Donald Lee Anderson

CHIEFLAND -- Donald Lee Anderson of Chiefland died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 66.

Mr. Anderson was a former police chief in Chiefland. He had formerly served in the U.S. Marines.

He was born in Clearwater and moved from New Port Richey to Chiefland 16 years ago.

Mr. Anderson was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Anderson of Chiefland; five sons, Albert Lee Anderson of Old Town, Donald Scott Anderson of Rosewood, Daniel William Anderson of Winter Park, James Clay Anderson of Chiefland and Clinton Dean Anderson of Cross City; two daughters, Linda Marie Perry of Creedmore, N.C., and Tracy Elaine Hinote of Chiefland; and 10 grandchildren.

Gloria Leyson Mara

BRONSON -- Gloria Leyson Mara of Bronson died unexpectedly Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She was 76.

Mrs. Mara was a homemaker.

She was born in Boston and moved from Enfield, Conn., to Bronson 12 years ago.

Mrs. Mara was an Episcopalian and attended the Bronson United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Homemakers Club of Levy County, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

Mrs. Mara was preceded in death by a son, Bruce McPhee; and a daughter, Sandra Sullivan. Survivors include her husband, Paul J. Mara Sr. of Bronson; two daughters, Pamela Seever of Belton, Mo., and Joyce Wood of Apopka; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

William Hahn

William Hahn of Gainesville died Thursday in Gainesville. He was 94.

Mr. Hahn was a building services supervisor in Detroit for the Board of Education. He also formerly volunteered for the Food Bank in Leesburg.

He was born in Schöneck, Germany, and moved from Leesburg to Gainesville last year.

Mr. Hahn was a Protestant.

Survivors include a son, William Hahn of Gainesville; two brothers, Kurt Hahn of Ocala and Carl Hahn of Detroit; a sister, Eleanor Petz of Ocala; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

George R. Metzger

O'BRIEN -- George R. Metzger of O'Brien died Thursday at Avalon Healthcare Center in Lake City after a long illness. He was 71.

Mr. Metzger was a farmer and a truck driver.

He was born in Perrysville, Ind., and moved to the O'Brien area 30 years ago.

He was a member of O'Brien Baptist Church.

Mr. Metzger was preceded in death by a son, Jay Raymond Metzger.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Metzger of O'Brien; a daughter, Renne Wingate of Lake City; three sons, Kim Metzger of High Springs, Todd Metzger of Cashtown, Pa., and Victor Metzger of O¹Brien; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alan J. Becker

REDDICK -- Alan J. Becker of Reddick died Sunday in his home. He was 67.

Mr. Becker was born in Benton Harbor, Mich., and moved to Reddick from California in 1958. He was owner of Sun Central Boring Co. and a cattle rancher. Mr. Becker was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Ocala Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Becker; and one sister, Judith D. Schwend of Dade City.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of Marion County.

Lark Ann Lalande

BELL -- Lark Ann Lalande of Bell died Saturday in Shands at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville following a long illness. She was 48.

Mrs. Lalande was born in New Orleans, La., and moved to Bell from Lantana in 1987. She graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in English and worked at UF's Health Sciences Division. Mrs. Lalande was a member of San Juan Catholic Church in Branford.

Survivors include her parents, Frederick W. "Fred" and Beryl Lalande of Bell; one daughter, Brooke K. Wyatt of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Gann Enholm of Gainesville, Jody Clemis of Brandon and Leslie Lalande of Bronson; two brothers, Andrew Lalande of Gainesville and Rick Lalande of Norman, Okla.; and maternal grandfather Claude Bergeron of Crystal River.

Leroy Head

WILLISTON -- Leroy Head of Williston died Thursday at his home. He was 75.

Mr. Head was an Army veteran who formerly owned and operated Head's Gas Station in Williston. He had previously served in the U.S. Army.

He was born in Madison and moved from Quitman, Ga., to Williston 43 years ago.

Mr. Head was a member of the Church of God, the Ornan Masonic Lodge No. 117 F&AM; and the American Legion post 236, all in Williston.

He enjoyed fishing. Mr. Head was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Head Jr.; and a daughter, Joyce Arnold.

Survivors include four sons, Robert E. Head of Dawsonville, Ga., Thomas E. Head and Billy R. Head, both of Williston, and Kenneth W. Head of Salem, Ala.; a sister, Fannie May Barker of Orange, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert Ford Head

Robert Ford Head of Gainesville died Wednesday at Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville. He was 88.

Mr. Head was a wildlife and nature photographer. He and his father also had previously founded the Royal Crown Bottling Co. in Lexington, Ky. He also served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was born in Owensboro, Ky., and moved to Gainesville 13 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Head of Gainesville; two daughters, Anne Coleman of Gainesville and Jane Head of New York City; a sister, Marian Brodsky of Ocala; and four grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Veda E.M. Washington

TRENTON -- Veda E.M. Washington of Trenton died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville after a short illness. She was 80.

Mrs. Washington was a cosmetologist.

She was born in Chaires and moved from Cross City to Trenton 55 years ago.

Mrs. Washington was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Veda Washington of Trenton; three sons, Elvert L. Washington of Trenton, Lucious Washington of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rufus Washington of Memphis, Tenn.; two half-brothers, Willie Miller and Lanerris Miller, both of Tallahassee; four half-sisters, Jacquelyn Dean, Mary Alice Hampton, Linda Washington and Emma Bivens, all of Tallahassee; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary Bilcovich

LAWTEY -- Mary Bilcovich of Lawtey died Sunday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Bilcovich was born in Heilwood, Pa., and moved to Lawtey from Zephyrhills in 1994. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Bilcovich of Lawtey and Lillian Cooley of Endicott, N.Y.; a son, Alphonso Bilcovich of Tampa; two brothers, George Fetcinko of Michigan and Mike Fetcinko of Port Crane, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alice Marie Fuller Hamilton

LAKE BUTLER -- Alice Marie Fuller Hamilton of Lake Butler died Sunday at her home after a brief illness. She was 72.

Born in Alburg, Vt., Mrs. Hamilton moved to Lake Butler in 1969. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church of Starke. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Hamilton.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan H. Powell of Lake Butler; two sons, Thomas Hamilton of Gainesville and Terry P. Hamilton of Hampton Lake; two sisters, Rosmund Martin of Green Cove Springs and Katherine Lorch of Cape Canaveral; and four grandchildren.

Warren G. Knauff

HAWTHORNE -- Warren G. Knauff of Hawthorne died Saturday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 67.

A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, Mr. Knauff owned and operated a printing business there for 20 years before retiring to Florida. He moved to Hawthorne from Hastings seven years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Knauff of Hawthorne; a daughter, Brenda Compton, of Portsmouth, Ohio; and three sisters, Betty Blosser, of Medway, Ohio, Barbara Locher, of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Ruth Roth of Loch Sheldrake, N.Y.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Shands at AGH surgical intensive-care unit, in care of critical care director Cindy Keller.
