Allen Hampton
CHIEFLAND -- Allen Hampton, a lifelong resident of Chiefland, died Jan. 11 at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston following an extended illness. He was 67.
Mr. Hampton was formerly employed with the Alliance Dairy Laborer.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hampton of Chiefland; six daughters, Carolyn Thompson and Leila Jones, both of Deltona, Ernestine Harpe of Osteen, Felica Williams of Jacksonville, N.C., Shenetta Young of Cross City and Sabrina Young of Gainesville; four sons, Allen Hampton Jr. of Jacksonville, Harry Hampton of Lake Helen, Johnnie Hampton of Indiana and James Hampton of Chiefland; a sister, Mildred Dexter of Chiefland; a brother, James Hampton of Chiefland; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Walter Harris
WILLISTON -- Walter Harris of Williston died Friday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston following an extended illness. He was 77.
Mr. Harris was born in Quitman, Ga., and moved to Williston from Tampa seven months ago.
He was a retired Tampa Shipyard employee.
He received the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Harris was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa.
Survivors include a daughter, Oneida Williams of Williston; two sisters, Mary Frazier and Pearlie Miller, both of Quitman; three brothers, Hosie Harris of Tampa, Eddie Harris of Quitman and Peter Harris of Alabama; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth Lawrence
DOWLING PARK -- Ruth Lawrence of Dowling Park died Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park following an extended illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Lawrence was born in Deputy, Ind., and moved to Dowling Park from Winter Park in 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Prophetstown Advent Christian Church in Prophetstown, Ill., and the Jolly Neighbors Club. She was Miss Tiskiwa High of 1927 in Tiskiwa, Ill.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Kenneth Lawrence of Sandpoint, Idaho, and the Rev. Lester Lawrence of Clearwater; a sister, Edna Jean Taylor of Prophetstown, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Robert George Mueller
WALDO -- Robert George Mueller of Waldo died Monday in a boating accident on Little Lake Sante Fe. He was 73.
Mr. Mueller was a native of Washington, D.C. After 30 years of service as a sales coordinator at Ford Motor Co. in Buffalo, N.Y., he retired to Florida, dividing his time between his two homes in Waldo and Daytona Beach.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include four daughters, Diane Schleissing and Meg White, both of Jacksonville, Sandra Fraser of Port Charlotte and Rosemary Schleissing of Riverview; a son, Eric Mueller of Jacksonville; a brother, Gerald Mueller of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
Ola Mae Rowe
STARKE -- Ola Mae Rowe, a lifelong resident of Starke, died Wednesday at Brookwood Nursing Center in Starke. She was 85.
Mrs. Rowe was a homemaker and a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Rowe.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Amy of Jacksonville; and a brother, H.F. Parmenter of Georgia.
Ezell Webster
HIGH SPRINGS -- Ezell Webster, a lifelong resident of High Springs, died Sunday at North Florida Special Care Center following an extended illness. She was 79.
Mrs. Webster was a homemaker.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Pallbearers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Casey Webster.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Anderson of High Springs; two sons, Harry Gordon of High Springs and Vincent Webster of Gainesville; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild.
James Lester Alden Sr.
James Lester Alden Sr. of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH.
He was 80.
Mr. Alden was born in Shreveport, La., and moved to Gainesville from Neama, La., in 1943.
He was the owner and operator of Alden's Cabinet Shop in Gainesville.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and South Africa as a staff sergeant first class. He was a charter member of the North Carolina World War II Memorial.
Mr. Alden was a member of North Central Baptist Church of Gainesville, where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth C. Williams Alden.
Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Ann Nelson of Gainesville; a son, James Lester Alden Jr. of Ocala; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Jose A. Espinosa
Jose A. Espinosa of Gainesville died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 49.
A native of Puerto Rico, Mr. Espinosa moved to Gainesville in 1988.
He was a drafting engineer and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maria S. Millan of Gainesville; two daughters, Janet Ortiz of Germany and Keyla Espinosa of Gainesville; a son, Jose A. Espinosa of Ocala; his parents, Hilda Seda and Faustino Espinosa of Puerto Rico; a sister, Hilda Espinosa of Puerto Rico; a brother, Faustino Espinosa of Puerto Rico; and three grandchildren.
Sam Jenkins
Sam Jenkins of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. He was 46.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Palatka and moved to Gainesville 17 years ago. He was a laborer and a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Jenkins of Gainesville; a daughter, Sandra Jenkins of Tallahassee; four sons, Samuel Jenkins, Michael Jenkins and Demetris Jenkins, all of Gainesville, and the Rev. Sam Jenkins Jr. of Tallahassee; three sisters, Mary Johnson of Orlando, Rosetta James of Apopka and Mary Etta Pendleton of Sanford; three brothers, Nathan Jenkins and George Jenkins, both of Sanford, and Robert Jenkins of San Mateo; and 14 grandchildren.
Lucille Simmons Newsome
Lucille Simmons Newsome of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was 80.
Mrs. Newsome was born in Louise and moved to Gainesville 60 years ago.
She was a retired cook and a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Hicks of Gainesville and Terral Cobbler of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Herman Newsome of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Joyce G. Price
Joyce G. Price, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 55.
Mrs. Price was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Christ in Williston.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Griffin, Karen Camps-Hale and Marva Nelson, all of Gainesville; five sons, Toney Jacobs, Greg Nelson, Kevin Nelson, Keith Robinson and Kenneth Johnson, all of Gainesville; two sisters, Deloris Oates and Lessie Johnson, both of Gainesville; three brothers, Earnest Perry of El Paso, Texas, Freddie Price of St. Petersburg and Leo Price of Gainesville; and 11 grandchildren.
