Raul Arnaldo Gotay

Raul Arnaldo Gotay of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at the University of Florida after a long illness.

He was 58.

Mr. Gotay was a chef with the Merchant Marines.

Born in Puerto Rico, he moved 25 years ago from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Gainesville.

He was a member of CCL Getsemani Asambleas de Dios in Gainesville.

Survivors include his mother, Luz Maria Gotay of Puerto Rico; his wife, Ruth Gotay of Gainesville; his son, Kenny Gotay of Gainesville; his daughter, Linette Gotay of Gainesville; two brothers, Gustavo Gotay of Tampa and Elvin Gotay of Puerto Rico; three sisters, Sonia Matos and Juani Gotay, both of Puerto Rico, and Iris Almadovar of Rochester, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

John Eugene Lambert

LIVE OAK - John Eugene Lambert of Badin, N.C., died Thursday in Live Oak. He was 55.

Mr. Lambert was the owner of a painting company.

Born in Miami, Mr. Lambert later moved to Badin.

He was a Christian.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Theen of Gainesville; five brothers; and one grandson.

Daniel Richard Lynn

Daniel Richard Lynn of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 74.

A lifetime resident of Gainesville, Mr. Lynn was a real estate land developer.

He was a 50-year member of the R.T. Schafer Masonic Lodge No. 350.

Survivors include his father, R. J. Lynn of Gainesville.

James M. Mancil

James M. Mancil of Lake Butler died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 90.

Mr. Mancil was retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad in Jacksonville. He also owned and operated a farm in Lake Butler.

Born in Fitzgerald, Ga., Mr. Mancil moved from Jacksonville to Lake Butler 57 years ago.

He was a member of the Providence Village Baptist Church in Lake Butler.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Blair Mancil of Lake Butler; a daughter, Dorothy Hinson of Ocala; two sons, J.L. Mancil of Lake Butler and Michael Mancil of Lake City; and two grandchildren.

Mary Carolyn Matthews

INTERLACHEN - Mary Carolyn Matthews of Interlachen died Friday at her home. She was 56.

Miss Matthews was a retired schoolteacher and the daughter of former U.S. Rep. D.R. "Billy" Matthews, who represented Florida's 8th Congressional District.

Born in Gainesville, she moved from Hawthorne to Interlachen seven years ago.

She received a master's of education and a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, where she belonged to the Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She taught Spanish for 24 years and English for 13. She took students on trips to Spanish-speaking countries such as Spain and Mexico and helped develop a testing program that led to increases in the standardized test scores for Alachua County students.

Miss Matthews was an avid reader, often finishing up to 40 books a week. She was an athlete and avid golfer.

She was a Presbyterian.

Miss Matthews was preceded in death by her father, D.R. "Billy" Matthews.

Survivors include her mother, Sara Lewis Matthews of Gainesville; a sister, Ann Matthews Hathaway of Gainesville and a brother, Donald Ray Matthews Jr. of Enterprise, Ala.

Corinne Norton Woodard

Corinne Norton Woodard of Gainesville died Friday at her home. She was 87.

Born in Granite Falls, Wash., Mrs. Woodard moved from Wildwood to Gainesville five years ago.

She was a Protestant.

Mrs. Woodard also belonged to the Gainesville Golden Age Bridge Club and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Lockhart Newport of Gainesville and Judy Lockhart Cook of Brookline, N.H.; her stepdaughter, Nancy Faulk of San Antonio; and six grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy made be made as donations to the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church School in Gainesville.

William H. Danford

William H. "Pete" Danford of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville after a long illness. He was 80.

Mr. Danford retired as a supervisor from La Pradd Distributing Co. in Gainesville. He later was a starter at West End Golf Course.

Born in Gadsden County, Ala., he moved from Northwest Florida to the Gainesville area about 60 years ago.

Mr. Danford was a member of the West End Golf Association.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Beulah M. Danford of Gainesville; three daughters, Cecelia Patterson of Atlanta, Edith Lowery of Houston and Sherry Nobles of Gainesville; two sisters, Louise Jones of Columbus, Ga., and Doris Jackson of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
