Baginski, Wilhelmine B.

Wilhelmine M. Baginski 75, of Punta Gorda passed away May 31, 2004. She was the daughter of Leopold and Wilhelmina (Goebel) Burgert, born August 29, 1928 in Germany. She immigrated from Germany in 1957 and worked as a drapery designer/maker before retiring. Wilhelmine was a member and volunteered at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Akron, Ohio. She and her husband moved to Punta Gorda in October of 2000.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years Vincent Baginski; daughters Antonia (Antonio) Polera; Ursula Brown, Andrea Baginski , Tina (Todd) Ratcliff all of Akron, Ohio and Karen (Harley) Betz, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; son Vincent W. Baginski of Punta Gorda; three grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; along with multiple extended family from Germany; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 11:00 - 12:30 p.m, Friday, June 4 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services with the service in celebration of Wilhelmine’s life following at 1:00 p.m. at San Antonio Catholic Church with Father Phil Scheff officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial garden will be established in her name.

Albert Wilson Geist

After courageously battling chronic illness, Albert Geist died June 2, 2004 in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born July 29, 1916 in Mongo, Indiana to George and Florence Geist, he delivered groceries to his parents’ customers in Mishawaka, Indiana. After graduating from Mishawaka High School in 1934, Mr. Geist obtained an Associate's Degree at the South Bend Business College, and wed Wanda (Kaplon) in 1941 at St Paul's Church in Mishawaka. He implemented new computer technologies for aerospace projects at Bendix, volunteered as a scoutmaster and YMCA chess teacher, and enthusiastically supported the Masons, the Episcopal Church, the MHS Alumni Association, and the Mishawaka Garden Club. Following retirement, he computerized his son’s medical practice. The couple divided their time between Mishawaka and Florida before settling in Punta Gorda. Swing music was a lifelong passion.

Surviving Al are Wanda, daughters Patricia (Peter) Stiles of Chicago, and Dr. Beverly (Wolfgang) Barth of Atlanta, GA; son Dr. Robert Geist of Middletown, CT; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A son, George (Mary) Geist of Mishawaka predeceased him.

Father Vincent Scotto of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Punta Gorda will celebrate a memorial service June 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM, with donations welcomed to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 W. Henry Street, Punta Gorda, FL, 33950, or the University of Florida, McKnight Brain Institute, P.O. Box 100015, Gainesville, FL 32610-0015, Attn: Human Brain Tissue Bank.

Burns, Hannah Ann

Hannah Ann Burns, 7 of Port Charlotte passed away June 2, 2004. Born October 16, 1996 in Evergreen Park, ILL. She attended First grade in Genesis Christian School and was looking forward to Second grade at Community Christian School. Hannah attended Abundant Life Assembly and enjoyed art classes.

Hannah will be greatly missed by grandparents John and Cynthia Burns of Port Charlotte; mother Ruth Ann Burns of Pt Charlotte; great-grandmother Mary Burns of Oaklawn, ILL; great-aunt and uncle Robert and Marilyn Burns of Chicago, ILL; cousins Robert Jr and Maggie Burns both of Chicago, ILL and Beth Burns of Portland, OR.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 10th at First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte with Rev. Errol Morgan officiating. The family requests memorial donations be made to Hannah Burns Scholarship and School Fund at Community Christian School 20035 Quesada Blvd. Pt. Charlotte, FL 33952 or Hannah Burns Fund for Re-establishment of Long Term Psychiatric Facilities, Fifth 3rd Bank, St. Armands Key, Sarasota, FL .

Abraham, Maria

Maria D. Abraham, 92 of Port Charlotte passed away June 7, 2004. She was the daughter Antonio and Fedela (Marquez) Velez born April 19, 1912 in Puerto Rico. She was of the Catholic faith and a homemaker who enjoyed her family.

Maria will be greatly missed by daughters Alma (George) Waterman of Pt. Charlotte, Felecita (Hiram) Lopez of White Plains, NY and Aida (Juan) Lugo of Pt. Charlotte; son Nemensio (Fulvia) Abraham, Jr of Freeport, NY; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Nemensio Sr and son Francisco Abraham.

Services will be held in New York at later date.

Boccio, Donato

Donato L. Boccio, 72 of Port Charlotte passed away June 10, 2004. He was the son of Vincenzo and Josephina (Catapano) Boccio, born December 15, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY.

Donato served in the Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a insurance salesman for Prudential before retiring. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte Elks, American Legion Post 110, Italian American Club, Sons of Italy and Knights of Columbus. Donato and his wife moved to the Port Charlotte area in 1987 from Queens, NY.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Marcella; daughters JoAnn (Joseph) Caiazzo of Garden City, NY; son Vincent (Connie) Boccio of Punta Gorda; sister Antoinette Boccio of Howard Beach, NY; grandchildren Rene Caiazzo and Michele - Marie Caiazzo both of Garden City, NY, Francine & Donato Boccio of Punta Gorda.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday, June 11 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services Punta Gorda Chapel. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Donato’s life will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, June 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of SW Florida 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.

Starks, James A.

James Anthony Starks, 72 of Charlotte Harbor passed away June 9, 2004. He was the son of James and Josephine (Dymon) Starks, born May 16, 1932, in Mechanicville, NY. James served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War before retiring as Master Sargent. He was a member of Gunner Association, Deep Creek Golf Club and American Legion. James and his wife moved to the Charlotte Harbor area in 1979 from Virginia Beach, VA.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Laura; sons Mitchell and Marshall Starks both of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Helen Behan of Mechanicville, NY; four grandchildren.

The inurnment will at Saratoga National Cemetery.

Ogle, Mary E.

Mary E. Ogle, 88, of Port Charlotte passed away June 11, 2004. She was the daughter of Val and Emma (Stillabower) Wendel, born January 14, 1916 in Columbus, IN. Mary owned a grocery store in Columbus for over 25 years, and sold real estate for many years before retiring and moving to Florida in 1975.

Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mary Jane Aynes of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Robert Aynes of Indianapolis, IN, Stephen Aynes of Port Charlotte, and Stephanie Vulpetti and Tyson Ogle, both of Grand Rapids, MI; great-grandchildren, Angelique Aynes and Rolando Chavez, both of Indianapolis, IN, and Morgan and Annina Vulpetti, both of Grand Rapids, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Ogle, and son, Stephen V. Ogle.

No services are planned at this time.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda.

Stevens, E. Robert

E. Robert “Bob” Stevens, 70 of Punta Gorda passed away June 12, 2004. He was the son of Guy and Agnes (Draper) Stevens, born October 1, 1933 in Lansing, MI. Bob served in the United States Army, then worked for Ford Motor County as a mechanical engineer before retiring. He and Sandra formerly of Detroit, Michigan have resided in Punta Gorda since1994. Bob was a member of Punta Gorda Elks, Shriners, S.N.O.O.P.Y., Masons and Conquistadors were among a few of the numerous organizations he belonged.

Bob will be greatly missed by his best friend and wife of 29 years, Sandy; beloved pet Snoopy; son Thomas R (Cindy) Stevens of Hamburg, MI; daughters Tambra A. (Gary) Lockwood of S. Lyon, MI and Connie L. (Phil) Hampton of S. Lyon, MI; granddaughter Ashley L. Lockwood.

No services are planned at this time. The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of S.W. Florida 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238

Green, Cornell C.

Cornell C. Green, 57 of Port Charlotte passed away June 10, 2004 at home. She was the daughter of James Doss and Mammie (Clyatt) Towns, born August 20, 1946 in Tifton, GA. Cornell worked as a register nurse at all three hospitals before retiring. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. in Punta Gorda, Community Resource Center in Punta Gorda and volunteered at American Cancer Society.

She will be greatly missed by her parents James and Mammie Towns; sons Howard Green of Miami, FL and James (Misty) Green of Pt. Charlotte; sisters Virginia (Larry) Harden of Ft. Myers, FL and Kay Collier of Tifton, GA; grandchild James Green III.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 18 at Bethel A.M.E. Church. There will be a time of fellowship with the family immediately following the service. The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of SW Florida 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238 or Community Resources Center.

Philbrick, Raymond A. Jr.

Raymond A. Philbrick, Jr., 80, of North Port passed away June 13, 2004. He was the son of Raymond A. Philbrick, Sr. and Carrie (Little) Philbrick, born April 28, 1924 in Lawrence, MA. He served with the Army during WWII in Europe and the Pacific, and was a stationary engineer for Lawrence Hospital for 15 years before retiring. He came to this area in 1997 from Salem, NH. Raymond loved flying and had his private pilot's license since the late 1940's, he was also a certified ultralight flight instructor. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., the US Ultralight Assn., the Aero Sports Connection, and the American Modelers Assn.

Raymond will be greatly missed by his wife of 43 years, Gloria.

A gathering of friends will be 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, with the service in celebration of Raymond's life immediately following.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Center of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte.

Wigglesworth, David W.

David W. Wigglesworth, 78, of Punta Gorda, FL and formerly of Wichita, KS passed away July 16, 2004 in Punta Gorda, FL. He was born June 28, 1926 in Davenport, Iowa to Frank and May (Boettcher) Wigglesworth. David graduated from St. Ambrose University with degrees in psychology and philosophy, and served in the United States Army Air Corps.

He worked in the traffic signal industry. His career began in the factory of the Eagle Signal Company in Davenport, Iowa. After accepting a position as sales representative for the Hundley Company in San Francisco, he moved his family to California. In 1969, David moved to Wichita to become a partner in Gades Sales, a company representing several manufactures of traffic signal equipment. David spent twenty-two years with Gades Sales, retiring as owner and president.

David retired to Punta Gorda in 1991 where he and his wife, Kathryn became active members of the Church of the Good Shepard. David was an avid boater. He was a member and an instructor for both the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the U.S. Power Squadron. Locally, he was a member of the Punta Gorda Isles Yacht Club. A devoted husband and father, David particularly enjoyed any activities that placed him in the company of his family. He will be lovingly remembered for his humorous nature, his kind heart and his generous spirit.

David will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Kathryn Elizabeth (Terry) of Punta Gorda; two sons Terry (Marilyn) of San Clemente, CA and Michael (Anne) of Punta Gorda, FL ; two daughters Judy (Richard) Harvey of Wichita, KS and Carole (Scott) Childs of Goddard, KS; eight grandchildren Kelly (Irvin) Clevenger of Greenfield, MA, Billy (Cena) Harvey of Garden Plain, KS, Ann (Michael) Rudy of Wichita, KS, John Voth of Goddard, KS, Jeb Voth of Overland Park, KS, Laura Wigglesworth of Laguna Hills, CA, Scott Wigglesworth of Kansas City, MO and Michael Wigglesworth of San Clemente, CA; seven great-grandchildren Kati and Jamison Clevenger, Janelle, Scott and Joseph Harvey, Gabriel Voth, Lauren and Mathew Rudy; sister Mary (Jack) Curley of Valencia, CA and a chocolate Labrador Retriever Chewy who never left his master’s side. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara May, brother Robert and his great-grandson Christopher Clevenger.

A memorial service in celebration of David’s life will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22 at the Church of the Good Shepard in Punta Gorda with Rev. Vincent F. Scotto officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Good Shepard Memorial Fund, 401 W. Henry St. Punta Gorda, FL.
