Marjorie L. Galatis of Boca Raton died at her home Monday. She was 75.
Mrs. Galatis moved to Boca Raton from Miami in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Phelan of Newberry; a son, Michael Galatis of Sumner, Wash.; a brother, Earl Lister of Texas; and four grandchildren.
David A. Marker
David A. Marker of Gainesville died Sunday in Gainesville. He was 55.
An Ohio native, Mr. Marker moved to Florida in 1978.
He was an employee of Main Street Chevrolet.
He was an avid fisherman, a music lover and a collector of Native-American artifacts.
Mr. Marker was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Alice Marker.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle and James Hurry of Ocala, and Rachelle Marker of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Phyllis Shaffer of Bellville, Ohio; a brother, Joe Marker of Bellville; his former wife, Elenora Marker of Ocala; and two grandchildren, Elorah and Ethan Hurry.

Alice Philman Pipkins
BELL -- Alice Philman Pipkins, a lifelong resident of Bell, died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 86.
Mrs. Pipkins was a custodian with the schools in Bell. She was a Protestant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mannie Pipkins; and a son, Daril Pipkins.
She is survived by a son, Horace Pipkins of Bell; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Timothy E. Reid
Timothy E. Reid of Gainesville died at his home Saturday. He was 67.
Mr. Reid was born and educated in Columbia County.
He was a laborer and a member of the Church of God by Faith, where he served as an elder.
Survivors include five sisters, Alma Daymon Merricks of Archer, Florida Mae Jackson of Miami, Georgia M. McKnight of Maitland, Mildred R. Postell of Daytona Beach and Wilma Reid-Camps of Gainesville; and four brothers, Willard Reid and Earl Benjamin, both of Gainesville, James L. Reid of Holly Hill and Franklin E. Reid of Newark, N.J.
Melody E. Thomas
Melody E. Thomas of Gainesville died Aug. 31 at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 38.
Mrs. Thomas was born in San Diego and lived in Gainesville for most of her life.
She was a health care worker and a member of the Williams Temple Church of God in Christ.
She graduated from Eastside High School in 1979.
Survivors include her mother, Delores McCray of Gainesville; four sisters, Angela D. Ponds, Thyra Epps and Gloria D. Henderson, all of Gainesville, and Kathy L. Byrd, U.S. Army, Fort Jackson, S.C.; two brothers, Kenneth D. Traylor of Archer and Maurice Byrd, U.S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas; and numerous other relatives.
Joe Atkins Jr.
Joe Atkins Jr. of Gainesville died on Friday at his home following a brief illness. He was 69.
Mr. Atkins was born in Gainesville and moved to Melbourne before returning to Gainesville in 1980.
He was a construction laborer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Atkins of Gainesville and Katherine Atkins of Melbourne; three sons, Kenneth Atkins of High Springs, Ellis George of Gainesville and Bernard Atkins of Melbourne; a brother, the Rev. Wesley Atkins of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Walter Dale Bring
Walter Dale Bring of Gainesville died Tuesday at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. He was 84.
Mr. Bring was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from Ashland, Ohio, in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Alachua County where he received many awards, including volunteer of the year for 1997.
He was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ohio.
Mr. Bring is survived by his wife, Ethel Ernst Bring of Gainesville; two sons, Donald D. Bring of Gainesville and Larry L. Bring of Valdosta, Ga.; one daughter, Becky Bring McDaniel of Gainesville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida.
Julius Bryant Sr.
Julius Bryant Sr. of Newberry died Saturday at his residence following a brief illness. He was 70.
Mr. Bryant was born in Jasper and moved to Newberry in 1973.
He was a retired construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Nelson-Bryant of Newberry; two sons, Julius Bryant Jr. of Gainesville and Mario Bryant of Newberry; three stepdaughters, Katherine Dula of Tampa, Jacqueline Lawrence of St. Petersburg and Sherri Holmes of Orange Park; two stepsons, Anthony Goff of Lithonia, Ga., and Alonzo Williams of Gainesville; a sister, Luree Jackson of Starke; and 13 grandchildren.
James Roy Carroll Sr.
SHELBY, N.C. -- James Roy "Jim" Carroll Sr. of Shelby, N.C. died May 13 in an accidental drowning. He was 41.
Mr. Carroll was a mechanic with Anchor Marine and formerly was employed by Rental Center.
He was a member of River of Life Church.
He is followed in death by his father, James Leroy Carroll of Gainesville, who died Monday. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Gail Blount Carroll of Shelby; his mother, Carol Louise Fillipini Carroll of Gainesville; two brothers, Jeffrey Carroll of Gainesville and Jerry Carroll of Jacksonville; one sister, Verna Yarborough of Jacksonville; and his daughter, Jamie Rebecca Carroll of Shelby.
Essie Mae Livingston Cobb
Essie Mae Livingston Cobb of Gainesville died at Shands at Alachua after a lingering illness. She was 73.
Born in Greenville, she moved to Gainesville in 1946.
Mrs. Cobb was a housewife. She was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Hawthorne.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Cobb Sr. of Gainesville; two brothers, Henry Livingston of Greenville and Lonnie Livingston of Gainesville; two sisters, Rosa L. Wisdom and Bertha L. Livingston, both of Orlando; four sons, Arthur L. Cobb Jr. and Russell L. Cobb, both of Gainesville, Robert J. Cobb of Hawthorne and Jerome Cobb of Gainesville; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gary Thomas Dixon
WILLISTON -- Gary Thomas Dixon of Williston died Sunday in Williston. He was 57.
Mr. Dixon was a trapper for the state of Florida. He also served in the U.S. Army.
He was born in Ocala and moved to Williston four years ago.
Mr. Dixon was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dixon of Williston; a son, Gary Alan Dixon of Williston; three daughters, Mary Lynn Sykes of Miami, Patti Louise Dixon of Williston and Barbara Lee Roberts of Clewiston; his mother, Carlene Dixon of Stuart; three brothers, Ronald Dixon of Cocoa Beach, Kenneth Dixon of Miami and Eric Dixon of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Bennie Freeman Estes
Bennie Freeman Estes of Gainesville died Tuesday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital. He was 84.
Born in Harrisburg, Ky., he moved to Gainesville from Lynn, Ind., 16 years ago.
He worked at Belden Manufacturing for 28 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a Baptist.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Stella Griffith Estes. Survivors include four sons, Cecil Estes of Richmond, Ind., Bennie Estes Jr. of Tulsa, Okla., Daniel L. Estes of Cartersville, Ga., and Richard Estes of Winchester, Ind.; five daughters, Beverly J. Miller of Gainesville, Janet Bray of Egan, Tenn., Anna Griffin of Winchester, Ind., and Stella Phenis and Sandra Sanders, both of Lynn, Ind.
