Doris Agnes Sherman

JOHNSON - Doris Agnes Sherman died Friday in Hospice Care Center in Gainesville. She was 63.

Mrs. Sherman was a waitress in Jerry's Restaurant in Ocala until it closed about seven years ago.

She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in Ocala for five years.

She was a Catholic.

Survivors include three sisters and two brothers.

Mary E. Simmons

WALDO - Mary E. Simmons of Waldo died Sunday at Shands at AGH. She was 76.

Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker. Born in Fargo, Ga., she moved from Gainesville to Waldo 25 years ago. She was a member of the Church of God.

Mrs. Simmons was preceeded in death by her husband, Homer Simmons; and a daughter, Lori S. Hope.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Joe Simmons and Homer E. Simmons, both of Waldo, and Jerry Simmons of High Springs; two daughters, Pauline Lewis of Waldo and Charlotte Woodard of Nahunta, Ga.; a brother, Ed Stapleton of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bertie T. Webb

LIVE OAK - Bertie T. Webb of Live Oak died Sunday at the Lake City Medical Center after a long illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Webb was a homemaker.

Born in Batson, Texas, she moved from Magee, Miss., to Live Oak 34 years ago.

Mrs. Webb was a member of the Live Oak Garden Club and the First Baptist Church of Live Oak, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Womens Mission Unit.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, the Rev. Charlie A. Webb of Live Oak; a daughter, Mary Gaye Webb of Eustis; three sisters, Roberta James of Hartselle, Ala., Jean Collins of Jackson, Miss., and June Biedenharn of Long Beach, Calif.

Calvin C. Williams

BRANFORD - Calvin C. Williams of Branford died Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City.

Mr. Williams owned the former W&D; Tractor Sales. He also was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant.

Born in Ringgold, Ga., he moved from Palmer, Alaska, to Branford 18 years ago. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Carla Williams of Branford; four daughters, DeAnne Williams and Dana Williams, both of Branford, Sandra Cannella of Apex, N.C., and Sherrie Dyal of Gainesville; four sisters, Peggy Griswold of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mildred Prestwood of Nashville, Tenn., Oleta Wicker of Stone Mountain, Ga., and FreddieTerrell of Rutherford College, N.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Frank E. Atkinson

ALACHUA -- Frank E. Atkinson of Alachua died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 89.

Mr. Atkinson was born in New Jersey and moved to Alachua from Stuart in 1996.

He worked in retail sales.

He was a Mason and an Elk.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Atkins of Alachua; three daughters, Mary Entrekin of Alachua, Jane Howard of Longwood and Katharine Gibson of Lake Worth; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph Brockington

Ralph Brockington, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness. He was 54.

Mr. Brockington was a grounds superintendent at the University of Florida.

He graduated from Lincoln High School.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Robyn N. Brockington of Miami and Derrien Brockington of Gainesville; his mother, Addie Brockington of Gainesville; seven sisters, Barbara Gaither, Earnestine Butler, Sandra Jackson, Sherrel Brockington, Beverly Hudson, Jacqueline Green and Edith Brockington, all of Gainesville; and three brothers, George Brockington, Alphonso Brockington and Eli Brockington, all of Gainesville.

Rachel Hackney Brown

LAKE CITY -- Rachel Hackney Brown, a lifelong resident of Lake City, died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 88.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She attended Columbia High School, Brenau College and Florida State College for Women.

Survivors include two sons, Clarence E. Brown Jr. and Tom W. Brown, both of Lake City; T.A. Hackney of Lake City; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Irene Dezsi

HAWTHORNE -- Irene Dezsi of Hawthorne died Wednesday at her daughter's residence in St. Augustine. She was 75.

Mrs. Dezsi was born in Wyandotte, Mich., and moved to Hawthorne 12 years ago.

She was a member of St. Philip Meri Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Julius Dezsi of Hawthorne; four daughters, Cris Fast of Raleigh, N.C., Dianne Wisniewski of Lincoln Park, Mich., Kathy Hockle of St. Augustine and Michelle Ellen of Lakeview, S.C.; two sons, David Dezsi of Southgate, Mich., and Carl Dezsi of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a brother, Joseph Daiek of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Annette Graham

Annette Graham, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Jan. 7. She was 47.

Mrs. Graham was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Ramon Johnson of Gainesville; five sisters, Survela Graham of Orlando, Yvonne Graham and Margaret Thorns, both of Gainesville, Linda Graham of West Palm Beach and Irene Thorns of Archer; four brothers, Arthur Graham and George Graham, both of Grove Park, Jerry Graham of Gainesville and Noah Graham of Orlando.

Walter J. Doran Jr.

MELROSE -- Walter J. Doran Jr. died Tuesday at his residence in Melrose. He was 73.

Mr. Doran was born in Greenwich, Conn., and moved to Melrose from Jacksonville 25 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines.

He was a Catholic and a member of the AARP.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Regina DeLoach of Middleberg, Anna Catherine Dunnam of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Victoria Loraine Eldridge of Jacksonville; a stepson, Lawrence Andrew Longhi of Palatka; three sisters, Anna Lorenzo, Mickey Pierson and Marjorie Jenkins, all of Long Island; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alice Virginia Francis

OLD TOWN -- Alice Virginia Francis of Old Town died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 71.

Mrs. Francis was born in Wood Key and moved to Old Town seven years ago.

She was a member of the Old Town Singles Club and the Countryside Chapel Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Collier and Patricia Woodby, both of Bell, and Cathy Merideth of Springfield, Mich.; a son, Rudolph Lewis Smith III of Freeport, Texas; two sisters, Leona Priest of Arcadia and Cecilia Weeks of Goodland; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Marion Randel Grant

STEINHATCHEE -- Marion Randel Grant died Wednesday at his residence in Steinhatchee. He was 64.

Mr. Grant was born in Eddison, Ga., and moved to Steinhatchee from Live Oak in 1979.

He was a member of Suwannee River Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Corbin-Grant of Steinhatchee; two daughters, Judy Ann Thomas of Horseshoe Beach and Lillian Diane Henderson of Old Town; and a son, Buddy Grant of Steinhatchee.

Edward Bickett Hickman

MAYO -- Edward Bickett Hickman died Wednesday at his residence in Mayo after an extended illness. He was 60.

A native of South Carolina, Mr. Hickman moved to Mayo from Stuart in 1976.

He was a member of Mayo Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Hickman of Mayo; a daughter, Michelle Ball of Live Oak; a son, Michael Hickman of Mayo; his mother, Elsie Claire Hickman of Dunedin; five sisters, Lillie Parsons of Thomaston, Ala., Geraldine McCullas and Brenda Causey, both of Okeechobee, Linda Phillips of Greenville, S.C., and Virginia Ruth Boss of Kanaplus, N.C.; four brothers, John Monroe Hickman Jr. of Mayo, Bobby Earl Hickman and Tommy Hickman, both of Okeechobee, and Jimmy Hickman of Palm Harbor; and two grandchildren.
