Thomas Harvey Gary
Thomas Harvey Gary of Gainesville died Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 78.
Mr. Gary was a retired taxi driver. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a military policeman.
He was born in Pompano Beach and moved from New York City to Gainesville 21 years ago. He attended Shell High School in Hawthorne.
Mr. Gary was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Hawthorne and of the Charles Gordon American Legion Post 232 in Hawthorne.
He was featured in an article by The Older American's Council in 1990 detailing his humor and zest for life despite a disability that forced him to use a wheelchair.
Survivors include five sons, Brian Gary of Randolph, N.J., Kenneth Gary of White Plains, N.Y., Vernon Gary of New York City, David Gary of Newport News, Va., and Bernard Davis of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.
Ronald Dean Shelton Sr.
Ronald Dean Shelton Sr. of Stoneville, N.C., died Monday in Greensboro, N.C. He was 65.
Mr. Shelton was a retired maintenance supervisor.
He was born in Leaksville, N.C., and lived in the Cedar Key area for 15 years before moving to Stoneville two years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Evans Shelton of Stoneville; a daughter, Beth Shelton Bailey of Albany, Ga.; two sons, John Charles Shelton of Maynardville, Tenn., and Ronald Dean Shelton Jr. of Daytona Beach; a sister, Sylvia Grogan of Eden, . N.C.; and two grandsons.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Smith McMichael Cancer Center, Morehead Memorial Hospital, in Eden.
Rhonda Jean Kilby
MELROSE - Rhonda Jean Kilby of Melrose died Monday at Hospice House of Palm Beach after a battle with cancer. She was 37.
Miss Kilby was a collection agent. She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., and lived in West Palm Beach for 12 years before moving from Deltona to Melrose three months ago. She attended high school in Delray Beach and graduated from Cassadaga Valley High in Sinclairville, N.Y.
Survivors include her parents, Robert H. and Beverly Kilby of Melrose; a brother, Larry Kilby of Laingsburg, Mich.; a sister, Teresa Kolshak of Royal Palm Beach; a maternal grandmother, June Malicki of Deltona; and a maternal great-grandmother, Kate Rinaldo of Absecon, N.J.

Helen Hartsworm Kluess
Helen Hartsworm Kluess of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. She was 85.
She was a registered nurse for an industrial company in Wisconsin.
She was born in Appleton, Wis., and lived in Spring Hill for 15 years before moving to Gainesville one year ago. She was trained as a nurse at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital in Neenah, Wis.
Mrs. Kluess was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gainesville.
Survivors include her husband, Erwin Richard Kluess of Gainesville; two sons, Calvin Kluess of Fort White and Steven Kluess of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Emma McNish
ALACHUA -- Emma McNish of Alachua died Sept. 9 at her home after a long illness. She was 76.
Mrs. McNish was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Alachua.
Mrs. McNish was a member of the Mother's Board, Deaconess Ministry, Women's Home Mission and Sunday school class at St. Mary's Baptist Church, where she was a devotional leader. She was also a member of the Suwannee River Association Union No. 2.
Survivors include four sons, Leroy Jackson, Willie Rhodes and the Rev. Dan McNish, all of Alachua, and Theodis McNish of Newberry; five daughters, Evelyn Daniels and Lorraine Brady, both of Alachua, Donna McNish-Dasilva of Valdosta, Ga., and Evangelist Pauline Dillard and Evangelist Mozell London, both of Gainesville; 50 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Robert Walker McQuiston
ALACHUA - Robert Walker McQuiston of Alachua died Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. He was 83.
He was a retired salesman for Ford Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. in Memphis, Tenn. He was born in Shelby County, Tenn., and moved from Memphis to Alachua four years ago.
Mr. McQuiston was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alachua, the Park Avenue Masonic Lodge No. 362 F&AM;, the Shriners, and was a past president of the Toastmasters Club in Memphis.
Survivors include his wife, Jettie Jackson McQuiston of Alachua; two daughters, Laurie McQuiston of Norcross, Ga., and June Sneed of Memphis; two sons, Michael McQuiston of Jacksonville and Richard McQuiston of Santa Rosa; four grandchildren; and one stepgrandson.
Mattie Mae Jones Smith
Mattie Mae Jones Smith of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 80.
She was born in Adel, Ga., and moved to Gainesville more than 50 years ago. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Female Protective Society No. 2, the University City Temple No. 900 Elks Organization and the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she was an usher and a member of Stewardess Board and the Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include two stepsons, Charles Smith of Gainesville and Walter Smith of Jacksonville.
Dorothy Carolyn Luther
LEXINGTON, KY. -- Dorothy C. Luther of Lexington, Ky., a former associate professor of nursing at the University of Florida, College of Nursing, died at home Thursday. She was 74.
Born in Melrose, Mass., Miss Luther, who taught in the UF College of Nursing for 17 years before moving to Lexington in 1974, also was an associate professor of nursing at the University of Kentucky.
Survivors include two stepsisters and a stepbrother.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends ask that donations be made to the Dorothy M. Smith Endowment, UF College of Nursing.
Mary Elizabeth Dupree
OLD TOWN -- Mary Elizabeth Dupree of Old Town died Thursday at home after a long illness. She was 47.
Born in Brockton, Mass., Mrs. Dupree moved to Old Town from New York six years ago. She was a clerk at a Fanning Springs motel.
She was a member of Fanning Springs Community Mission.
Mrs. Dupree was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Duling.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Dupree of Old Town; six sons, John Conely of Chiefland, Mike and Jimmy Duling of Worchester, Mass., Carl Dupree III and Shayne Dupree of Brockton, Mass., and Eric Dupree of Fanning Springs; two daughters, Stephanie Duling of Old Town, and Shaunna Duling of Worchester, Mass.; three brothers, Ralph Thayer of Brockton, Edward Thayer of Katy, Texas, and Arthur Thayer of Plymouth, Mass.; four sisters, Ruth Shaw and Millie Verrill of Port Smith, N.H., Hazel Lescalleet of Newark, Ohio, and Winnie Hansen of Brockton; and 13 grandchildren.

Minnie A. Gilland
Mrs. Minnie A. Gilland of Gainesville died Friday at home after a long illness. She was 80.
Born in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Gilland moved to Gainesville 54 years ago.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Gilland was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Gainesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. "Peewee" Gilland.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne and Jimmy Gilland, both of Gainesville; three sisters, Sib Mundy, Louise Saumure and Rose Boyd, all of Anniston, Ala.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Willie B. Gilliam
BELL -- Willie B. Gilliam of Bell died Sunday in her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Gilliam was born in Scottsville, Ky., and moved to Bell 37 years ago from Largo. She was a homemaker and a member of Trenton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Wilson P. Gilliam of Bell; one daughter, Ruth Ann Zandanel of Largo; three sons, James E. Gilliam of Chiefland and David F. Gilliam and Joe Gilliam, both of Bell; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
