Luther Vincent Powell

Luther Vincent Powell of Gainesville died Thursday at his home. He was 86.

Mr. Powell was a fashion designer and a World War II veteran. He was born in Convoy, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from North Miami Beach nine years ago. He graduated from Wittenburg University, where he belonged to the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Mr. Powell belonged to First Lutheran Church of Gainesville. He was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church of North Miami Beach.

Mr. Powell is preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Powell. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Powell of Gainesville; two sons, Gregory Powell of Atlantic Beach and Lawrence Powell of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Richard W. Powell of Port Clinton, Ohio, Robert T. Powell of Lima, Ohio, and Warren Powell of Camden, Mich.; a sister, Louella Coffelt of Mansfield, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Delores M. Crowe

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Delores M. Crowe of Greencastle, Ind., died Sunday in the Clay County Hospital after an extended illness. She was 68.

Mrs. Crowe was a homemaker.

She was a member of Croys Creek Christian Church and the Moose and Eagles Lodge in Greencastle.

Survivors include her mother; two daughters, including Alfreda Eastman of High Springs; three sons; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Golino

TRENTON -- Elizabeth Golino of Trenton died Saturday at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton after a lengthy illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Golino, a seamstress, was a native of New York City, N.Y., and lived in Deerfield Beach before moving to Trenton 10 years ago.

She was Catholic.

Survivors include a son, Domenick Golino of Deerfield Beach; two daughters, Vera Wilson and Louise Robinson, both of Bronson; a sister, Anne Tassinari of Scarsdale, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Gourney Horne

CHIEFLAND -- Gourney Horne of Chiefland died Monday at his residence.

He was 70.

Mr. Horne was a retired mechanic who was born in Gilchrist County and lived in the area all of his life.

He was a member of the Brown Masonic Lodge of Chiefland and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary F. Horne of Chiefland; a son, James Horne of Chiefland; a daughter, Connie Asbell of Chiefland; two brothers, Avis Horne of Chiefland and Harry Horne of Plant City; two sisters, Montie Horton of Fort Walton Beach and Vitalee Jones of Plant City; and one grandchild.

Bertha A. Laczko

WILLISTON -- Bertha A. Laczko of Williston died Saturday in Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston following a heart attack. She was 82.

Mrs. Laczko was born in Freeland, Mich., and moved to Williston from Midland, Mich., 10 years ago.

She was a homemaker, a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church in Williston and the Williston Highlands Golf and Country Club. She loved arts and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Peter J. Laczko of Williston; a son, Richard P. Laczko of Williston; four daughters, Karen Johnson of Texas, Linda Shipley of Elizabeth City, N.C., Rose Mary Laczko of Michigan and Loretta Boelkins of Texas; three sisters; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Buckley Duane Gamble

LIVE OAK - Buckley Duane Gamble of Live Oak died Monday at Suwannee Health Care Center in Live Oak after a long illness. He was 68.

Mr. Gamble was a former merchant seaman.

He was born in Mayo and lived most of his life in the Mayo area before moving to Live Oak four years ago.

Mr. Gamble was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Gamble and Tammy Brawley, both of Jacksonville; a sister, Laura Michel of Keystone Heights; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

E. Ashby Hammond

E. Ashby Hammond of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH. He was 90.

Mr. Hammond was a professor emeritus of history at the University of Florida. He also wrote numerous articles and two books on medical history.

He was born in Rowland, N.C., and moved to Gainesville 57 years ago. He was immediately called to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II and moved back to Gainesville four years later.

Mr. Hammond received a bachelor's degree and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret W. Hammond of Gainesville; a daughter, Peggy Carr of Gainesville; a sister, Evelyn Dukes of Lumberton, N.C.; and a grandson.

Expressions of sympathy may made as donations to the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History at UF.

Robert Moultrop Mears Jr.

TALLAHASSEE - Robert Moultrop Mears Jr. of Tallahassee died Monday in Tallahassee after a short illness.

He was 50.

Mr. Mears was born in Los Angeles and moved to Tallahassee 12 years ago.

Survivors include his stepmother, Juanita Mears of Gainesville; a brother; a stepbrother, David Flagg of Gainesville; a sister; and a stepsister, Laura Posey of Gainesville.

Robert Parker

Robert Parker of Gainesville died Sunday at Hospice House. He was 88.

Mr. Parker was a former appraiser for the Jamaica Savings Bank of New York.

He was born in Danville, Ohio, and moved from St. Petersburg to Gainesville four years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Parker of Gainesville; two daughters, Gina Santemeyer of St. Petersburg and Eleanor Parker Briseno of Gainesville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Helen Rhodes

LAKE CITY - Helen Rhodes of Quitman, Ga., died Tuesday in Lake City. She was 70.

Mrs. Rhodes was a former policewoman in Quitman.

She was born in Quitman and lived there most of her life.

Mrs. Rhodes was a Baptist.

Survivors include a brother, Russell Johnson of Dublin, Ga.; and a sister, Maxine Touchton of Live Oak.

Carley Dale Winstead

STARKE - Carley Dale Winstead of Starke died Tuesday at his home. He was 69.

Mr. Winstead was a retired corrections officer for the state of Florida Department of Corrections. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was born in Manchester, Tenn., and moved from Detroit to Starke 28 years ago.

Mr. Winstead was an elder at the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lee Maynard Winstead of Starke; two sons, Michael Dale Winstead and Dwaynecq Winstead, both of Starke; a brother, Hiram Winstead of Crestview; a sister, Kathryn Teal of Manchester; and one granddaughter.

Ronald Edward Cline

Additional survivors of Ronald Edward Cline of Gainesville, who died Sunday at Shands at AGH, include a brother, James G. Cline of Gainesville.
