Victor E. DeVeer

OLD TOWN - Victor E. DeVeer of Old Town died Wednesday at his home.

Mr. DeVeer was an electrician. He was retired from the nuclear power plant in Crystal River and retired from the KLM Dutch Airlines as a pilot. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.

Born in Indonesia, he received an engineering degree in Holland. He moved from Morriston to Old Town 13 years ago.

Mr. DeVeer was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Williston and the Church of Christ in Old Town.

He spoke five languages.

Survivors include his wife, Doretha DeVeer of Old Town; two daughters, Vicki Savoy of Louisiana and Elaine Weeks of Kildeer, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Loutrenda Slaughter of Wilcox; two brothers, Arnold DeVeer of Pensacola and Renee DeVeer of California; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Edna James Helton

Edna James Helton of Gainesville died Thursday at her home. She was 76.

Mrs. Helton was a homemaker.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., she moved from Charlotte to Gainesville 37 years ago.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Helton of Layton, Utah; a brother, Earl J. James of Tega Cay, S.C.; two sisters, Katherine Willeen Henderson of Gainesville and Joyce J. Wilkinson of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Willis A. Hodges

LAKE BUTLER - Willis A. Hodges of Lake Butler died Thursday at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care Center in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 71.

Mr. Hodges was a retired farmer.

Born in Charlton County, Ga., he moved to Lake Butler 30 years ago.

Mr. Hodges was a member of the Church of God of Lake Butler.

Survivors include his wife, Zona Jeanette Cowart Hodges of Folkston, Ga.; a daughter, Marlena Lynn Hodges of Sevierville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Myrtice Conner of St. George and Marie Conner of Hilliard.

Geet Wilson Morris Jr.

MICANOPY - Geet Wilson Morris Jr. of Micanopy died Thursday in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was 50.

Mr. Morris was a machinist for Stewart and Associates in Gainesville.

Born in Huntsville, Ala., he moved from Huntsville to Micanopy nine years ago.

Mr. Morris was a member of the Gainesville Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Dykes Morris of Gainesville; a sister, Evelyn Wetherington of Interlachen; two nieces, Anne Fosser of Gainesville and Debbie Sadler, both of Gainesville; and two nephews, including Donnie Wetherington of Palatka.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Children's Miracle Network c/o Shands in Gainesville.

Evelyn I. Talbott

HIGH SPRINGS - Evelyn I. Talbott of High Springs died Thursday at her home after a long illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Talbott was a former dental assistant.

Born in Monticello, Ill., she moved from Atlanta to High Springs five years ago.

Mrs. Talbott was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of High Springs, the Women of the Church, the New Century Women's Club and the Garden Club, all in High Springs.

Survivors include a son, James E. Edwards Jr. of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Marcia Morgan of Smyrna, Ga.; a sister, Helen Boyd of High Springs; a brother, Victor DeBoy of Lake Placid; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Martha L. Urquhart

MORRISTON - Martha L. Urquhart of Morriston died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 65.

Mrs. Urquhart was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was born in Macon, Ga.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Urquhart of Morriston; two sons; three daughters; two brothers; and eight grandchildren.

Annette Rosa Ward

ALACHUA - Annette Rosa Ward of Alachua died Wednesday at her home due to injuries suffered in an accident at her farm. She was 52.

Mrs. Ward was a horse breeder for Rolling Meadows Farms in Alachua.

Born in Germany, she moved to Alachua 19 years ago.

Mrs. Ward was a board member of the Southeastern Peruvian Horse Club of Alachua County.

Survivors include her husband, Nathan H. Ward of Alachua; two daughters, Christine Malpartida of Alachua and Annette Malpartida of Gainesville; a son, Carlos Malpartida of Alachua; her mother, Magdalene Gutt of Alachua; a sister, Heidi Gutt of Cumana, Venezuela; two brothers, George Gutt of Trujillo, Peru, and Peter Gutt of Cumana; and one grandchild.

Robert E. Welz Sr.

HIGH SPRINGS - Robert E. Welz Sr. of High Springs died Wednesday at his home after a brief illness. He was 69.

Mr. Welz was a former firefighter in Dade County. He also was a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Welz was born in Hartford, Conn., and moved from Miami to High Springs 21 years ago.

Mr. Welz was a member of the St. Madeline Catholic Church in High Springs.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Welz-Keene.

Survivors his wife, Emilie Welz of High Springs; three sons, Robert Welz Jr. of Miami and Frank Welz and Mark Welz, both of High Springs; three daughters, Sharon Dunbar of Columbus, Ga., Cynthia Welz of Fort White and Linda Welz of Orlando; six brothers, Henry Welz Jr., William Welz, Carl Welz and Edward Welz, all of Hartford, Conn., Walter Welz of Maine and Albert Welz of Arizona; six sisters, Lillian Shea, Beatrice Kemble and Shirley Hyland, all of Hartford, Dorothy Limberger of Florida, Anna Royce of Vermont and Eleanor Anderson of Connecticut; and nine grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida or to St. Madeleine Catholic Church in High Springs.

Bonnie Lee Whitaker

Bonnie Lee Whitaker of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville. She was 49.

Ms. Whitaker was a homemaker.

Born in Hornel, N.Y., she moved from Hornell to Gainesville 28 years ago.

Ms. Whitaker was a Catholic. She loved animals.

Survivors include a sister, Bennie Jones of Mantua, Ohio; two nephews; and one niece.

Robert Earl Wiggins

OLD TOWN - Robert Earl Wiggins of Old Town died Friday at his home. He was 72.

Mr. Wiggins was a master electrician.

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he moved from Kansas City to Old Town two years ago.

Mr. Wiggins was a member of the Pentecostal Countryside Chapel in Old Town.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wiggins of Old Town; three sons, Robert Wiggins, Larry Wiggins and Jack Wiggins, all of Tampa; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
