Pat Rorie, 77 Homosassa

Pat Henry Rorie, 77, Homosassa, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.

Born Oct. 25, 1924, in Clarksville, Tenn., to Forrest and Darling (Gray) Rorie, he came to this area 13 years ago from Madison, Ind.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

He was a retired carpenter.

He was involved with Boys Scouts, Eagle Scouts and Scout Master. He was a volunteer for the Kent Volunteer Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department and a volunteer Little League umpire.

He was a member of the New Life Christian Center in Crystal River.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Rorie of Homosassa; one son, Glenn Rorie of Beverly Hills; two daughters, Becky Wright of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, and Margaret Ann Macy of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Nellie Stanley of Lexington, Ind., and Polly Wade of Oscoda, Mich.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Connie Unger, 50 Homosassa

Connie J. Unger, 50, Homosassa, died Tuesday morning, May 2, 2002, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County.

She was born March 7, 1952, in Rensselaer, Ind., to James and Bonnie (Tomlinson) Burns. She moved to this area 32 years ago from there.

She was an administrative assistant with Florida Power Crystal River Plant for 12 years.

She attended Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Crystal River.

She graduated in 1970 from DeMott (Ind.) High School and attended Central Florida Community College in the late 1980s.

She was a member and treasurer of the Citrus Road Runners Club.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Mark Unger of Homosassa; a son, Jeffrey Bell of San Antonio, Texas; a stepson, Markus Unger Jr. of Homosassa; a daughter, Jennifer Bell-Helm (George) of Orlando; two stepdaughters, Amy Green (Robert) of Mansfield, Ohio, and Shannon Unger of Crystal River; her mother, Bonnie Burns of Rensselaer, Ind.; a brother, Steven Burns (Vicki) of Rensselaer, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.

Jon Altier, 33 Inverness

Jon Michael Altier, 33, Inverness and Brandon, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Nov. 25, 1968, in Salem, Ohio.

He came here three years ago from Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was a building engineer in the property management industry.

He was Protestant.

Survivors include his parents, Julian and Judy (Russell) Altier; a brother, Paul Altier, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Beth Groner of Clifton, Va., and Margaret Meyer of Alpharetta, Ga.; paternal grandmother, Marie Altier, of Lecanto; maternal grandmother, Juanita Hosey, of Williamsburg, Va.; two nephews, Alexander and Brady Groner; and a niece, Hannah Meyer.

Theresa Phelps, 89 Beverly Hills

Theresa Frances Phelps, 89, Beverly Hills, died Friday, May 3, 2002, in Beverly Hills.

She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Duluth, Minn., to Irving B. Phelps and Theresa Albreght.

She moved to the area in 1980 from Belleville, Mich.

She was a registered nurse. She received her BSN from the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She received a master’s in education counseling and guidance from the University of Pennsylvania with a master of art-pediatrics, maternal and child health from the Teacher’s College at Columbia University.

She was a member of the American Nurses Association.

She was Protestant.

Joseph ‘Peter’ Poirier, 63 Floral City

Joseph “Peter” Poirier, 63, Floral City, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Mariner Health Care of Inverness.

He was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Lawrence, Mass., to Peter and Rena Poirier.

He moved to Citrus County in 1993 from Hollywood.

He was a meat cutter for the Winn-Dixie grocery store in Homosassa and the Save-A-Lot grocery store in Leesburg. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Floral City VFW.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rene Cachion, and his brother, Kenneth Poirier.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Poirier of Floral City; three daughters, Melody Harvey of Aloha, Ore., Gail Taschereau of Haverhill, Mass., and Patricia Finnegan of Salem, N.H.; a son, Carl H. Gammon of West Palm Beach; three sisters, Doris Pelletier of Springfield, Mass., Lorraine Kerr of Orville, Calif., and Charlene Broucher of Londonderry, N.H.; two brothers, Richard Poirier of Derry, N.H., and George “Buster” Poirier of Lawrence, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan Schirmer, 66, Inverness, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in Inverness.

She was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Bronx, N.Y., to John Francis Quinn and Mildred Catherine Staib.

She moved to the area in 1987 from Coram, Long Island, N.Y. She was a homemaker.

She managed the Huntley Jiffy Store 10 years ago.

She was a member of the Italian Club of Citrus County and O.E.S. of Patchogue, N.Y.

She was Catholic.

She is survived by her fiancé, Jack Herron of Inverness; a son, Walter Erlich and his wife, Tracy, of Long Island, N.Y.; two daughters, Susan Clements of Winter Park and Joan Wentnick of Orlando; a brother, John F. Quinn and his wife, Christine, of Charlottesville, Va.; and a sister, Patricia Thunquist and her husband, Rudolph, of Biloxi, Miss.

Claude Walker, 83 Beverly Hills

Claude R. Walker, 83, Beverly Hills, died Friday, May 3, 2002, in Hernando.

He was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Tonawanda, N.Y.

He moved to the area in 1984 from North Tonawanda, N.Y. He was a toolmaker for a machine shop.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II.

He was a member of the Beverly Hills Fishing Club, Archery Club and the SPEBSQSA.

He was Baptist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills, where he was also a member of the church’s choir.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel C. Clemen Walker of Beverly Hills; two sons, Robert Walker of Bryon, Ohio and David Walker of Gibsonton; a daughter, Janice Ames of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Ruth Stanton of Wimama; and 11 grandchildren.

Alice Westmoreland, 80 Inverness

Alice L. Westmoreland, 80, Inverness, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County.

She was born April 8, 1922, in Mamaroneck, N.Y., to John and Adeline Schmidt.

She moved to Inverness in 1982 from Bristol, Conn.

She was a volunteer assistant clerk for the State Attorney’s Office in Inverness.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Westmoreland, who died in 1962.

She is survived by her companion, John Jelley of Inverness; two sons, John W. Westmoreland of Inverness and Robert Westmoreland of Canton, Conn.; two sisters, Peggy Whadhams of Inverness and Ethel Worn of Los Gatos, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, 3350 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461.

Edward Bonin, 71 Beverly Hills

Edward Francis Bonin, 71, Beverly Hills, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Woodland Terrace of Citrus County in Hernando.

Born June 6, 1930, in Northport, Maine to Theodore and Agnus Bonin, he came here 11 years ago from Portland, Conn.

Mr. Bonin was an operating engineer at Henckels Gas Company of Portland. He was a World War II and Korean War Naval veteran. He was Catholic.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Janet Egan Bonin; two stepsons, Jeff Anderholm and Peter Anderholm both of Newberry, Mass.; one stepdaughter, Karen Nielsen of Melbourne; two brothers, Alfred Bonin of Northport, Maine, and Larry Bonin of Arizona; two sisters, Emma Merchon of Sarasota and Mary Swink of Germany; three grandchildren, Dana, Lia and Olivia; and a cousin, Jane McKinnon of Maine.
