Herbert Wayne Parson
Herbert Wayne Parson, 75, of Destin, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Somerset, Pa. He was retired from property management in real estate. He was a resident of the Destin area since 1986, coming from New York.
He was a Mason, a member of the Ye Host's Square Club, past president in New York, S.K.A.L New York and Texas, Bedford, N.Y., real estate board past president in New York, former hotel general manager in Washington, D.C., New York and California, and real estate broker in New York, Texas and Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Parson of Destin; son, Kirk W. Parson of Portland, Ore.; and brother, John G. Parson, Palm Coast.
A memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Destin United Methodist Church, with Dr. John Friedman officiating. Interment of cremains will be at the Destin Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
McLaughlin Mortuary was entrusted with local services.
Harold Kay Buckner
Harold Kay Buckner, 59, of Destin and formerly of Terre Haute, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala., from the results of an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Terre Haute to Vernon E. Buckner and Mary Virginia Garvin Buckner. He sold real estate in the Destin area. He graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor of science degree in business.
He is survived by a sister, Vicki Lough of Indianapolis; sister and brother-in-law Mike and Judy Short of West Terre Haute; five nephews, Jeff Lough, Scott Lough and Brad Lough of Terre Haute, Trent Short and Brian Short of West Terre Haute; niece Melissa Short of West Terre Haute; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 8, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in West Terre Haute.
There will also be a local memorial service, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at James Lee Park. Call 654-5037 for more information.

Margaret S. Gibson
Margaret S. Gibson, 63, of Destin, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Gibson was born April 3, 1936, in Greenwood, S.C., to the late James Liston and Lona Williams Sheridan. She has been a resident of the Destin and Fort Walton Beach area for the past 35 years, living in England 1979-1981.
Mrs. Gibson was an active member of Destin United Methodist Church, taking part in the singles class and singing in the choir. She also was active with the Okaloosa-Walton Community College chorus.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by daughter Kimberly D. Raimey and husband, Donald, of Fort Myers Beach; daughter Patti Lynn Rosenberg and husband, Stuart, of Dallas; daughter Margaret G. Mehserle and husband, James, of Perry, Ga.; daughter Carol Leigh Tendrich and husband, Todd, of Palm Beach Gardens; son Charles David Gibson of Taylors, S.C.; daughter Sheridan Ann Gibson of Wellington; sister Beth Rambo and husband, Warren, of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Kerri Raimey, Chloe Raimey, Jimmy Mehserle, Liston Mehserle, Gibson Tendrich, Devynn Tendrich, Sorcha Gibson and Brianna Gibson; and extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gibson were scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Destin United Methodist Church with Dr. John Friedman and Dr. Charles Avery officiating. Interment will follow in Destin Memorial Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will be in the church's Fellowship Hall following the interment.

Claude Kurt Gabriel
Claude Kurt Gabriel, 44, of Destin, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mr. Gabriel was born Aug. 15, 1955, in Masawa, Japan. He lived in Fort Walton Beach for many of his younger years, graduating from Fort Walton Beach High School. He attended Marquette University and culinary school in Switzerland.
Mr. Gabriel lived in Milwaukee, Chicago and Naples, Fla., before moving to Destin.
In Milwaukee he managed several five-star restaurants including the Red Circle Inn/Provini Veal, owned by the Pabst family. He also was a yacht broker and consultant in Chicago. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed sailing and racing.
Mr. Gabriel is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Gabriel of Destin; sons Brian Lee Grant and Elliot Lee Grant of Destin; parents Robert and Marie Gabriel of Shalimar; brother Mark Gabriel of Destin and his son, Mark Jr. of North Carolina; sister Bobbie Sue Biro and husband, Charles, and their sons, Lyon Disbrow and Robert Jerry Banner, of Merritt Island; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Clary; sister-in-law Carole Clary of Destin; brother-in-law Charlie Clary and wife, Beth, and their daughters, Joanna and Laura, of Destin; and extended family.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29. Services will be at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Don Kirby officiating.

Louis Henry Kellogg
Louis Henry Kellogg, 83, of Santa Rosa Beach, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999.
Mr. Kellogg and his wife, Patricia, retired to Santa Rosa Beach in 1978 from New Jersey. He was a member of the South Walton Citizens Advisory Committee and actively supported preserving state-owned lands in their natural state.
Before retiring to Florida, Mr. Kellogg was an engineer with Bell Telephone Laboratories. He contributed to that company's research in missile guidance systems, on which he worked after being discharged from the U.S. Army after World War II.
He was recognized in the American Association of Engineering Society's Who's Who in Engineering and received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Army for his work in missile research.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, five children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A family memorial service was held.
Those interested may contribute to the charity of their choice.
Charles L. Padgett
The Rev. Charles L. Padgett, 75, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999.
The Rev. Padgett was a minister for 46 years and a resident of Millbrook, Ala.
He was born on June 22, 1924, in Fairfax, Ala. He served in the Air Force from 1942-46.
He was a graduate of Springhill College in Mobile, Ala., and received a bachelor of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
During his ministry, he pastored churches in Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Florida. He was serving as vice president for Ministry of the Baptist Foundation of Alabama.
After retirement from the pastorate, he served as interim pastor for several churches in Alabama, the last being First Baptist Church in Hope Hill, Ala.
The Rev. Padgett was preceded in death by a grandson, Jon-Terence Padgett.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne R. Padgett; four children, Bede Padgett Coggin of Mobile, Ala., Cindy Padgett Coggin of Muskegon, Mich., Terry L. Padgett of Destin, and Joel R. Padgett of Birmingham, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
Services were Friday, Oct. 8, at First Southern Baptist Church in Hope Hill.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Destin Cemetery in Destin.

Chester E. Jarvis
Dr. Chester E. Jarvis of Destin died Oct. 3, 1999, at the Manor at Bluewater Bay in Niceville. He was 89.
Dr. Jarvis was born May 17, 1910, in Stockton, Calif., the son of the late Edward and Catherine Campbell Jarvis.
He graduated with a bachelor of arts and master of arts in history from the University of California at Berkeley. He received a doctor of philosophy degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Jarvis served in the Army during World War II and later was in the Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of captain.
His college teaching career began at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and continued at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa. He retired in 1980 and was named professor emeritus.
In 1984, he and his wife moved to Destin.
A sister, Edre Hull, and a son, William Fraser Jarvis, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline "Peg" Fraser Jarvis; a sister, Wilma Jacobsen; two grandsons and their wives, Ian Fraser Jarvis and Sandra, and Peter Fraser Jarvis and Tina; a great-grandson, William Fraser Jarvis; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Diane Jarvis; a number of nieces and a nephew; a brother-in-law, George W. B. Fraser; a sister-in-law, Donna Reid Fraser of Enfield, Nova Scotia; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Rachilla Naples.
Complying with Dr. Jarvis' wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Gulf of Mexico.
James 'Red' Stephen Benedict
James "Red" Stephen Benedict, 45, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, from injuries suffered in a skydiving incident in Rome, Ga.
An employee of Saturn, he was born in Dearborn, Mich. and made his home in Thompson Station. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his father, Bob Benedict of Southfield, Mich.; his mother, Theresa Benedict of Destin; a brother, Mark Benedict of Novi, Mich.; and sisters Nancy Benedict of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Tamara Meffer of Redford, Mich.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Saturn United Auto Workers Hall in Spring Hill, Tenn., with Chaplain Larry Powell officiating.
Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Louise Castro
Mildred Louise Castro, 75, of Warrington, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Destin.
Castro was born in Destin and had been a resident of Warrington for the past 52 years.
She was a nurse and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1947. She retired from Sacred Heart Hospital after 36 years.
Castro is survived by her husband, Arnold B. Castro Sr., of Warrington; three sons: Arnold B. Castro Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, Karl P. Castro of Corona, Calif., and Randall D. Castro of Pensacola; her mother, Kathleen Jones of Destin; one brother, Herman W. Jones; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Pensacola with the Rev. Richard Altenbaugh as celebrant. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel of Pensacola is handling arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
