Jim D. O'Grady

WILLISTON - Jim D. O'Grady of Williston died Sunday in Ocala due to injuries received in an automobile accident. He was 29.

Mr. O'Grady was a cowboy and manager of the O'Grady Ranch in Williston.

Born in Albany, Mo., he moved from Bethany, Mo., to Williston 14 years ago. He was a 1987 graduate of Williston High School.

Survivors include his parents, Garel J. and Ruby Marie O'Grady of Williston; a brother, Bill J. O'Grady of Williston; and three sisters, Bonnie Ann Farnsworth of Darlington, Mo., Kitty Marie Snyder of Grand Valley, Mo., and Patty Joe Cline of Morriston.

Frank Wilson Sr.

Frank "Woody" Wilson Sr. of Evansville, Ind., died Saturday at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was 76.

Mr. Wilson was retired from Swift & Co. in Alcoa, Ind. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Born in Perry, he moved to Evansville several years ago.

He was a member of Baptist Purity Church in Salem, Ind., and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Wilson enjoyed fishing and watching football.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Wilson of Evansville; two daughters; a son; two brothers; a sister, Mabel Baggett of East Palatka; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Heinrich K. Eichhorn

Heinrich K. Eichhorn of Gainesville, the first chairman of the department of astronomy at the University of Florida, died Saturday at his home. He was 71.

Dr. Eichhorn, an astrometrist, previously was chairman of the astronomy department at the University of South Florida in Tampa and was an honorary professor at Vienna and Graz, both in Austria. He also authored an astronomy book.

"What he did was bring positional astronomy - mapping the location of stars in the sky - into the computer age, " said Haywood Smith, associate professor of astronomy at UF. Dr. Eichhorn developed exact statistical formulas that are put into a computer to make determining stars' positions in the sky easier, Smith said.

Born in Vienna, , Austria, he moved to Gainesville 20 years ago.

He received his doctorate in astronomy from the University of Vienna and recently was awarded an honorary doctorate of astronomy from Pulkovo Observatory in Russia. He later become a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Science.

He was a chairman of the Division on Dynamical Astronomy of the American Astronomical Society and was president of the Commission on Positional Astronomy of the International Astronomical Union.

He was interested in classical music, tropical fish and philosophy, and he spoke German, French and Czech.

He also has an asteroid named for him.

Survivors include his wife, Eva L. Eichhorn of Gainesville; a son, Ron Eichhorn of Tampa; three daughters, Giga Eichhorn of Tacoma, Wash., Ami Krenzel of Seattle, and Nelli Maceina of Auburn, Ala.; two stepsons, Tomas Horak of Germany and Daniel Horak of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.

Johanna Christina Archer

STARKE - Johanna Christina Archer of Starke died unexpectedly Monday at her home. She was 54.

Mrs. Archer was a certified nursing assistant.

Born in New York City, she moved from Miami to Starke 16 years ago.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Emory Archer of Starke; a daughter, Johanna Prevatt of Raiford; two sons, Russell Manz of Keystone Heights and Daniel Manz of Starke; her mother, Tanny Klootwyk of Williston; a sister, Elizabeth Consiglio of Indiana;dk city and 11 grandchildren.

Earl Ray Batten

STARKE - Earl Ray Batten of Starke died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 72.

Mr. Batten was a retired maintenance worker at DuPont Co. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Born in Clay County, he moved to Starke 51 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Louise Padgett Batten of Starke; a daughter, Linda Baldree of Starke; a sister, Anna Fender of Starke; and two grandchildren.

Earlton R. Benton

BROOKER - Earlton R. Benton of Brooker died Monday at Shands at Starke after an apparent heart attack. He was 65.

Mr. Benton was a retired correctional officer at North Florida Reception Center in Lake Butler. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Born in Hague, he lived most of his life in Alachua and Bradford counties.

Mr. Benton was a member of New River Baptist Church in Brooker.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Taylor Benton of Brooker; four daughters, Judy Gray, Cathy Bass and Beth Lindsey, all of Brooker, and Kathy Moore of Hawthorne; five sons, Ricky Benton of Cross Creek, Danny Benton and Quinn Holton, both of Brooker, Timmy Holton of Niverville, N.Y., and Terry Holton of Greenup, Ill.; a brother, Richard Benton of Interlachen; two sisters, Rosa Jones of Brooker and Earlene Rogers of LaCrosse; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Claudia Nobles Deschamps

HAWTHORNE - Claudia Nobles Deschamps of Hawthorne died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 89.

Mrs. Deschamps was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Born in Melrose, she moved from Key West to Hawthorne 29 years ago.

Survivors include three nieces and four nephews.

Lois Estelle Jones

TRENTON - Lois Estelle Jones of Trenton died Sunday at Hospice House in Gainesville. She was 86.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Trenton.

Born in Culman County, Ala., she moved from Immokalee to Trenton 71 years ago.

She enjoyed gardening and tending flowers.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Jones.

Survivors include a son, Elmer Jones of Newberry; two daughters, Betty Jenkins and Mildred Culpepper, both of Trenton; a sister, Cora White of La Belle; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

John C. Keller

LAKE CITY - John C. Keller of Lake City died Sunday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City after a long illness. He was 72.

Mr. Keller was a retired purchasing agent at Qualex Photo Finishing in Orlando. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later in the U.S. Air Force.

Born in Winter Garden, he moved from Winter Garden to Lake City nine years ago.

He was a member of Quail Heights Country Club Golf Club and the Huntsville Baptist Church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, yard work and polka dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma J. Keller of Lake City; a son, John F. Keller of Lake City; a daughter, Marilyn S. Atwell of Allentown, Pa.; a brother, Ralph Keller of Portland, Ore.; four sisters, Lucille Hodges and Inez Darling, both of Portland, Bernice Cunningham of Ocala and Carol Ann Justice of Orlando; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Stephen Albert Kelley Jr.

BELL - Stephen Albert Kelley Jr. of Bell died of a heart attack Friday at a friend's home in in Bell. He was 60.

Mr. Kelley was a retired boilermaker and a mechanic.

Born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., he moved from Orange Heights to Bell 12 years ago.

He was a member of Priscilla Baptist Church.

Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Kelley III and Jerry Peth; and a daughter, Theresa Kelley.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Kelley of Bell; a son, John Peth of Hickory, N.C.; two daughters, Stephanie Parrish of Auburndale and Michelle Robison of Graceville; his mother, Hattie Kelley of Lakeland; three brothers, William Kelley of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Kelley of Polk City and Jerry Kelley of Lakeland; three sisters, Josephine McKissick of Auburndale, and Susan Kelley and Katie Kelley, both of Lakeland; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
