Roland Schmidt
Roland Schmidt, 75, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly resided in the Leesburg area along with his wife, Christine and granddaughter, Christin (Strawbridge) Hunt. After a lengthy illness, he passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Life Care Center in Palm Bay, Fla. He is survived by his wife; and loving daughter, Michelle of Huntsville, Ala.; granddaughter, Christin S. Hunt and Ryan; a twin brother, Ray (Lois); and a sister, Jackie Huband (Granville); along with many beloved nephews and nieces. Mr. Schmidt was at the helm of Waste Management's Town and Country Refuse from 1983-1996. Memorial service will be held beach-side in July. John Spence Jr.
John Spence Jr., 75, of Fruitland Park, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. He will truly be missed by his beloved sisters: Shirley White of Belleview, Fla., and Donna Gillespie of Tampa, Fla. His accomplishments in life include serving in the U.S. Navy as a UWDT with the Navy Seals from 1950-1955. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legions. John served the City of Leesburg as purchasing manager for a period of 39 years before retiring. John lived a full life and will be missed dearly by his loved ones. His family will hold a private service.

Millard C. Kiser, Jr., age 65, of Wildwood, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, a retired carpenter and a member of Wildwood Assembly of God Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and creating furniture. He is survived by his wife, Patti of Wildwood; his mother, Gertrude Kiser of Virginia; three daughters, Penny (Chris) Dyal of Ocala, Jessica (Anthony) Green of Wildwood and Krystal (Roger) Dale of Ocala; two brothers, Gene and Joe, both of Virginia; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine Kiser. Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Chapel. Keith Arnold Sevenbergen, 79, of Leesburg, Florida, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Born May 26, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa he moved to Leesburg in 1968 from Mansfield, OH. He was the original Service Manager at Birdsong Volkswagon for eight years. He owned and operated Keith's Auto Repair for 20 years. Keith was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg for 40 years and served as an usher. He was one of the original volunteers at the Op Shop since 1999. He was a Navy Veteran of The Korean War. He was a Nascar fan and country music fan. He enjoyed camping and his family. Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Jacqueline B. Sevenbergen of Leesburg, FL; four sons, Stanley (Nina) Coe of Belleview, FL, Steven Coe of Belleview, FL, William (Debra) Coe of Ft. Karen Ann Maginniss Sviben
Karen Ann Maginniss Sviben died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the age of 66 in Norfolk, Va., following a short illness. A resident of Shamong Township, N.J. since 1975, she had moved to Leesburg, Fla., in 2006. Karen was born on Nov. 24, 1942 in Camden, N.J., to Lloyd and Anna (Ledrich) Maginniss and spent her childhood years in Wynnewood, Pa. She earned a B.S. degree from Pennsylvania State University and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Karen was a registered dietitian and certified school nutrition specialist and retired with 25 years in food service management at the Eastern Camden County Regional School District in Voorhees, N.J. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and the American School Food Service Association and volunteered on many boards and committees for nutrition related activities for school children. In her later years she was a volunteer for Samaritan Hospice and Meals on Wheels. In Leesburg, Fla., she worked at DaVita Dialysis Center, planning menus for dialysis patients. Karen was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Tabernacle, N.J., and Corpus Christi Episcopal Church in Okahumpka, Fla., where she was an active volunteer. She most recently enjoyed a variety of activities and clubs at her Florida community of Royal Highlands including bridge, nature club, singles club and theater. An enthusiastic traveler for many years, Karen had many memorable trips with family and friends, including Ireland, Jamaica, Italy and Hawaii. She loved the beach and enjoyed many vacation spots along the Atlantic Ocean and recently came to love exploring nature and bird watching. Karen is best remembered for her role as a mother and grandmother, which brought her the greatest joy. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa R. Smolar (Scott) of Marlton, N.J., and Stacy A. Bien (Frederick) of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren, Justin & Jennifer Smolar and Halie, Maxwell & Alexander Bien, and one step-grandchild, Eric Bien. Also surviving are her sisters, Kathleen M. Brockett (Ronald) of Concord, N.H., and Irene M. Gilbert of Mansfield, Ohio; a special aunt, Emma Weber of Ocala, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Karen had a kind and generous spirit and made friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends in her personal and professional life. A memorial service will be held at the Corpus Christi Episcopal Church, 3430 County Road 470, Okahumpka, FL on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Glenna Jean Osborne
Glenna Jean Osborne, age 64, Mt. Dora, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, after winning her 12-year battle against breast cancer, but losing the war to melanoma. Ms. Osborne was a champion of children's causes and an advocate for the underprivileged. Born in Rainelle, West Virginia, Ms. Osborne moved to Florida with her parents in 1956. She earned her education degree from the University of Tampa in 1966. After teaching English and serving as a principal for several New Jersey schools, Ms. Osborne retired and returned to Florida in 1994 to begin her second career in mental health. She worked for D.C.F. as a Protective Investigator Supervisor, served as the Program Supervisor for the Children's Home Society, was the Clinical Supervisor for Healthy Families Orange, and most recently was the Administrator for LifeStream Academy, Lake and Sumter Counties, serving emotionally disturbed children and children needing alternative education due to serious behavioral offenses. Ms. Osborne's accomplishments included being honored as the 2008 Administrator of the Year for the State of Florida by the Council for Community Mental Health and receiving in 2003 the prestigious George F. Hixson Fellow medal for Kiwanis International for her service as the first woman President of Kiwanis Club of Mt. Dora. Additional accomplishments included, among many others, serving as the Director of the Mt. Dora Community Trust, during which a resolution was recorded honoring her accomplishments, serving as the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Center for Drug Free Living Woman's Long-term Residential Program, serving as Vice-Chair of the Lake County School Readiness Coalition, serving as Vice President of Central Healthy Start Coalition, and being honored in Who's Who in America, in American Education, in American Women, and in Medicine and Healthcare. Ms. Osborne will be greatly missed by her parents, Billy and Jean Osborne, Eustis, her son, Thomas Osborne, and his family, her sister Carol, her niece Audrey, her many friends, her amazing cat, Roy, and all the children whose lives she improved. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church, 439 E. 5th Ave., Mt. Dora, Fl. Mr. George C. Taveirne, of Tavares, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 60 years. Born in Detroit, MI, he moved to Tavares in 1960. George was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. He was employed by Jacob's Engineering in Greenville, SC and was known worldwide as an outstanding Industrial Electrical Superintendant. George enjoyed Golf, fishing and was an avid Florida Gator fan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Eustis. George leaves behind many friends and loved ones, including his sons, Scott (Judith) Taveirne and Jason Taveirne, all of Odum, GA; sisters, Carol (Earl) Ollila of Detroit, MI and Paula Andrus of Niceville, FL; devoted companion, Barbara Fullwood of Fernandina Beach, FL and 3 grandchildren, Michael (18), Ryan (16) and Joshua (2). He was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Helen and son Jimmy. He was a graduate of Lander University and New Orleans Seminary. He retired from Lake County Florida School System in 1990.
