Jeff Jackley
Jeff Jackley, 49, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, after a brief illness, in Campobello, S.C.
He was born
in Aurora, Ill., the son of Arden Theo Jackley of Aurora and Mary Pauline Neises Cuchna of Bloomington, Wis.
Jeff was a longtime resident and business owner in Port Charlotte.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Jennifer O'Rourke of Campobello, S.C.; a son, Joshua Jackley of Port Charlotte; one sister, Shelia Hampton of Bloomington, Wis.; and one brother, Rich Cuchna of Manchester, Md.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Seawright

Edward Moeller
Edward Moeller, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Sarasota Health Care Center, Sarasota, Fla.
He was born
Jan. 3, 1913, in Hoboken, N.J., and moved to Charlotte County in 1982 from Manhattan, N.Y. He followed in his father's footsteps and was in retail sales. He was a member of the VFW Post 5690, American Legion Post 110, and the Order of the Sons of Italy in America 2507, all of Port Charlotte. Edward was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and served under General Patton.
Edward loved being a volunteer at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, where he put in many hours volunteering. He always brought the prize for the "Life Goes On" program and enjoyed helping in the kitchen area. He also played with the "Fun With Music" group where he played the violin, which he played since he was 4 years old. He played in the Cultural Center Pops Orchestra. He was a dear, sweet man who will be missed very much.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Jean of Port Charlotte; two sons, Theodore Moeller of Toms River, N.J., and Stanley Moeller of Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada; a brother, Alfred Moeller of Manhattan, N.Y.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. Rabbi Herbert Rose of Temple Shalom will officiate.

Wallace L. Owen
Wallace "Wally" Linwood Owen, 80, of Clarksboro, N.J., and formerly of Glassboro, N.J., and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at home.
Wally was raised in Pitman and Camden, N.J., and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He attended Drexel University before serving in World War II. Wally served with photo reconnaissance units in China with the 14th Army Air Corps/Flying Tigers. Following the war, he was the composing room foreman of Curtis Publishing Co. until 1968, then worked for the Gloucester County Times as the creative service director until retiring in 1985, when he moved to Port Charlotte. Wally and his wife returned to New Jersey in 2000, residing in Clarksboro. He was a member of Faith Alliance Church in Sewell, N.J. His many interests and hobbies included Japanese bonsai, model ship building and biblical archaeology. He was an avid amateur photographer, using his talent to take pictures for his church, Air Force Association, friends and family. He received an award for his photograph "Sunrise" from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Dorothy (nee Cave); daughter, Joan (Karl) Wendt of Clarksboro; grandson, William; son, Barry (Merri) Owen of Pitman; grandson, Matthew; granddaughter, Meredith; and brother, Carlton S. of North Cape May, N.J.
Friends may call after 9 a.m., with funeral services at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Kelley Funeral Home, Pitman. Interment will be in Eglington Cemetery, N.J.

Sophia Paparesta
Sophia Paparesta, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.
She was born
Feb. 10, 1911, in Istanbul, Turkey, and immigrated to the United States in 1920. Mrs. Paparesta moved to Port Charlotte in 1974 from Bronx, N.Y.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Reed of Macungie, Pa; two sons, Christopher Corsano of Southampton, N.Y., and Philip Corsano of Bronx; her companion, Genero Genova of Port Charlotte; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. The Rev. J. Ralph Burton will officiate.

Pearl E. Graham
`Pearl E. Graham, 83, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Feb., 5, 2003, at Englewood Community Hospital, Englewood.
Mrs. Graham was born
March 16, 1919, in Owego, N.Y., to Claude and Ethel (White) Relyea. Family was a great part of Pearl's life; she was one of nine children, a mother of seven, grandmother of 21 and great-grandmother of 35. Pearl has often been referred to as "everyone's grandma" and she will be missed by her many life-long friends and family and especially by special friends, Bev and Douglas Graham of Englewood.
Surviving are her sons, William of Englewood, Larry of Columbia Crossroads, Pa., and David of Venice, Fla.; daughters, Verna Rogers of Englewood and Patricia Brown and Barbara Van Dewark, both of Sayre, Pa.; brothers, Floyd "Zeke" Ralyea of Owego, N.Y., Richard Ralyea of Candor, N.Y., and Vergil Ralyea of Englewood; and a sister, Betty Morris of Georgia.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, James Graham Sr.; son, James Graham Jr.; two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel, with funeral services following at 6 p.m. Interment will be later at Bradford County Memorial Park in Towanda, Pa.

Dean Moore
Dean Moore, 53, of Cape Haze, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, after a brave fight against cancer.
He was born
Jan. 30, 1949, in Waco, Texas. He moved to this area 15 years ago from Houston, Texas. Dean was a paramedic in Lee County. He was also a licensed professional boat captain with years of experience in the Caribbean and the Pacific as well as the Peace River. He had also been employed at Ambitrans in Port Charlotte and in surgery at Community Eye Center in Port Charlotte. Dean was a professional photographer. In the past, he ran a landscaping business, and he loved cruising aboard Braveheart.
Survivors include his companion, Maureen O'Leary; mother, Doris Reddell of Rye, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Moore of Alvin, Texas; sisters, Laura Pierce and Star Ellis of Rye; niece, Heather Barone of Aspin, Colo.; nephew, Jonathon Long of Houston; uncle, Thomas Sisco of Killeen, Texas, and many close friends.
Friends and family will gather for a celebration of his life on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Harbor Heights Park.

Annabel L. Anderson
Annabel L. (Barnhart) Anderson, 67, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 3, 2003, at her residence in Port Charlotte.
She was born
March 6, 1935, in Struthers, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1978 with her husband after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed sewing, crafts, traveling and taking care of her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson was also a member of Fairview Methodist Church in Niles, Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Anderson of Port Charlotte; son, Timothy (Kathryn) Anderson of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.; daughters, Terri and Traci Anderson of Port Charlotte; brothers, Charles Barnhart of Vieanna, Ohio, and Ray (Glady) Barnhart of New Bedford, Pa.; sisters, Lila (Russell) Burns of Mentor, Ohio, Loretta (Bill) Butler of Courtland, Ohio, and Peggy (Estil) Thornsberry of Niles; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Floyd Barnhart; and brothers, Ralph and Gary Barnhart.

Howard W. Evans Jr.
Howard W. Evans Jr., 67, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Feb. 4, 2003.
He was born
in Landisville, Pa., the son of the late Howard and Helen Evans. Howard was a former resident of Lancaster, Pa., and came to this area in 1997 along with his wife, Patricia Evans. Howard worked as a long-distance truck driver for 36 years for Alcoa Aluminum Co. (formerly Alumax Aluminum) in Lancaster, and most recently was employed at Kingsway ACE Hardware, Port Charlotte. He was a former CAP and CHEC volunteer, and was a member of Elks Lodge 2606, Burnt Store Boat Club and Burnt Store Country Club. He enjoyed hunting, playing tennis, bowling and NASCAR racing.
Howard was a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, Patricia; children, Jana Metzler of Lancaster and Jeffrie Evans of York, Pa.; two grandchildren; and sisters, Julie Jones and Debra Eberly, both of Pennsylvania.

Nelly Lebron
Nelly Lebron, 57, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Feb. 2, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
She was born
Dec. 28, 1945, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, to Julio Lizardi and Carmelina Boria. She came to Port Charlotte in 1979. Her loved ones will remember her as a unique and friendly person. She was passionate about cooking and her family.
She leaves behind her loving husband, David Lebron; her two children, David (Michelle) Lebron of Port Charlotte and Loyda (Dan) Whitney of North Carolina; her two wonderful grandchildren, Brooke and Joshua; and several brothers and sisters, including her sister with whom she shared a special relationship, Julia Acevedo of Jacksonville, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a funeral service at 4 p.m., Feb. 6 at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home.

Carl P. Panetti Sr.
Carl P. Panetti Sr., 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 1, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born
Jan. 2, 1918, in Lilly, Pa., to Angelo Panetti and Adeline Massicci, and came to this area two years ago from Orlando, Fla. Mr. Panetti was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Potter McCune in Greensburg, Pa., and Monesson in Fairmont, W.Va. He also worked for Sterling Drug Co. and International Paper. Mr. Panetti moved to Orlando in 1978 and was employed by Hi Neighbor. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Orlando, where he was coordinator of the ministry to the sick for 14 years and was also a Eucharistic minister. Mr. Panetti was also president of the Italian-American Club and the Parish Council. He moved to Punta Gorda in 2000, settling in Deep Creek, Fla. Mr. Panetti was a member of Deep Creek Elks Lodge 2763 and San Antonio Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Theresa; son, Carl Jr. (JoAnn) of Orlando; daughters, Lynda (Jim) Aldridge of New Alexandria, Pa., and Mary Beth Amos of Canton, Mich.; sisters, Mary Parise, Carolyn (Pat) Moffe, Augustina (Paul) Plevelich, all of Greensburg, Pa., and Antoinette (John) Mari of Youngswood, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Frances Panetti and Lois Yarber of Orlando; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Heather and Katherine Panetti, Brian Phillips, Sarah and Daniel Amos and David and John Pellegrin; and great-grandchildren, Allyson and Annabelle Joy, and Kayla Phillips and Kyle and Alexander Pellegrin. Mr. Panetti was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene; brother, James; sisters, Jane Jordan and Louise Haman; and daughter, Patricia Phillips in April 2002.

Walter C. Read Jr.
Walter C. "Wally" Read Jr. 89, passed away Feb. 3, 2003, at home.
Born Jan. 26, 1914, in Port Jefferson, N.Y., he moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1981 from Hampton Bays, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Read; four children, Walter C. III of Bloomington, N.Y., Diane Lindsay of Coronado, Calif., Pat Behrle of Raleigh, N.C., and Claudia Salter of Port Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Walter IV, Katrina and Ian Read, Courtney, Matt and Dan Behrle, Tiffany Stover, Chris and Jessie Salter and Kali Lindsay.

Anne R. Signore
Anne R. Signore, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Jan. 31, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Anne was born
July 26, 1918, in Providence, R.I., to the late Alfred and Theresa Dimente. She moved to Port Charlotte 12 years ago from Johnston, R.I., with her husband, Albert John Signore. She will be remembered as the matriarch and great caregiver of her family. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She leaves behind her four children, Ann (Robert) Wombolt of Port Charlotte, Albert Signore of Fort Myers, John (Erin) Signore of Port Charlotte, and Cynthia (Richard) Walason of Cranston, R.I.; seven siblings, Stella McLaughlin of North Providence, R.I., Claire Shippee of Cranston, Rose Laurito-Cesino of Warwick, R.I., Pauline Ursillo of Warwick, Antonette "Honey" Carbone of Warwick, Tessie Anderson-Cochran of Warwick and Alfred Dimente of North Hollywood, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Robert Wombolt Jr. of Port Charlotte, Lana Parent of Providence, R.I., Albert Wombolt III of Bisbee, Ariz., Andrea Signore of Tampa, Fla., Sean Signore of Port Charlotte, Savanna Signore of Port Charlotte, Stephen Walason of Cranston and Nicole Walason of Cranston; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her loving husband, Albert; she was also predeceased by a sister, Marion Manni; and a brother, Anthony Dimente.

Edith M. Walls
Edith Madeline Walls, 93, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 1, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born
Oct. 5, 1909, in North Manchester, Ind., and moved to Punta Gorda in 1972 from there. She was a retired employee of Triwec Co. of North Manchester and a member of First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol L. Kelly of Punta Gorda and Evelyn Hiers of Fairmont, Ind.; a son, Joe Walls of Wabash, Ind.; three sisters, Josephine Hibbs of Columbia City, Ind., Dorotha Zinsmeister of Huntington, Ind., and Virginia Balsbaugh of Denver, Ind.; a brother, Edward Gilbert of Punta Gorda; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walls was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Walls, last year; and a son, Gilbert Walls, in 1972.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Feb. 4, at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda chapel. Interment will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda chapel.
Robert J. Witteck
Robert "Bob" J. Witteck, 67, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Jan. 25, 2003, at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.
Born Dec. 2, 1935, in Queens, N.Y., Bob, a retired commercial roofer, moved to this area of Florida in 1995 from Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, PGI Girls & Boys, PGI Fishing Club and was an active supporter of Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gorda. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Lori Witteck; two sons, John of Florida and Jason of Long Island; a daughter, Deborah of Florida; a brother, William "Bill" Witteck of Long Island; two sisters, Eileen Thompson of Florida and Carol Caporaso of Long Island; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Feb. 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda.

Bernice L. Young
Bernice Louise Young, 96, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Venice, Fla., passed away Feb. 2, 2003.
She was born
Bernice Shannon on May 13, 1906, in Elkhart, Ind. Bernice and her husband, Dwight, moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from Jackson, Mich., in 1955. They resided in Fort Lauderdale for 41 years. They relocated to Venice in 1996. Bernice moved to Port Charlotte upon the death of her husband in 1998 and has since resided at Bon Secours Place of Port Charlotte.
She is survived by son-in-law, David A. Fultz of Grand Blanc, Mich.; granddaughters, Sherrie M. (Michael) Moody of Port Charlotte, and Lori J. (Stephen) Birman of Canton, Mich.; grandson, Brian D. (Lori) Fultz of Midland, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Adam, Erin and Keven Moody, Eric and David Fultz, Jordon, Taylor and Morgan Birman. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight C. Young; and daughter, Joyce A. Fultz.
A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 5, with her Bon Secours Place second family of friends and staff, in the Bon Secours Place second-floor activity area.
Jack D. Short
Jack Denver Short, 77, of Englewood, Fla., died Feb. 1, 2003, at Englewood Community Hospital.
Born June 6, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to John and Carrie (Irwin) Short, he had been a resident of Englewood for just under two years, coming from Addison, Ill. Mr. Short retired as a mechanic for the Greyhound Bus Co. in Chicago, Ill., in 1987, after 37 years. He was a member of Gulf Cove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Melva Short of Englewood; two sons, Robert Short of Lothian, Md., and Richard Short of Bowie, Md.; two stepdaughters, Sandra Palmer of Englewood and Judith Kline of Clinton, Md.; a sister, Jean Arlow of Norwalk, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Short and Robert Short Jr.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 5, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road, with the Rev. Scott Farman, pastor of Gulf Cove United Methodist Church, officiating.

Gardner R. Small
Gardner R. Small, 85, of Englewood, Fla., and formerly of Putnam, Conn., died peacefully Jan. 26, 2003, at Matulaitis Nursing Home with his wife by his side.
He was born
April 16, 1917, in Northwood, N.H., the first child of 13 born
to John and Florence (Arlin) Small. He was the beloved husband of Katherine (Dunn) Piciarelli Small. He was a resident of Englewood, where he and his wife were active in the Polynesian Village for many years. He retired from The Trust Co. of New Jersey and, after moving to Killingly, was employed at Connecticut Bank & Trust of Hartford, Conn., and also the state of Connecticut Department of Labor in Danielson, Conn. He was a communicant of St. Raphael's Church in Englewood and St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. Gardner was an active member of the Brooklyn (Conn.) Tennis Club, Venice (Fla.) Tennis Club, Putnam Lions Club; and served as treasurer for many years and active member of BPO Elks Lodge 2378 in Englewood. His final days were spent at the nursing home, with the caring and dedication of the staff making his days comfortable.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; two sons, John Small of Delray Beach, Fla., and Richard Small of Caldwell, N.J.; a daughter, Carol Coffey of Milltown, N.J.; a brother, Elliott Small of Lake Worth, Fla.; eight sisters, Jo Ann Moganson of Dayville, Christine Avery of Woodstock, N.H., Marjorie Fulton of Raleigh, N.C., Virginia Delisle of East Hampstead, N.H., Shirley Noyes of Concord, N.H., Elizabeth Ascani of Concord, Nancy Anderson of Dover, N.H., and Rachel Wade of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren; stepchildren, Vincent (Linda) Piciarelli and Lorraine (Norman) Labrecque; and step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (Delaney) Small of New Jersey.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Pomfret, Conn., followed by military honors. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam, in the spring.
