Sarah B. Sawyer 87 of Eustis passed away on Sunday November 1, 2009. She was born in Moultrie, Georgia and moved here in 1975 from Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the New Life Church of God of Tavares and was retired from the Bemis Bag Company. She is survived by two nieces Ethel Crawford and Kathy Wright and one sister-in-law Otelia Bryan of Newport News, Virginia. Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Wednesday, Nov.4, 2009. Pastor Michael R. Swiney officiated. Interment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.

Aretha Parker Sobczak
October 23, 1919 - December 25, 2009

ARETHA PARKER SOBCZAK at the age of 90 has gone home to be with the Lord on the eve of Dec 25, 2009. Live, Love, Laugh, Pray, Eat was her motto, with malice towards none. She was born in Perry, FL on Oct 23, 1919. She will be greatly missed by her children; Jerome & Ching Parker of Zephyrhills, Jeanie & Michael Lombardi of Eustis, Aaron & Diana Parker of Umatilla, Mandy & Sam Bass of Grand Island; brother, Curles Lundy of Inman, SC; 2 grand children & 2 great-grandchildren. "Rita" was a member of the Grand Island Baptist Church. The family received friends at Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Eustis on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 29 at 11:00AM at Grand Island Baptist Church 13229 SR 44. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, Eustis.

Marietta Anne Staples
October 19, 1922 - May 03, 2009

Marietta Anne Staples, 86 of Umatilla passed away Sunday May 3, 2009. She was born in Newton, Massachusetts and moved here from Natick, Massachusetts in 1987. She was a homemaker and a Born Again Christian. She is survived by her husband Joseph, a son Theodore Williamson of Umatilla, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Staples was predeceased by her daughter Brenda Boudette in 2008.

Joyce C. Stark
May 03, 1938 - July 21, 2009

Joyce C. Stark, 71, of Eustis, formerly of Orlando, passed away on Tuesday, July 21st, 2009. Born in Meadville, PA, she moved to Orlando with her parents and siblings in 1950. Joyce retired from Dial Page, Inc. in Orlando in 2000 and retired in Eustis. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, outdoor activities and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Stan (Lorene) Young of Davie and Steve (Kelly) Young of Orlando; step children, Sabrina Howell of Orlando, Robert (Kaye) Stark of Fruitland Park and Tracy (Randy) Hawkins of Umatilla; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat (Sid) Carling and Jackie (Larry) Davenport, all of Orlando and brother, Jim Ellis of Orlando. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nerea Ellis of Orlando. A Graveside Service was held on Friday, July 24 at 11:30 AM at Lakeside Memory Gardens, County Road 19A in Eustis with Pastor Brooks Braswell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. Arrangements are entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, Eustis, 352-357-4193.

Viola Rachel Stein
August 29, 1919 - October 03, 2009

Viola Rachel Stein 90, of Eustis passed away on Oct. 3, 2009. She was born in Pennsylvania and moved here from Leesburg in 2005. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis and the Button Club. Mrs. Stein is survived by several nieces and nephews including Charles Dittman of St. Petersburg, Pennsylvania.
Graveside services were held in Lakeside Memory Gardens of Eustis at 1 PM on Friday October 8, 2009.

Roland Edward Stevens
November 13, 1938 - September 28, 2009

Mr. Roland Edward Stevens, of Astatula, passed away on Monday, September 28th, 2009 at the age of 70 years. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Roland served in the US Marines and the reserves for 8 years. He moved to Astatula in 1980 from Daytona Beach. Roland was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Roland is survived by his wife, Ann.

George C. Taveirne
September 14, 1948 - June 30, 2009

Mr. George C. Taveirne, of Tavares, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 60 years. Born in Detroit, MI, he moved to Tavares in 1960. George was a veteran of the US army and served in Vietnam. He was employed by Jacob's Engineering in Greenville, SC and was known worldwide as an outstanding Industrial Electrical Superintendant. George enjoyed Golf, fishing and was an avid Florida Gator fan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Eustis. George leaves behind many friends and loved ones, including his sons, Scott (Judith) Taveirne and Jason Taveirne, all of Odum, GA; sisters, Carol (Earl) Ollila of Detroit, MI and Paula Andrus of Niceville, FL; devoted companion, Barbara Fullwood of Fernandina Beach, FL and 3 grandchildren, Michael (18), Ryan (16) and Joshua (2). Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 8 from 11 am - 12 noon with a funeral service starting at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, 237 East Marks St., Orlando, FL 32803. Arrangements entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, 326 E. Orange Ave., Eustis, 352-357-4193.

John E. Teet
January 16, 1925 - March 01, 2009

John E. Teet, 84 of Eustis passed away in Gainesville on Sunday, March 1, 2009. He was born in Flint, Michigan and moved here from Ramrod Key, Florida in 2004. He was a Baptist and a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Mr. Teet was retired after 31 years with New Jersey Zinc Company where he worked as a Exploration Geologist. He is survived by his wife Joan, his sons, Thomas E. (M.C.) Teet of Altamonte Springs, and Rodger (Amy) Teet of Orlando and two grandchildren Zoe and Madeline Teet. Funeral services were held from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis at 11 AM Thursday, March 5, with Dr. Charles Ashley officiating.
The family requested those desiring direct memorials to their favorite charity.

Patricia Finley Tugend

Patricia Finley Tugend, 87, passed away in her home in Eustis on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, an artist and a very caring person. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Jack and Nancy King Wilson on April 21, 1921. Mrs. Tugend was an Executive Secretary in the Chemical Industry and a member of the Christian Science Church of Eustis. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter CA of Eustis, the National Toothpick Holder Collectors Society and the Mount Dora Women’s Club. She will be remembered by her husband Frank, her children Diane T. Finley of Eustis and Thomas W. Finley of Oakboro, North Carolina, a granddaughter, Patricia Stout of Mandeville, Louisiana, a brother Jack Wilson of Marietta, Georgia and a great-grandson Shad Levi Finley Stout. There was a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life on Tuesday, February 17th at 2 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora, 222 West Sixth Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to PEO Chapter CA c/o Bebe Hester, 2000 Fairway Drive, Eustis, Florida 32726 or Cornerstone Hospice 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778

Ruby Nadine Turvin

Ruby Nadine Turvin, 78 formerly of Zellwood passed away in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on Wednesday February 4, 2009. She was born in Dothan, Alabama and moved to Mississippi from Zellwood in 2007. Mrs. Turvin had worked for Zellwin Farms, Mt. Plymouth Growers and had owned her own nursery. She was a member of Zellwood Baptist Church. She is survived by three children, Jerry Turvin of Eustis, Charlie (Carol) Turvin of Clyde, North Carolina and Sandy, a sister Vernell Ledger of Moss Point, Mississippi, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the graveside in Lakeside Memory Gardens of Eustis on Saturday, February 7.

Jose Valdes
March 19, 1917 - January 10, 2010

Mr. Jose Valdes, 92 of Eustis passed away on Sunday January 10, 2010. He was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico and moved here from Brooklyn, New York in 1971. Mr. Valdes was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis and had retired from the concrete industry. He was a Veteran having served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Valdes is survived by his wife of 55 years Margaret, his children Andrew (Arlene) Rodriguez of New Smyrna Beach and Paulina (Jeff) Rumpf of Eustis, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his pet Chula. Friends gathered at the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 4 until 6 PM. A Funeral Mass was held in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis at 9 AM Thursday, January 14, 2010 and interment will military honors followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.

Madelene B. Vaughan

Madelene Vaughan, 84 of Umatilla passed away in Leesburg on Monday May 18, 2009. She was born in Randolph, Maine and moved to this area in 1965. She is survived by her husband Troyce, one son Robert Storey on Umatilla, her grandchildren, Rebecca Story of Clayton, North Carolina and Scott Story of Virginia and a great-granddaughter Cameron Story.

Stephen John Weiss

Steven John Weiss, 62 of Eustis, Florida passed away on Monday January 26, 2009. He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and moved here in 1976 from Dutchess County, New York. He was a Jehovah’s Witness and a self employed real estate investor. He will be remembered by his wife Diane, mother Margaret V. Weiss of Poughkeepsie, New York, sons; Steven (Janice) Weiss of Palm Bay, Florida and Darren (Sherri) Weiss of Greenville, South Carolina, step daughter, Suzanne (Clint) Jeckovick of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, his siblings, William F. Weiss Jr. of Morgantown, West Virginia, Frederick W. (Katherine) Weiss of LaGrange, New York, Star (Roy) Snyder of New Durham, New Hampshire, John S. Weiss of Staatsburg, New York and Maggie Weiss of New Paltz, New York, five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mr. Weiss was predeceased by his father William Frederick Weiss Sr. in 1985. The family requested those desiring direct memorials to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.

Donald John Welke
July 09, 1938 - October 01, 2009

Donald John Welke 71 of Eustis passed away in The Villages on Thursday October 1, 2009. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Eustis from Casselberry in 1980. Mr. Welke was retired from the United States Postal Service and had served as the Postmaster for Grand Island, Florida, he was also a former officer in the Florida Post Master Association and was the Past President of the Spina Bifida Association of Central Florida. Mr. Welke was an avid auto racing fan attending several Indianapolis 500s and the last Daytona race on the beach and the first Daytona 500. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan and an active table tennis player, a member of the Smart Car Club of the Villages and loved to travel the world. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, a member of Eustis Lodge 1578 B.P.O.E. and of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis. He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years Maryann, his children, Cynthia (Frank) Fogarty of Sorrento, Brian (Teresa) Welke of Eustis, Paul Welke Hathcox of Tavares and Georgeta Welke of Eustis, his grandchildren Frank Fogarty, Caitlin Fogarty, Christopher Welke and Alexander Welke his brother Marvin Welke of Brookfield, Wisconsin and his stepmother Elizabeth Welke of Brookfield, Wisconsin. The family requests memorials to Mt. Dora Lions Club Ritterband Foundation, P.O. Box 131, Mt. Dora, Florida 32756 or the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis. Friends called at the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Monday, October 5. The Funeral Mass was held in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.

Pennie Z. West
July 18, 1948 - April 07, 2009

Pennie Z. West, 60, of Umatilla passed away in Orlando on Tuesday April 7, 2009. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved here from Silver Spring, Maryland in 1973. Pennie was a hairdresser at the Sheer Magic Salon in Mount Dora and a member of St. Edwards Episcopal Church also of Mount Dora. She is survived by her fiance Robert "Bob" Lee Martin of Umatilla, children, John "Bear" (Shelly) West of Lake Mary, Florida, and Alicia (Chris) Olson of Greenville, South Carolina, step children; Karry (Brett) Jones, Steve (Janet) Martin and Nichole Martin all of Ohio, grandchildren; Jenna Olson, Rylee West, Lauren Olson, Caden West, Ryan Olson and Avery West, step grandchildren; Ashten and Jarret Jones and Kayla and Bobby Martin, and her sister Joyce Wooldridge of Burke, Virginia. In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to the American Cancer Society. Services were held from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. The service time was announced at a later date.

Jerrold David Wheeler
January 27, 1911 - May 08, 2009

Jerrold D. Wheeler, 98 of Eustis passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009. He was born in Hunnewell, Missouri and moved here from Hannibal, Missouri in February of this year. Mr. Wheeler was a retired Mail Carrier and Postmaster for the United States Postal Service, a Methodist Minister, artist, carpenter, and taught ballroom dancing. He was a Veteran having served in the U. S. Army as a Colonel during WWII. He is survived by his daughter Carol Wilcox of Quincy, Illinois, his daughter-in-law Betty Wheeler of Stoutsville, Missouri, his grandchildren Jerry W. (Carla) Wheeler Jr. of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kathy Wheeler of Eustis, Sandy (Keith) Kehoe of Leesburg, Florida, Bill Wilcox and Faye Wilcox both of Hannibal, Missouri, great-grandchildren, Ashley Wilcox, Andrea Bolin, Lauren Bolin, Kyle Kehoe and Richard Wheeler. He was predeceased by his wife Lois Vaught Wheeler in 2005, a son Jerry William Wheeler in 2001,sisters, Ruth Moss, Mary Blackwood and two brothers Chester Wheeler and William "Penny" Wheeler. Services were under the direction of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Hannibal, Missouri, 573-221-8188.

William "Bill" White
September 14, 1943 - November 26, 2009

William "Bill" White, 66 of Umatilla passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Bill played tribute to Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong and entertained audiences all over the United States and Canada. He was a regular member of the award winning show, "Legends in Concert" in Las Vegas and the "Mickey Finn Show". Bill entertained thousands of guests for over ten years at Rosie O'Gradys in Orlando and at Walt Disney World. He is survived by his wife; Barbara, three children, four step children, fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one sister. He was a Christian and a Veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Marine Corp. Bill will be missed by all and remembered for his kindness and compassion as well as his talent. Friends called in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Tuesday, December 1, from Noon until 2 PM. The family requests those desiring direct memorials to the children's charity of their choice. Services were private with interment in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.

David C. Whitmore
December 12, 1935 - December 26, 2009

Mr. David C. Whitmore, of Mount Dora, passed away on Saturday, December 26th, 2009 at the age of 74 years. He was an insurance agent and served in the United States Air Force. Friends may gather in the Chapel of Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors in Eustis, on Thursday, January 7, from 11:30 to 12:15 P.M. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, January 7, at 2 P.M. at Florida National cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, 326 East Orange Ave., Eustis. 352-357-4193.

William F. Wiley
July 14, 1929 - December 22, 2009

William F. Wiley, 80 of Tavares passed away on Tuesday December 22, 2009. He was born in Independence, Kansas and moved here in 1963 from Ohio. He was a trucker and an owner operator. In later years he was a parts deliveryman for the George Nahas and Danny Len auto dealerships in Eustis and Tavares. He is survived by his wife Berniece, his children, Donald Lee (Joyce) Wiley of Eustis, Catherine Diana Wiley of Tavares, Dennis Paul (Stephannie) Wiley of Fruitland Park and Bill (Joni) Wiley of Umatilla, his brother Jim Wiley of London, Kentucky, sister Patricia Martin of Mount Dora, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family received friends in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 1 until 3 PM, services were held in the Chapel on Monday at 10 AM. Interment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Memorials may be directed to the charity of choice.
