Barcie Ann Jones Smith
ALACHUA -- Barcie Ann Jones Smith of Alachua died Wednesday at her home.
She was 96.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She also was retired from Sunland Training Center, now Tacachale.
Born in Tallapoosa County, Ala., she moved from Tallapoosa County to Alachua 63 years ago.
She was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery and in Sunday school.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Smith; a daughter, Peggy Jean Smith; and a son, Marion Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Smith of Eagleville, Tenn., and Fred Smith of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Kathleen O'Steen of Alachua and Floy S. Gober of Arlington; a sister, Tralice Sanders of Alexander City, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren.

Deborah Shawanda Stroud
Deborah Shawanda "Wanda" Stroud of Gainesville died Monday in DeLand.
She was 25.
Miss Stroud was a manager at Majestic Oaks Apartments.
She was a lifelong resident of Gainesville. She was a 1991 graduate of Santa Fe High School.
Miss Stroud was a member of Compassionate Outreach Ministry, where she was a member of the choir and the women's ensemble.
Survivors include her mother, Louise Stroud of Gainesville; her father, William Stroud of Jacksonville; two brothers, William Stroud Jr. of Gainesville and Cary C. Stroud of Jacksonville; four sisters, Linda Campbell and Tammie Gwen Stroud, both of Jacksonville, Danette "Kim" Stroud-Hampton and Barbara Stroud-Perry, both of Gainesville; and her maternal grandparents, James and Emma Tolbert of Alachua.
J.C. Thomas
WILLISTON -- J.C. Thomas of Williston died July 15 at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Thomas was a laborer.
He was a lifelong resident of Williston and was educated in Levy County public schools.
Survivors include three sisters, Isolene Cox and Idester Graham, both of Williston, and Glover Mae of Miami; and a brother, Sammy Miller of Archer.
Viola Edwards Williams
Viola Edwards "Toast" Williams of Gainesville died July 14 at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was 84.
Mrs. Williams was a home- maker.
She was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and of the Home Mission Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie L. Williams; and a son, Eddie Richardson.
Survivors include three sons, Willie Richardson and George Wallace, both of Gainesville, and Ulysses Richardson of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Eula Mae Coward and Jeraline Terry, both of Gainesville; a stepdaughter, Marion Lewis of Fort Meade; a brother, Alphonso Williams of Tampa; 41 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren.
Roberta Moore Comfort
Roberta Moore Comfort of Gainesville died July 1 at North Florida Specialty Care Center after a long illness. She was 82.
Mrs. Comfort was a homemaker and a former secretary. She worked in Washington, D.C., during World War II.
Born in Miami, she moved to Gainesville 17 years ago. She was a 1934 graduate of Miami Senior High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Myrven Dennis Comfort.
Survivors include her son, Robert Dennis Comfort of Gainesville; a sister, Rubye M. Berry of Mansfield, Ohio; a brother, Aubrey O. Moore Jr. of Ocala; and two grandchildren.

Sharon Hamilton Ennis
Sharon Hamilton Ennis of West Chester, Pa., died July 1 at her home in West Chester. She was 50.
Mrs. Ennis was the associate vice president of information services at West Chester University.
Born in Gainesville, she moved from Binhamton, N.Y., to West Chester one year ago. She received a doctorate in educational research from the University of Florida.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Ennis of West Chester; her mother, Thelma Hamilton of Gainesville; and two sisters.

Patrick Moore Heckard Sr.
Patrick Moore Heckard Sr. of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 90.
Mr. Heckard was a retired salesman for Lathan-Davis Chevrolet in Gainesville and also worked for Hipp Construction Co.
He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
Mr. Heckard was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge No. 41, and was past president of the Numismatic Club in Gainesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pearle Heckard; and two sons, Patrick Heckard Jr. and Thomas Price Heckard.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Heckard Underwood of Gainesville and Mary Pat Heckard Sapp of Neptune Beach; his caregiver, William E. Roland of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
William Clifford Hogan
William Clifford Hogan of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 76.
Mr. Hogan was a television technician. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Born in Morgan County, Ga., he moved from St. Petersburg to Gainesville 10 years ago.
He was a member of the DOW Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Hogan.
Survivors include two daughters, Ronnie Khuri of Gainesville and Rita Pink of Modena, N.Y.; three brothers, H. Grady Hogan Jr. of Covington, Ga., James Hogan of Oxford, Ga., and Bobby Hogan of Thomaston, Ga.; a sister, Frances Tuell of Madison, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
James Allen Manning
HAWTHORNE -- James Allen "Al" Manning of Hawthorne died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 52.
Mr. Manning was a retired assistant chief of building management at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and the Army Reserves.
Born in Hawthorne, he moved from Miami back to Hawthorne nine years ago. He was a 1964 graduate of Lincoln High School in Gainesville and received his bachelor's of science degree from the University of Hartford in Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Manning was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E Church in Hawthorne.
He enjoyed writing poetry.
Survivors include his companion, Linda Ellison of Hawthorne; three sons, James Manning, Rodney Manning and Aaron Manning, all of Hawthorne; two daughters, Tammy Anderson of Daytona Beach and Nikki Barnes of Miami; his mother, Ruby Manning of Hawthorne; a sister, Joyce Manning of Hawthorne; three brothers, Morris Manning Jr. and Ralph Manning, both of Gainesville, and Eugene Manning of Plant City; and four grandchildren.
