Lori Kaye Klausutis
Lori Kaye Klausutis, 28, of Niceville, passed away Thursday, July 19.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was also a cantor. She was a former president of the Young Republicans and was serving as treasurer at the time of her passing.
Lori graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Journalism and was working on completing her MBA from the University of West Florida. She was also a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.
She performed in “Wild Wild Women” with the Stage Crafters. She was also on the boards of the Fort Walton Beach Youth Symphony and a member of the Fort Walton Beach Jaycees.
Survivors include her husband, T.J. Klausutis, of Niceville; parents, Larry and Linda Bolterstein of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Kelly Ann Bolterstein, of Atlanta; father and mother–in–law, Norm and Carol Klausutis of Niceville; and grandparents, Leo and Heneretta Leja of Fraser, Mich.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s with Father Paul White officiating. Burial will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville.

John Hedley Dyer
John Hedley Dyer, 75, of Destin, passed away on Sunday, July 15, at a local hospital. He was a member of Destin United Methodist Church. John was in the British Army for two years. He enjoyed boating, stamp collecting, and was an avid cat lover.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cynthia; two sons, Glenn A. Dyer of Denver Colo and Mark J. Dyer of Houston; and daughter, Kimberly A. Tsompanides of New Port Richey, Fla. Two stepdaughters, Amy Maris of Gainesville and Cynthia Lahner of Detroit, Mich., and seven grandchildren also survive him.
Funeral services were conducted July 17, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Dr. John Friedman officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 101 Hall St., Niceville, Fla., 32578.

Ruth G. Nelson
Ruth G. Nelson, 83, passed away July 13.
Nelson was born in Highland Park, Ill. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara, and sons William, Thomas and Timothy.
Services will be private.
Joseph S. Michalowski III
Son, friend, and brother, Joseph S. Michalowski III, better known as “Mike” or “Uncle Muck,” passed away Friday, July 13, after suffering heat stroke on Wednesday, while running for the Marine Corp. He fought a courageous battle in the Intensive Care Unit of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Mike was born Jan 22, 1974 in Valdosta, Georgia, to Colonel Joseph and Linda Michalowski Jr. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1992, where he enjoyed playing football. He attended the University of Southern Alabama for four years and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He graduated with a microbiology degree from the University of West Florida in December 2000. He was actively pursuing a Marine Aviation career and swore the oath to serve in the Marine Corp on Monday, July 9.
He maintained many joyous hours flying by obtaining his private pilot’s license and being an active member of both the Civil Air Patrol and Eglin Aero Club. Mike also had his 100–ton boat captain’s license and loved being a boat captain for Boogies Watersports in Destin where he worked. He was a member of the British Scouts and American Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout while in Bitburg, Germany in 1990. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandfather, Colonel Joseph Stanley Michalowski, and he is survived by both his parents; his sister, Tracy Marthis and her husband Randy; his niece, Amber Lynn Marthis of Fort Walton Beach; his fiancee Sarah Victoria Redmond of Destin; his paternal grandparents, Colonel and Mrs. William B. Gibson of Sumter, S.C.; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn M. Irish of Charleston; his aunts, Keary Wells and her husband Sam of Waynesville, N.C.; Kelly Brown of Irmo, S.C.; and Betty Jo Cottingham and husband Jim of Effingham, S.C.; his uncle, Earl “Zip” Irish of Charleston; his cousins, Austin, Ashley, Jason, Jordan, Erica, Erin, Travis, Casey, and J.J.
Mike enjoyed life daily. He was best friend, confidant, and joy to his parents and everyone that knew him. He will always be “The Golden Child” to his family and his sister’s one and only “Dear Brother Noomsey.” He loved his boxer, Rocky, and considered him his son.
Nothing pleased him more than riding his motorcycle, driving his Porsche, boating, flying, and being with his friends. He spoke Russian and Spanish and enjoyed living in various places all over the world. He will leave a hole in many hearts that will never be filled. He is now flying with his grandfather and never having to pay for all the flight time he is racking up.
The visitation was held on July 16, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Racetrack Road. The funeral service was held July 17, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home and was followed by the burial service at Beal Memorial Cemetery. A reception followed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Joseph “Mike” Michalowski Memorial Fund at Vanguard Bank.

Nell Dean Ballard
Nell Dean Ballard, born Sept. 19, 1920, passed away July 1, at Destin Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Destin.
She is survived by her daughter and son–in–law, Betty and Larry Ferris of Santa Rosa Beach; son and daughter–in–law, Steve and Beverly Reynolds of Fort Myers; brother, Charles Bilbrey; sister, Willene Anderson of Russville, Ark.; granddaughter, Laurie Moore of Destin; grandson, Scott Ferris of Birmingham, Ala.; and five great–grandchildren.
Nell loved her family and friends and celebrated life to the fullest.
The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Destin Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Services were scheduled for Tuesday morning at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. McLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach handled the arrangements.
Jarret Scott Silva
Jarret Scott Silva, 20, of DeFuniak Springs, died Saturday, June 30, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, as the result of an auto accident occurring May 29.
He was born on March 16, 1981, in Albuquerque and lived in DeFuniak Springs for the past 10 years. He was a 1999 graduate of Walton High School and was a member of the DeFuniak Springs Church of God.
Jarrett is survived by his father and mother, Bob and Judy Lee of Lafayette, La.; maternal grandmother, Aline Hall of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sister, Nikki Silva of DeFuniak Springs; nephew, Austin Silva of DeFuniak Springs; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Comander Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Hare officiating. Entombment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sy Loman, Ray Short, Cody Osbourne, Johnny McCormick, Frank Parker, Brandon Coone, Pratt McHenry and Kirk McHenry.

Ona Mae Glascock
Ona Mae Glascock passed away on Saturday, June 30, after a blessed and happy life of 94 years.
Born in Bonifay on May 8, 1907, she was a lifelong resident of this area. A member of the First Assembly of God in Destin and the Eastern Star in Bonifay, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Glascock.
She is survived by her daughter, Willadean Wright, Destin; grandsons Alan Pate and his wife Sandy, Knoxville, Tenn., and James Pate and his wife Nina, Destin; six great-grandchildren and two great–great–grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the First Assembly of God, Destin, with Rev. Joseph A. Rogers, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at Destin Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her great–grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, friends, who wish, may contribute to their favorite charity in Mrs. Glascock’s memory.

Elzada McCollum Power
Elzada McCollum Power, 77, of Destin, passed away, June 27, at Destin Health Care, after a long bout with Alzheimer’s.
She was a dedicated mother and wife, thoroughly committed to her family and service to God. Elzada was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and spent her adolescent life in Nashville and Clarksville, Tenn.
Elzada graduated from Clarksville High School in 1942, and then attended Austin Peay State College in Clarksville. She married Lt. John O. Power, January 10, 1943 in chapel No. 1, Camp Campbell, Ky. After the war the family settled in Decatur, Ala. Elzada was active in the Episcopal church, the Junior Service League and raising four children. Her hobbies were cards, reading, and golf. In 1969 the family moved back to Nashville for two years and then to Miami, where in later life, Elzada was a part–time employee of the Doral Country Club. She and husband John moved from Miami to Destin in 1986, where they are members of the St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church.
Elzada is survived by her husband John and their four children and five grandchildren. Son, John O. Power III, who passed away March 1988 in Hickory, N.C.; Matthew M. Power and wife Donna of Pell City, Ala., and their two children, Adam Power (Jennifer) of La Grange, Ga., and Mary Power of Tuscaloosa; Jenifer L. Beres (Jim), of Franklin, Tenn.; and their daughter Katy Beres; Laura E. Gobie (Phil), of Miami and their two children Tyler and Jennifer Gobie.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 28 at Mclaughlin Mortuary, Fort Walton Beach. The funeral service was conducted 10 a.m., Friday, June 29, at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Destin.

Scott Lynwood Kimrey
Scott Lynwood Kimrey, son of the late Bill Kimrey and Dane Jennings, and surviving stepfather William K. Jennings, passed from this life into eternal life on Tuesday, June 26.
Scott graduated from Walton High School. He attended Atlanta Art Institute in Atlanta. He was well known locally in the Destin area as a D.J. and sound technician.
Scott loved his family, friends, life, music and water sports. Most of all, he loved his young daughter, Kayla.
His parents predeceased him. His daughter, Kayla Josie Kimrey of Pensacola; his sister and brother–in–law, Connie and Jeff Bowen of Destin; niece, Lindsay; nephew, Wade; and great-niece, Kylee, survive him. Also surviving are two aunts, Tanya Staats and her family of Panama City, and Nancy Watson and her family of Donaldsonville, Ga.
Memorial Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, at Harbor Docks, 538 E. Highway 98, Destin, on the deck downstairs.
Scott’s remains will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico that he loved so much, at a later date.

Happel “Shae” Scott
Happel “Shae” Scott, 32, passed away at her home in Destin on Saturday, June 23, as a result of an extended illness.
Shae was born in Greensboro, Ala., March 10, 1969. She was confined to a wheelchair in high school due to her illness. Shae lived life independently and continues to inspire the lives of those who knew her through her true courage and infinite love of life.
She was a graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School and the University of South Alabama, where she obtained a bachelor of science degree in marketing. While attending college, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Shae was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joseph Leonard and Sarah Eva Rogers. She is survived by her parents, James and Eva Grimsley; brother, Benton Grimsley and wife, Tara, whom she considered to be her sister; and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 101 Hart St., Niceville, Fl. 32578.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with associate Pastor Charles Cummings of Auburn United Methodist Church officiating.
A celebration of Shae’s life will follow at a later date.
