CEDAR KEY - Roger John Maloney of Cedar Key died Wednesday at his home. He was 83.
Dr. Maloney, an equine veterinary specialist, owned a private veterinary practice. He also taught large-animal surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and was director of experimental animal research at the Temple Health Science Center.
Born in Erie County, Pa., he moved from Moorestown, N.J., to Cedar Key 12 years ago.
He attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Maloney enjoyed boating and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Marguerite "Turner" Maloney of Cedar Key; two sons, Dr. John Roger Maloney of Arlington, Va., and James T. Maloney of Miami; four daughters, Barbara J. Streeper of Palmyra, N.J., Carol A. Rust of Niceville, B. Jane Stewart of West Chester, Pa., and Susan L. Tourtellotte of Haddonfield, N.J.; a brother, Dr. Milton C. Maloney of Fort Myers; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Simon Joseph Register
LIVE OAK - Simon Joseph Register of Live Oak died Saturday in Lake City. He was 75.
Mr. Register was a retired truck driver for a chemical company. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Born in Lake City, he lived most of his life in Live Oak.
Mr. Register was a member of the American Legion Chapter 107.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Register of Pinellas Park and Frank Register of Vero Beach; three daughters, Josie Johns of Satsuma, Wanda Harrington of Live Oak and Laverne Broadus of Theodore, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Vokel Rife
Vokel Rife of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. He was 77.
Mr. Rife was retired from the Log Cabin Nursery in Gainesville.
Born in Pikeville, Ky., he moved from Pikeville to Gainesville 21 years ago.
Survivors include a son, Ben Rife of Gainesville; two brothers, Arnold E. Rife of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Manual Rife of Tribes Hill, N.Y.; and two sisters, Delphia Justice and Ida Gannon, both of Grassy Creek, Ky.
Yvonne Rowan Simpson
LAKE BUTLER - Yvonne Rowan Simpson of Lake Butler died Monday after a long illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Simpson was a retired secretary for Farm Credit Service.
Born in Chattahoochee, she lived most of her life in Lake Butler.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Butler and United Methodist Women's Association.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Simpson of Lake Butler; a daughter, Kay Minshew of Lake Butler; a sister, Betty R. Atkins of Tallahassee; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Artie L. Stine
Artie L. Stine of Gainesville died Saturday at Palm Garden of Gainesville.
She was 92.
Mrs. Stine was a retired clothes buyer and dress shop manager who worked in New York City department stores.
Born in Wick, W.Va., she moved from Margate to Gainesville 19 years ago.
She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Stine was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Stine; and a son, Lester M. Stine.
Survivors include a sister, Sue Pebquin of Youngstown, Ohio; six grandchildren, including George H. Stine of Keystone Heights, and Allen E. Stine and Kenneth P. Stine, both of Gainesville; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Betty L. Sauder
BRONSON - Betty L. Sauder of Bronson died Saturday. She was 70.
Mrs. Sauder was born in Washburn, Ill., and moved to Bronson from Williston in 1994.
Survivors include her mother, Frances Pierce of Okeechobee; her husband, Lloyd Sauder; two sons, Jerry Sauder of Williston and Keith Sauder of Bronson; one brother, Victor Glaub of Hollywood, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Bowman
Carl Bowman of Lake Butler died Saturday at Shands at Starke after a long illness. He was 72.
Mr. Bowman owned and operated Bowman's Grocery in Olustee before retiring.
Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., he lived most of his life in Florida. He moved to Lake Butler 12 years ago.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Griffis of Worthington Springs; a son Carl "Sonny" Bowman Jr. of Union City, Tenn.; a sister, Frances Crews of Georgetown, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
Mavle Thornton Crews
Mavle Thornton Crews died Saturday morning at Shands at AGH after a short illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Crews managed the school lunch room in Union County High School for many years. She later retired from Sunland Training Center in Gainesville.
Born in Baker County, she lived most of her life in Lake Butler.
She belonged to the First Baptist Church of Lake Butler.
Mrs. Crews was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew A. Crews.
Survivors include two daughters, June Ayers and Josephine Peeples, both of Lake Butler; one brother, Dewey Thornton of Lake Butler; two sisters, Wilma Carroll and Melverna Addison, both of Lake Butler; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Helen Gunn Swanbum
Helen Gunn Swanbum of Gainesville died Friday at the Atrium in Gainesville. She was 90.
Mrs. Swanbum was a private secretary for Wurlitzer Co.
Born in Bolivar, Mo., she moved from Melrose to Gainesville 12 years ago.
Mrs. Swanbum belonged to the United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Melrose Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Spence Swanbum.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Schneider of Spring Hill; and several nieces and nephews from across the country.
Nora F. Wroath
Nora F. Wroath of Gainesville died Saturday at the Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 86.
Mrs. Wroath was a homemaker.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved from Miami to Gainesville 10 years ago.
She belonged to the Holy Faith Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, James R. Wroath and Joseph E. Wroath, both of Gainesville; a daughter, Regina E. Cole of Daytona Beach; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
