Pauline J. Bews

WILLISTON - Pauline J. Bews of Williston died Thursday in Lecanto after a long illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Bews was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Born in Geneva, N.Y., she moved from Clearwater to Williston seven years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald J. Bews of Williston and John H. Bews of Waverly; a daughter, Patricia Ann Jones of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Chester Frank Dougherty

ORANGE HEIGHTS - Chester Frank Dougherty of Orange Heights died Thursday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. He was 84.

Mr. Dougherty retired from Tacachale as a painter.

He was a lifelong resident of Orange Heights.

Mr. Dougherty was a member of Orange Heights Baptist Church.

He enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Dougherty was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Dougherty; and a daughter, Susie Sellers.

Survivors include five daughters, Viola Yates of Statesville, N.C., Anne Thigpen of Orange Heights, Dorothy Byrd and Debbie Granger, both of Waldo, and Grace Narron of Daleville, Ala.; four sons, Bud Dougherty and Harry Dougherty, both of Waldo, and George Dougherty and Clark Dougherty, both of Orange Heights; a brother, Earl Dougherty of Orange Heights; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Reid Hopwood

McINTOSH - Mary Elizabeth Reid "Betty" Hopwood of McIntosh died Monday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. She was 75.

Mrs. Hopwood was a retired bookkeeper.

Born in Cleveland, she moved from Cleveland to McIntosh 26 years ago.

She was a member of Daughters of Scotia, a member and treasurer of McIntosh Presbyterian Church and was past president of Ladies Auxiliary of the Order of Scottish Clans and was a charter member of the Friends of McIntosh.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest E. Hopwood of McIntosh; two daughters, Donna Johnstone and Alison Doherty, both of Cleveland; two sons, William Hopwood and James Hopwood, both of Cleveland; and six grandchildren.

Alice Elaine Hunter

FORT WHITE - Alice Elaine Hunter of Fort White died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She was 72.

Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was a lifelong resident of Fort White.

Survivors include three sons, Wilbert J. Hunter and Chris Hunter, both of Fort White, and Gary Hunter of Gainesville; two daughters, Lisa Swartz of Fort White and Kim Everett of Live Oak; a sister, Carole Hollingsworth of High Springs; a brother, John Deal of High Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John G. Morris Jr.

OTTER CREEK - John G. Morris Jr. of Otter Creek died Wednesday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston after a long illness. He was 30.

Mr. Morris was a security guard for Wells Fargo.

Born in Cuba, he lived most of his life in Otter Creek.

He enjoyed racing, fishing, cars and sports.

Mr. Morris was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen M. Morris of Otter Creek; a daughter, Chrissy Morris of Otter Creek; his parents, John Gilbert Sr. and Mary Alice Morris of Otter Creek; three sisters, Kim Osteen and Sissy Moore, both of Otter Creek, and Sherri Len "Peanut" Grigartis of Interlachen; and his paternal grandmother, Ferrell Morris of Otter Creek.

Harry Stewart

Harry Stewart of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 80.

Mr. Stewart was a retired research engineer for Pittsburgh Consolidated Coal Co. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Born in Tarentum, Pa., he moved from New Port Richey to Gainesville seven years ago.

He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Alachua.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret J. Stewart.

Survivors include a son, Ed Stewart of Alachua; a daughter, Jane Ruano of Gainesville; a brother, Gene Stewart of Sarver, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sally Jo Risinger Jones

Sally Jo Risinger Jones of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 62.

Mrs. Jones formerly co-owned and operated Rex's Bakery, formerly Ken's Bakery.

Born in Hartford City, Ind., she moved from Hartford City to Gainesville 36 years ago.

She was a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband, Rex C. Jones of Gainesville; a daughter, Susan Jones Stewart of Gainesville; two sons, Rex K.B. Jones of Lakeland and Scott C. Jones of Gainesville; her mother, Doris Cady Risinger of Gainesville; a brother, Robert K. Risinger of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.

Anna Rose Bruce

Anna Rose Bruce of Gainesville died Monday at her home after a long illness. She was 7 months old.

She was born in Gainesville.

Anna was a Methodist.

Survivors include her parents, Thomas Anthony Bruce III and Sue Ellen Persinger Bruce of Windsor; a sister, Nira Bradfield of Windsor; a brother, Darrell T. Bruce of Windsor; her maternal grandmother, Cheryl E. Bogner of Manchester, Ga., her maternal grandfather, Dave H. Persinger of Crystal River; her paternal grandmother, Edith C. Bruce of Gainesville; and her maternal great-grandmother, Peggy J. Alexander of Manchester.

Juanita S. Coleman

Juanita S. Coleman of Gainesville died Monday at her home after a long illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Coleman was a retired librarian.

Born in Ocala, she moved from Alachua to Gainesville 50 years ago.

She graduated from Florida A&M; University in Tallahassee.

Mrs. Coleman was a member of Visionaries, Alachua County Retired Teachers Association and Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Frank D. Coleman Jr. of Jacksonville; a sister, Wieda Marsh of Ocala; a brother, Emanuel Stewart of St. Petersburg; and two grandchildren.
