Roy O. Burgess
Roy O. Burgess of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
The Rev. Burgess retired as minister of Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic, N.C., and was a minister at Wanchese United Methodist Church in North Carolina and churches in Florida.
Born in East Templeton, Mass., he moved from Atlantic, N.C., to Gainesville 19 years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys E. Burgess of Gainesville; a son, Robert W. Burgess of Westport, Conn.; a daughter, Carol J. Sanford of Gainesville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Vera D. Jones
Vera D. Jones of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH. She was 91.
Mrs. Jones retired as a practical nurse from Sunland Training Center, now Tacachale.
Born in Cowden, Ill., she moved from Neoga, Ill., to Gainesville 46 years ago.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Oak Park Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Henry Jones; and a son, Robert Jones.
Survivors include two sons, Bill J. Jones of Mattoon, Ill., and Charles I. Jones of Tuscola, Ill.; two daughters, Louise Wilson of Gainesville and Anita Thompson of Windsor; a brother, Kenneth Scoles of Aloha, Ore.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Eloise Cabe Leatherman
Eloise Cabe Leatherman of Gainesville died Sunday at Hospice House of Gainesville. She was 73.
Mrs. Leatherman was a homemaker and a graduate of Cecil's Business College in Asheville, N.C.
Born in Sylva, N.C., she moved from Palm Bay to Gainesville three months ago.
Mrs. Leatherman enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Palm Bay United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Leatherman.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie S.L. Hussey of Newberry and Jan M.L. Perry of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Sue Ellen Cabe and Carrie B. Poss, both of Sylva; and four grandchildren.

Clinton Orville McKinney
STARKE - Clinton Orville McKinney of Starke died Monday at Shands at Starke after a brief illness. He was 74.
Mr. McKinney was a retired engineer for CSX Railroad and was formerly employed by ACL and SCL railroads. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Born in Hawkinsville, Ga., he moved to the Starke area 25 years ago.
Mr. McKinney was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, the Callahan Masonic Lodge No. 22 F&AM;, the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry in Jacksonville, the York Rite of Freemasonry James Yeager Chapter No. 62 in Lawtey, the Morocco Temple in Jacksonville, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janet Davis McKinney of Starke; two daughters, Deborah Johnson of Jacksonville and Victoria Bartholf of Fort Riley, Kan.; a son, Benjamin J. McKinney Sr. of Starke; a brother, Henry Blackwell of Jacksonville; two sisters, Jean Carroll and Ruth Tuten, both of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Frank J. Miles
Frank J. Miles of Gainesville died Monday at Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 79.
Mr. Miles was a retired managing partner for Purvis Gray and Co.
Born in Turners Falls, Mass., he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and moved to Gainesville 53 years ago.
Mr. Miles, a graduate of the University of Florida, was a member of the University of Florida Grand Old Guard, the Rotary Club, the Gainesville Golf and Country Club and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Reed Miles of Gainesville; two sons, Frank J. Miles Jr. of San Francisco and Mike Miles of Bradenton; and one grandson.
Callie Hillhouse Patrick
CLEARWATER - Callie Hillhouse Patrick of Clearwater died Monday in Clearwater after a long illness. She was 83.
Mrs. Patrick was a former custodian.
Born in McAlpin, she moved to Clearwater last year.
Mrs. Patrick was a member of the McAlpin Homemakers Extension Club and the Live Oak Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Fennell of Bowling Green and James Fennell of McAlpin; five daughters, Shirley Giebeig and Lawanna McConnell, both of Lake City, Barbara Parks of Clearwater, Marilyn Kasno of Salem, S.C., and Faye Ridge of Fort Lauderdale; a brother, Milton Hillhouse of Satellite Beach; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Willie Mae Player
Willie Mae Player of Gainesville died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Player was a homemaker.
Born in High Springs, she moved from High Springs to Gainesville 62 years ago.
Mrs. Player was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the S. Marion Weeks Club, the W.M. Ferguson Circle and the IBPOE-Elks Lodge of West University City Temple No. 900.
Survivors include three sons, Earl D. Howard of Washington, D.C., and Denifield W. Player and Chester F. Player, both of Gainesville; a sister, Blanche Willis of Aberdeen, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Roger Anderson Wiggins
HIGH SPRINGS - Roger Anderson Wiggins of High Springs died Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 63.
Mr. Wiggins was a clerk in a hardware store. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Born in Lake City, he was a lifelong resident of the area.
Mr. Wiggins was a member of the First United Methodist Church of High Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Wiggins of High Springs; two daughters, Deborah Etchenique of High Springs and Regina Hines of Newberry; his mother, Rena Wiggins of High Springs; two brothers, David Wiggins of Gainesville and Gene Wiggins of Jacksonville; a sister, Melba O'Brien of High Springs; and five grandchildren.
Farris Fowler
BELL - Farris Fowler of Bell died Sunday in his home. He was 71.
Mr. Fowler was born in Trenton and was a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County. He was in the U.S. Marines, was a farmer and was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Page of Bell; one son, Michael Fowler of Bell; two sisters, Geraline Martin of Bell and Sue Boyd of Bell; and two grandchildren.

Mary Clay Wilson Grimes
Mary Clay Wilson Grimes of Hawthorne died Sunday in the Oaks Nursing Home in Gainesville. She was 96.
Mrs. Grimes was born in Carlisle, Ky., and moved to Hawthorne from Jacksonville 30 years ago. She was a homemaker and owner of Grimes Theatre Screen Service and Print Shop in Jacksonville and Hawthorne. Mrs. Grimes was a member of Lynnwood Christian Church in Jacksonville and attended Eden Baptist Church in Hawthorne. After retiring she lived with her son and his family at Cedar Valley Ranch in Hawthorne.
Mrs. Grimes was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Grimes. Survivors include two sons, Jack P. Grimes of Hawthorne and Ronald Eugene Grimes of Tifton, Ga.; two sisters, Hazel Wilson Biddle and Clarine Wilson Mitchell, both of Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
James H. Whitehead
James H. Whitehead of Gainesville died Saturday at his home following an illness. He was 80.
Mr. Whitehead was born in Flat River, Mo., and moved to Gainesville in 1959 from Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was an insurance agent, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Elks Lodge 990 in Gainesville and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth N. Whitehead of Gainesville; son Michael J. Whitehead of Gainesville; four granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
