Gladys Estelle Dixon, 90, Hawthorne, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at North Florida Rehab & Specialty of Gainesville.
Born in Bibb County, Ga., she moved to Hawthorne in 1962 from Macon, Ga.
She was a retired weaver for a cotton mill.
She is survived by three sons, Lamar Dixon of Hawthorne, Wayne Dixon of Denver, Colo., and Richard Dixon of Dunnellon; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Wallace ‘Wally’ Jones, 82 Inverness
Wallace Cole “Wally” Jones, 82, Inverness, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness.
Born in Lincoln County, W.Va., to Ervin and Amy Ruth (Sheets) Jones, he came here 25 years ago from St. Louis, Mich.
He was a retired tax accountant. He was a member of the First Church of God. He was a member of the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame. He was listed in Strathmore’s Who’s Who and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Dorthy (Story) Jones; two sons, Wally Jones II and Robert Jones, both of Inverness; three daughters, Autumn Bowers of Apopka, and Clara Jean Pitts and Judy Mann, both of Alma, Mich.; brother, Ervin Jones of Reed City, Mich.; sister, Hilda Jamison of Reed City, Mich.; and six grandchildren, Leslie, Wally III, Kara, Kevin, Michelle and Lori.

Jesse Medeiros, 79, Inverness, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at home under the care of his family and Hospice.
A native of New Bedford, Mass., he was born Oct. 13, 1922, to Manuel and Mary Medeiros. He came to Florida in 1995 from Norwalk, Conn.
He retired from the Liggett Drug Company in Stanford, Conn., as a warehouse director.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Newport, Omaha, and Fall River. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 4337, Inverness.
He was preceded by his son, Michael, and two brothers, John and Manuel.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Lillian Vickers Medeiros of Inverness; two daughters, June Stanley of Inverness and Sandra Medeiros of Dartmouth, Mass.; one stepdaughter, Patty Nolan of Santa Ana, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Medeiros of New Bedford, Mass., and Joseph Medeiros of North Dartmouth, Mass.; one sister, Gloria Rodrigues of New Bedford, Mass.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Vera Lily Seleck, 76, DeLand, formerly of Crystal River, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Woodland Terrace in DeLand.
She was born in Newfoundland, Canada, and moved to DeLand in August from Crystal River.
She was a loving mother and homemaker and widow of Jack Robert Seleck.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn A. Stark of Minnetonka, Minn., and her son, Craig R. Seleck of DeLand.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was an expediter with Raytheon Corp.
He was a member of Brockton Disabled American Veterans and Brockton VEGA Club.
He was Lutheran.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills and its Council of Catholic Women. She was a former member of the Shuffleboard Club and NARFE and Sunshine Club. She was a charter member of the Irish-American Social Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Karst on June 5, 1993.

Evan Christopher Dyer, 21, Gainesville, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Levy County.
He was born July 28, 1981, at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, to Eldon W. and Patricia (Dupree) Dyer.
He was a student at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville and was planning to attend pharmacy school.
He was a member of the University of Central Florida Knights Marching Band his freshman year; a drum major for Citrus High School Marching Band and a member of the CHS Chamber Choir and Chorus. He was a CHS honor graduate.
He was a member of Fort Cooper Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Eldon and Patricia Dyer of Inverness; brother, Shawn Charles Dyer of Inverness; and sister, Heather Leigh Dyer of Waldorf, Md.
