Minnie Lee Lyons of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 85.
Mrs. Lyons was a homemaker.
Born in Chiefland, she moved from Chiefland to Gainesville 45 years ago.
Mrs. Lyons was a member of the Zeta Amica Club, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Northeast Eagle Eye Neighborhood Crime Watch, Womens Home Mission, the Eighth Division Ministers and Deacons Union and Johnson Chapel Baptist Church.
She was president and member of the church's choir No. 1, was the treasurer of the Help and Aid Convention, directress of Nurture for the Baptist Church and was past queen of the Women's Convention.
Survivors include a stepson, Dr. Henry Lyons of St. Petersburg; and her caregivers, Charlie and Cora Roberson of Gainesville.
Wylie Martin
CHICAGO - Wylie Martin of Chicago died Feb. 14 in Chicago after a short illness. He was 60.
Mr. Martin was a hospital employee.
He was born in High Springs, graduated from the Alachua County school system with honors and moved to Chicago 14 years ago.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Martin of Gainesville; a daughter, Lanorris Martin of Gainesville; three step-daughters, including Roniese Wright and Shannon Martin, both of Gainesville; a stepson, Lynden Strowder of Macclenny; three brothers; six sisters; and several grandchildren.
Willie Scott Sr.
Willie Scott Sr. of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida after a long illness. He was 90.
Mr. Scott was a retired construction worker and a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
Survivors include three sons, Willie James Scott of West Palm Beach, Eugene Scott and Gene Scott, both of Gainesville; three daughters, Willie M. Lillie, Dorothy Mackperson and Barbara Livingston, all of Gainesville; 38 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Willis Henry Wesper
Willis Henry Wesper of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was 82.
Lt. Cmdr. Wesper was a retired U.S. Navy officer who served during World War II.
Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Cape Coral for 20 years before moving to Gainesville 14 years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lucille Wesper of Gainesville; a son, Bill Wesper of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Lynch of San Jose, Calif., and Christine Schanck of Clearwater; a brother; two sisters; and seven grandchildren.
Helen Frances Buterbaugh Barber
CROSS CITY - Helen Frances Buterbaugh Barber of Cross City died Wednesday at her home. She was 56.
Mrs. Barber was a bookkeeper and head cashier at Piggly Wiggly in Cross City.
Born in Ocala, she moved from Ocala to Cross City 19 years ago.
Mrs. Barber was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Tipping of Fort White and Missy Messner of Crawfordville; her father and stepmother, Luster and Leona Buterbaugh of Jacksonville; three brothers, John Joseph Hall of Belleview, John Allen Hall of Ocala and Charles Buterbaugh of Jacksonville; a sister, Elizabeth Perryman of Ocala; and five grandchildren.
Zetta Irene Berry
Zetta Irene Berry of Gainesville died Thursday in Gainesville. She was 92.
Mrs. Berry was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Kentucky.
Born in Rineyville, Ky., she moved from Pensacola to Gainesville six years ago.
Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Berry; and a daughter, Catherine Louise Berry.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Senterfitt of Gainesville; a son, Floyd Berry of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy E. Birkett
Dorothy E. Birkett of Gainesville died Saturday at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg after a brief illness. She was 86.
Mrs. Birkett was a homemaker and a former volunteer for St. Johns Ambulance in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
Born in Brantford, she moved to Gainesville 41 years ago.
Mrs. Birkett was a member of the Highlands Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Keith Birkett of Gainesville, Ron Birkett of Seminole and Fred Birkett of Elverson, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Cecil Julius Kahlich
HIGH SPRINGS - Cecil Julius Kahlich of High Springs died Thursday at his home. He was 92.
Mr. Kahlich formerly owned Kahlich Thriftway in High Springs.
Born in Wacissa, he moved from Mayo to High Springs 81 years ago.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of High Springs.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Kahlich Amburn of Lake City; a son, Richard Kahlich of Lake City; four sisters, Carrie Vaughn of High Springs, Eileen Singletary and Louise Thomas, both of Gainesville, and Gladys Chapman of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Edward H. Kennedy
LIVE OAK - Edward H. Kennedy of Live Oak died Monday at the Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness. He was 79.
Mr. Kennedy was a mechanic. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Born in Lawrenceville, Tenn., he moved from Peoria, Ill., to Live Oak 19 years ago.
Mr. Kennedy was a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Edward Leon Kennedy of Mountain Grove, Mo.; four sisters, Vaudia Bailey of Rainsville, Ala., Vida Moorhead of McAlpin, Judy Holdrum and Dorothy Jordan, both of Live Oak; two brothers, Hosey Kennedy of Lampasas, Texas, and Melvin Kennedy of Peoria; and seven granddaughters.
Rosemary Anderson Bednarek
Rosemary Anderson Bednarek of Gainesville died Wednesday at her home after a long illness. She was 63.
Mrs. Bednarek was a registered nurse at Shands at AGH. She was also formerly involved in underwater research for the University of Florida.
Born in Charleston, W.Va., she moved from Akron, Ohio, to Gainesville 35 years ago.
Mrs. Bednarek was a member of the University Women's Club, the Gainesville Garden Club and the Gainesville Barnacle Busters.
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Alexander R. Bednarek of Gainesville; four sons, Robert A. Bednarek of Greenwich, Conn., Andrew R. Bednarek of Washington, D.C., Thomas C. Bednarek and Eugene P. Bednarek, both of Gainesville; a brother, Charles Anderson of Lubbock, Texas; and five grand- children.
Lindsey Harold Bowman
HAWTHORNE - Lindsey Harold Bowman of Hawthorne died Jan. 28 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 51.
Mr. Bowman was a beef lugger at a meat house.
He was born in St. Joseph, Mo., and moved from Tampa to Hawthorne seven years ago.
Mr. Bowman was a Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors include his wife, Terry L. Bowman of Hawthorne; three sons, Lindsey Van Rue Bowman of North Carolina,dkcity Kenneth Ray Bowman of Hawthorne and Jeffrey Allen Bowman of Tampa; a daughter, Lori Ann Bowman Bischoff of Ocala; two brothers, Arthur Lee Bowman of Maysville, Mo., and Arthur Van Rue Bowman of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Edith Mace and Nancy May McGinnis, both of Trenton, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
