Howard Raymond Morris
Howard Raymond Morris of Davie died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida after an extended illness. He was 53.
Mr. Morris was a former construction worker who loved fishing and hunting. He was Baptist.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Chambers of Williston; and two brothers, Edward Morris of Williston and Leon Morris of Davie.
Howard H. Murdock
MOUNT DORA - Howard H. Murdock of Mount Dora died Sunday at Waterman Village in Mount Dora.
He was 79.
Born in Fall River, Mass., Mr. Murdock moved to Florida in 1983 from Westfield, Mass.
He was a retired engineer with 42 years of service with General Electric in Westfield and Lynnfield, Mass.
Mr. Murdock was an Episcopalian. He was a member of the Mason Lodge and Elks Lodge in Lynnfield.
His survivors include his wife, Harriette M. Murdock of Mount Dora; three sons, including Douglas R. Murdock of Gainesville, Richard A. Murdock of Westfield, Mass., and Scott H. Murdock of Suffield, Conn.; a daughter, Leslie A. Longacre of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, Alen Murdock of Milton, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
James Preston Rimes
CROSS CREEK - James Preston Rimes of Cross Creek died Sunday at Shands at AGH of heart failure.
He was 66.
Mr. Rimes was school bus driver with Alachua County schools.
He was a past owner of several convenience stores in Cross Creek and Georgia.
Born in Bacon County, Ga., he moved to Cross Creek from Alma, Ga., in 1979.
He was a member of Cross Creek Baptist Church, and he enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Sherer Rimes of Cross Creek; a son, Jimmy Rimes Jr. of McDonough, Ga.; three daughters, Sherry Stirrat of Gainesville, Kim Henley of Ocala and Jennie Boatrightcq of Alma, Ga.; two brothers, Billy Rimes of Fernandina Beach and Carrolcq Rimes of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Lucille Johnson of Alma, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Annie Gene Sheppard
TRENTON - Annie Gene Sheppard of Trenton died Sunday in her home.
She was 77.
Mrs. Sheppard was born in Levy County and moved to Trenton from Williston 64 years ago.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and fishing
Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Sheppard, and a daughter, Mary M. Langford-Cochran.
Survivors include two sisters, Sara Lois Roberts of Hart Springs and Alice Louise Sparkman of Waccasassa; longtime companion, J.D. Adams of Trenton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Alice Fern Walsh
CHIEFLAND - Alice Fern Walsh of Chiefland died Sunday at her granddaughter's home in Chiefland.
She was 90.
Mrs. Walsh was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and moved to Chiefland from Homestead in 1989.
She was a retired cashier and homemaker. Mrs. Walsh was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Chiefland Veterans of Foreign Wars post, and was a member of the Tri-County Senior Citizens Club and Concord Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three of her children.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Roberson and Frances Rippy, both of Chiefland, and Mickey Rhodes of Hamilton, Ohio; three sons, Joseph Goins of Hamilton, Ohio, and George Goins and Jimmy Goins, both of Chiefland; 35 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Jason Eugene Baxley
TRENTON - Jason Eugene Baxley of Trenton died Friday at his home. He was 22.
Mr. Baxley was a home technician.
He was born in Tampa and moved from Plant City to Trenton seven years ago.
Mr. Baxley attended the Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Baxley of Fanning Springs; a son, Michael Allen Wilcox of Fanning Springs; his parents, Charles and Patsy Rewis of Old Town; a sister, Lisa Suggs of Old Town; his paternal grandmother, Carolyn Rewis of Old Town; and his maternal grandmother, Patricia Suggs of Plant City.
Maude Walker Bradley
FORT WHITE - Maude Walker Bradley of Fort White died Tuesday at her home after a long illness. She was 75.
Mrs. Bradley was a former administrative assistant at Shands Radiology Department.
She was born in Mayo and moved from Gainesville to Fort White six years ago.
Mrs. Bradley was a member of the Elim Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, George Bradley of Fort White; three sons, Mike Bradley and Ben Bradley, both of Jacksonville, and Mitt Bradley of Fort White; a daughter, Jane Walker of Atlanta; two brothers, Vaughn Walker and Dave Walker, both of Mayo; two sisters, Tessie Byrd of Branford and Pat Bradley of Fort White; and three grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice or to Alzheimer's Association.
Verna Mae Langford Hodge
CHIEFLAND - Verna Mae Langford Hodge of Chiefland died Tuesday at her home. She was 60.
Mrs. Langford was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was born in Gilchrist County and moved from Alachua to Chiefland 30 years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert Hodge of Chiefland; a daughter, Lawanna Sue Hodge of Chiefland; a son, Brynard Lurmar Hodge Sr. of Chiefland; her mother, L.E. Langford Douglas of Trenton; her stepfather, Council Douglas of Gilchrist County; two sisters, Reatha Langford Hayes of Gilchrist County and Freddie Mae O'Steen Black of Trenton; seven grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ralph O. Hilliard
LAKE CITY - Ralph O. Hilliard of Lake City died Sunday at the Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness. He was 72.
Mr. Hilliard was a retired glazier, having specialized in glass installation. He also was a radio operator in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was born in Lakeland and moved to Lake City 12 years ago.
Mr. Hilliard was a Catholic.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 57 and enjoyed reading, working with wood and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Gary R. Hilliard of San Mateo and Ronald O. Hilliard of Lake Worth; three daughters, Susan Gorman of Havana, Cynthia Ham of Jacksonville and Tamatha C. Fellerman of Tacoma, Wash.; a brother, I.J. Hilliard of Orlando; a sister, Sarah "Catherine" O'Neal of Bartow; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
