernestine Ross of Gainesville; four sons, Frank Ross of Williston, Purvis Ross of Gainesville, Johnnie Ross of Brooker and Ernest Ross of Alachua; a brother, Johnnie Ross Sr. of Brooker; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Marie A. Tate
Marie A. Tate of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at AGH due to injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was 61.
Mrs. Tate was a licensed practical nurse.
She was born in Alachua and moved from Monterey, Calif., to Gainesville 15 years ago.
Mrs. Tate graduated from A.L. Mebane High School.
She was a deaconess at the Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, Community Service Committee and Food and Nutrition Committees.
Survivors include two sons, Louis S. DeCoursey of Gainesville and Moses R. Rollins of Phoenix; two daughters, Marilyn Marshall and Keran Maroney, both of Phoenix; her mother, Parthenia DeCoursey of Gainesville; 19 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
Martin Yanis
Martin Yanis of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 77.
Dr. Yanis was a retired clinical psychologist.
He was born in Philadelphia and moved from New Jersey to Gainesville 15 years ago.
Dr. Yanis received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Houston.
Survivors include two daughters, Libby Nesvold of Fort Lee, N.J., and Rosalind Yanishevsky of Somers, Mont.; and a son, Mark Yanis of Houston.
Glenda Cheryl Davis Barrs
LAKE CITY - Glenda Cheryl Davis Barrs died Friday at her residence in Lake City after an extended illness. She was 53.
She was a native of Jacksonville and graduated from Paxon High School in 1964.
Mrs. Barrs was employed by Occidental/PCS Phosphate for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Barrs of Lake City; two daughters, Renee Barrs of Tallahassee and Teresa Barrs of Lake City; her mother Geraldine "Gerry" Davis of Jacksonville; a brother, Ralph Wayne Davis of Jacksonville; and a grandchild.
Annie Rebecca Howard Brown
LAKE BUTLER - Annie Rebecca Howard Brown of Lake Butler died Thursday at Lake Butler Hospital after an extended illness. She was 92.
She was born in Dukes.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist and former president and treasurer of the Woman's Auxiliary. She was Grand Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter 40.
She served as a postmistress and an insurance agent. She worked in her father's mercantile business, while at the same time working with her husband in diversified farming operations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Carl L. Brown.
Survivors include a sister, Mamie Howard Daniels of Peoria, Ill.; and a brother, Glenn S. Howard of Lake Butler.
Robert T. Gass
Robert T. Gass of Gainesville died Thursday at Palm Garden of Gainesville. He was 88.
He was born in South Deerfield, Mass., and moved to Gainesville from Amherst, Mass., in 1995.
He was a co-owner of Amherst Craftsmen Paper Manufacturing in Northhampton, Mass.
Mr. Gass was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Gillern Gass; and a son, Robert Keating Gass.
He was survived by a daughter, Nanciann Elnicki of Gainesville; and two grandchildren.
Patricia M. Pardee
MELROSE - Patricia M. Pardee of Melrose died Wednesday at Homestead Alzheimer's Adult Congregate Living Facility in Theressa after an extended illness. She was 78.
She was born in Wales and moved to this country in 1943. She moved to the Keystone Heights/Melrose area in 1959 from New York.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Melrose.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Pardee of Melrose; two sons, Charles Pardee of Hawthorne and Marshall Pardee of Forest, Va.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Hospice of North Central Florida.
Catherine Link
ORLANDO -- Catherine Link of Orlando died Monday in Orlando. She was 56.
Mrs. Link was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive C.M.E. in Orlando.
Born in Gainesville, she moved to Orlando nine years ago.
Survivors include a son; her stepmother, Ida Chisholm of Gainesville; three brothers, including Rudolph Chisholm of Gainesville; three sisters, including Henry Mae Chisholm of Hawthorne; and four grandchildren.
Esther Louise Owens
TRENTON -- Esther Louise Owens of Trenton died Thursday in Chiefland. She was 80.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Trenton.
Born in Russell, Pa., she moved from Kentucky to Trenton 12 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quay Revere Owens.
Survivors include a son, Terry Owens of Trenton; a daughter, Monica Pipkins of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Elaine Padilla of Chiefland and Muriel Owens of Trenton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Jean Blanding Fraser Hart
Jean Blanding Fraser Hart of Gainesville died Monday. She was 100.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker. Born in Staunton, Va., she moved to Gainesville from Atlanta in 1946.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville since 1946. She taught Sunday school for 40 years and was a member of the building committee when the present church building was built in the 1950s. Mrs. Hart was also the president of the Women of the Church and an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women.
Mrs. Hart was a member of the Gainesville Garden Club, past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Colonial Dames of America. She also volunteered at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville.
Mrs. Hart graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore with a bachelor's degree in physics in 1923. She was the alumni adviser to the local chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was honored with 75 years of membership in 1995, and she won the Delta Gamma cable award.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman H. Hart.
Survivors include four sons, John Fraser Hart of Edina, Minn., James Wilson Hart of Gainesville, Abel McIver Hart of Hendersonville, N.C., and David Edward Hart of Charlotte, N.C.; her daughter, Jean Blanding Hart Dickey of Columbus, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
