Audrey R. Avery
BRANFORD - Audrey R. Avery of Branford died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 71.
Mrs. Avery was a retired school janitor.
She was born in Bell and was a lifelong resident of Branford.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Avery enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Avery of Branford; four sons, Howard Thomas of Brooksville, Harold Thomas of Tipton, Okla., Mike Thomas of Tampa and Hugh Thomas of Trenton; a daughter, Darlene Smith of Rosewood; three brothers, Lex Roberts of Live Oak, S.A. Roberts of Chiefland and Henry L. Roberts of Lutz; four sisters, Gwen Polk of Newberry, Pansy Suggs of Archer, Virginia McDonald of Doctors Inlet and Mary O'Steen of High Springs; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Treva Gayle Crouch
WILLISTON - Treva Gayle Crouch of Williston died Tuesday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 54.
Mrs. Crouch was a housekeeper for airport maintenance.
She was born in Spencer, Ind., and moved from Gulfport to Williston two years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Crouch Sr. of Williston; two sons, Carl Crouch Jr. of Gulfport and Jesse Crouch of St. Petersburg; a daughter, Angela Stauff of Williston; two brothers, Fred Babbs of Spencer and Bimmie Babbs of Gosport, Ind.; five sisters, Betsy Riggs, Judy Dunning, Shirley Johnson, Joe Cheeseman and Madonna Meyers, all of Indiana; and two granddaughters.
Virginia Miller Major
ST. PETERSBURG - Virginia Miller Major of St. Petersburg died Wednesday at Palms of Pasadena. She was 87.
Mrs. Major was born in Lake Butler and moved to St. Petersburg 39 years ago.
She was a member of the Pasadena Community United Methodist Church, Pasadena Woman's Club, Phi Mu Sorority, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Major was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Major.
Survivors include three nieces, Virginia Miller Fettes and Marilyn Miller Bishop, both of Gainesville, and Rosalyn Miller of Portland, Ore.; and a nephew, Charles Jackson Miller of Gainesville.
Leonard Coleman McElhenny
STARKE - Leonard Coleman McElhenny of Starke died Thursday at Orange Park Medical Center after a long illness. He was 62.
Mr. McElhenny was a correctional officer at Union Correctional Institution. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Born in Jacksonville, he moved from Jacksonville to Starke 20 years ago.
Mr. McElhenny was a member of the Morgan Road Baptist Church in Starke.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Williams McElhenny of Starke; a daughter, Marsha D. Dudderar of Ocala; two sons, Leonard Neal McElhenny of Worthington Springs and Justin Troy McElhenny of Starke; his mother, Flora McElhenny of Jacksonville; a sister, Virginia Losco of Jacksonville; a brother, Samuel Luther McElhenny Jr. of Murphy, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Mary Evelyn Boyer Moore
LAWTEY - Mary Evelyn Boyer Moore of Lawtey died Thursday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville after a short illness. She was 93.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and a member of the Starke First Baptist Church. She was born in Boardman and moved from Baldwin to Lawtey 73 years ago.
Survivors include five daughters, Ernestine Thomas of Live Oak, Barbara Casey and Ann Andrews, both of Starke, Gayle Todor of Ormond Beach and Reeney Houseman of Jacksonville; five sons, Fred Moore Jr. of Homestead, Jim Moore of White Springs, R.C. Moore of Cooper City, Mickey Moore of Lawtey and Dean Moore of Starke; a brother, David Boyer of Lynne; a sister, Jewel Wade of Brandon; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Starke.
Luigi Samuel Palmieri
OLD TOWN - Luigi Samuel "Lou" Palmieri of Old Town died Wednesday at his home. He was 68.
Mr. Palmieri was a glazier.
He was born in Trenton, N.J., and moved from Clermont to Old Town four years ago.
Mr. Palmieri was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Palmieri of Old Town; a son, Robert Richards of Orlando; two daughters, Kaye Ramierz of Leesburg and Linda Whitehouse of Bordentown, N.J.; a brother, Frank Palmieri of Jackson, N.J.; two sisters, Ginny Palmieri and Mary Batties, both of Whiting, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Jewell A. Rountree
Jewell A. Rountree of Gainesville died Feb. 5 at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Rountree was a former physical education teacher.
She was born in Pocahontas, Tenn., received a physical education degree from Henderson State Teacher's College in Arkadelphia, Ark., and moved from Denver to Gainesville 48 years ago.
She was a member of the Gainesville Garden Club's Gladiola Circle and the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, where she taught Sunday school.
Mrs. Rountree was preceded in death by her husband, Steed Rountree; and a son, Steed D. Rountree.
She traveled with her family as a volunteer for Campers on Mission, repairing churches in the Southeast United States.
Although Mrs. Rountree couldn't speak for the last 11 years of her life after a stroke, she was still able to express her enthusiasm for life and enjoyed communicating with her numerous friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Nell How of Indian Hills, Colo., and Judy Ann Tower of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Dan M. Rountree of Gainesville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Norma Beryl Taylor Brower
Norma Beryl Taylor Brower of Gainesville died Wednesday at her daughter's home in Gainesville. She was 88.
Mrs. Brower was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
She attended the Westwood Hills Church of God and the church's group Prime Timers.
Mrs. Brower was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart L. Brower; and a daughter, Betty Jean Brower.
Survivors include five daughters, Kay B. White, Mary B. Windham, Margie B. Palmer and Sara B. Painter, all of Gainesville, and Joy B. Knight of Ozello; four sons, Howard L. Brower, Dale D. Brower and John H.E. Brower, all of Gainesville, and Charles E. Brower of Gulf Breeze; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Zeatrice C. Cannon
CHIEFLAND - Zeatrice C. Cannon of Chiefland died Tuesday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. She was 84.
Mrs. Cannon was retired from the meat department at A&P.;
She was born in Chiefland and moved from Daytona Beach back to Chiefland 25 years ago.
Mrs. Cannon was a member of the Manatee Springs Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sisters, Beatrice Cason of Chiefland and Grace Jones of Live Oak; two brothers, W.L. "Joe" Cannon and G.C. Cannon, both of Chiefland.
Freddie Mae Williams Coles
Freddie Mae Williams Coles of Gainesville died Monday at The Oaks Residential and Rehab Center after a long illness. She was 83.
Mrs. Coles was a retired beautician.
She was born in Bronson and moved from Micanopy to Gainesville about 50 years ago.
Mrs. Coles was a member of the Mount Olive A.M.E. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Andrew Coles.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara Turner of Philadelphia; and a brother, George Williams of Seattle.
