Claircina D. Savain, 33, of North Port, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was born
Jan. 26, 1970, in St. Marc, Haiti, and came to this area seven years ago from Bradenton, Fla. Mrs. Savain worked as a glazier for PGT. She was of the Catholic faith.

Sotero Cornejo, 45, of Arcadia, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
He was born
Sept. 15, 1957, in Atotonilco, Mexico. He moved to Arcadia 20 years ago from Mexico. He was a citrus crew leader. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Eliud Cornejo of Arcadia; five daughters, Narce Dalia Cornejo of Salt Lake City, Utah, Flora Cornejo, Vienette Cornejo, Sandra Cornejo and Celestina Cornejo, all of Arcadia; two sons, Isidro Cornejo and Sotero Cornejo Jr., both of Arcadia; and three sisters, Elena (Pablo) Saucedo of Texas, Tecla (Antonio) Renteria of Tyler, Texas, and Senaida Cornejo of Mexico. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paulino Cornejo and Arturo Cornejo.
Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 18, Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Arcadia. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery in Arcadia. Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.
Donald B. Davis Sr.
Donald Buckingham Davis Sr., 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., Annapolis, Md., and Madison, Conn., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.
He was born
May 13, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a loving husband and a loving father.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Weaver); his children, Richard and Angel Davis of Rock Hill, S.C., Steven and Nancy Davis of Old Lyme, Conn., Kenneth and Vicki Davis of Scituate, Mass., Donald and Atoussa Davis of Arnold, Md., and Elizabeth and Randy Budge of Westminster, Md.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Joyce (Caswell) Davis; his brother, Jim Davis; his sister, Jackie Ahern; and his grandson, Rick Davis.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in Maryland.

Barbara J. Scott
Barbara Jean Scott, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, in Port Charlotte.
Barbara was born
March 13, 1927, in Corsicana, Texas, the daughter of Richard H. and Alice E. Harwell. She was the beloved wife of Derrill D. Scott. The couple had been married 57 years and moved to Port Charlotte 30 years ago from Alexandria, Va. Mimi, as she was affectionately called, retired from the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., and later was a crossing guard for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. Mimi was known for her love of life, and living it to the fullest. She was happiest when she had her whole family around her.
She leaves behind two sons, Bill (Joyce) Scott and Rocky (Jean) Scott of Fairfax Station, Va.; a daughter, Linda (Robert) Estrada of Port Charlotte; four grandchildren, Lee McDaniel of Alexandria, Kevin and Sheryll Estrada of Port Charlotte and Lyndsey Scott of Fairfax Station; a great-granddaughter, Kylee Estrada of Port Charlotte; and two sisters, Alice McKissack of Wyle, Texas, and Leila Newmark of Port Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Harwell Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis Kenner.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte.

Alan D. Daugherty
Alan Douglas Daugherty, 44, of Englewood, Fla., Honolulu, Hawaii, and formerly of Venice, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in Hawaii.
He was born
Jan. 1, 1959, in Long Island, N.Y. He was a resident of Englewood since 1991. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, working as an aircraft mechanic. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his parents, Carmen and Robert Daugherty of Englewood; a brother, James R. Daugherty of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Enid I. Daugherty of Great Falls, S.C., Doreen E. West of North Port, Fla., and Dorcas A. Milligan of Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Purcell Funeral Home in Bushnell, Fla., with the Rev. Ronald Marecki officiating. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, with military honors rendered by the Marine Corps League 708. Arrangements are by Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell.
Margaret J. Geerinck
Margaret J. Geerinck, 75, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
Mrs. Geerinck was born
Dec. 19, 1927, in Paterson, N.J., to John and Margaret (Hughes) Draper. Margaret was a registered nurse for more than 50 years, retiring from St. Joseph Hospital in Paterson in 1988, when she and her husband, Ed, moved to Englewood from there. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, P. Ed Geerinck; daughter, Patricia Morris of Mahwah, N.J.; sons, Mark of Old Tappan, N.J., and Richard of Beachwood, N.J.; brothers, John Draper of Woodbury, N.J., William Draper of Elmwood Park, N.J., and Joseph Draper of California; and five grandchildren, Marlene, Austin, Trevor, Cameron and Preston Geerinck.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Joseph B. Collins, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born
Feb. 9, 1914, in Clifford, Ind., the son of Alex and Minie Collins. He married Julia Vetter Collins on April 22, 1962, in Columbus, Ind. He retired in 1974 after 35 years at Arvin Industries, where he was a manager of automotive engineering. Mr. Collins moved to Port Charlotte 29 years ago from Columbus. He was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Julia; sons, Daniel Collins of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Stephen Collins of Columbus; and their mother, Mary V. Konkle of Franklin, Ind. Also surviving are his sons, Steven Vetter of Tampa, Fla., Gregory Vetter of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Beverly McDermott of Columbus; his grandchildren, Pam Dunleavy of Dearborn, Mich., Lisa Estep of St. Lyon, Mich., Gwen Fitzpatrick of Pekin, Ind., Steve Vetter Jr., Kurt Vetter, both of Bradenton, Fla., Trisha Campbell of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gary Traylor, in the military, Adam and Seth Collins, Erin Barthlow, Kevin McDermott and Jeff Vetter, all of Columbus; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, and from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, Ind., with the Rev. James Kuchera of First Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery.

Walter E. Meloy
Walter E. Meloy, 97, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
He was born
Sept. 15, 1906, in Zanesville, Ohio, to William Taggart and Ida Alberta (Eschman) Meloy. Mr. Meloy was owner of Meloy Furnace Co. and WEHA Construction Co., both in Zanesville. Mr. Meloy moved to the Port Charlotte area 29 years ago from Zanesville. He was a member of Port Charlotte Church of Christ, where he instructed many classes and was instrumental in the church.
Survivors include his granddaughter, Leslie Jones Schuldt of Port Charlotte; two grandsons, Douglas Keith Jones of Port Charlotte and Jeffery Meloy Jones of Hollywood, Fla.; three great-grandsons, William Schuldt, Nathan Schuldt and Jacob Jones; his sister, Lulu McKee of Cambridge, Ohio; four nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Mabel Meloy; daughter, Linda Jones; sisters, Juanita and Louise; and brothers, Robert, William, Harry, Howard, Clifford and Hubert.
There will be no public visitation. Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Port Charlotte Church of Christ, 20484 Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte, with Robert L. Thomas P. Mullaly
Thomas Patrick "Pat" Mullaly, 56, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla.
Pat was born
May 18, 1947, in Rochester, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He had been a resident of Port Charlotte for 15 years, coming from New York. He was a member of the American Legion for 25 years. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
He left behind his loving wife, Jessica Mullaly; children, Shannon Mullaly, Edward Dailey, Kelly Couchman and Jackie McClaine; two sisters, Maureen Holcolmb and Kathleen Mullaly; two brothers, Mike and Terry Mullaly; six grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Paige, Parker Scholand, Tiffany and Brandon Bunch; and a very lovely former wife, Judge Kathleen Loimer Mullaly.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John A. and Rita Mullaly; and his brother, John Mullaly.
Memorial services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at American Legion Post 110.

Dwight L. Palmer Sr.
Dwight L. Palmer Sr., 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
He was born
March 27, 1921, in Grape Creek, Ill., and moved to this area 14 years ago from Danville, Ill. Mr. Palmer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a maintenance person at St. James Methodist Church and the Veterans Administration hospital, both in Danville.
Survivors include his wife, Norma E. Palmer; daughters, Judy L. Lucas of Fort Myers, Fla., and Cynthia A. Brown of Mooresville, Ind.; son, Dwight L. Palmer Jr. of Danville; grandchildren, Jennifer Estock and Nicole Nelson, both of Florida; Brian Brown and Brenda Connor, both of Indiana; Scott Bays, Mike Palmer and Doug Palmer, all of Illinois; and 12 grandchildren.

Amverell "Amy" Pfaller, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
She was born
Jan. 21, 1920. She moved to Punta Gorda in 1986 from South Bend, Ind.
Amy is survived by her loving husband of more than 64 years, Carl Lewis Pfaller of Punta Gorda; her son, Richard (Renee) Pfaller of South Bend; her daughter, Shirley (Larry) Wygant of Clay Township, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services. Funeral services and entombment will take place in Indiana.

Glenn D. Schaffer Sr.
Glenn D. Schaffer Sr., 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in Richardson, Texas.
Glenn was born
Oct. 17, 1911, in Toledo, Ohio. He married Martha S. Schroder on June 24, 1939. He retired from the Dairymen's Association of Detroit. They lived in and around the Detroit area until 1971, when they moved to Port Charlotte. Glenn was a life member of Detroit Metropolian Craft Masonic Lodge 519, Detroit Ashler Chapter 378, Order of the Eastern Star and a past high priest and life member of Sojourners, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 157. Glenn was a founding member of Port Charlotte Yacht Club, where he remained active until his death.
Survivors include his two daughters, Donna (Les) Abbott of Arlington, Texas, and Carolyn Nystrom of Birmingham, Mich.; son, Glenn (Karen) Jr. of Richardson; grandchildren, Leslie Abbott Jr., Donald Nystrom and Sarah Abbott; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary E. Molthop
Mary E. Molthop, 85, of Rotonda, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
She was born
Thanksgiving day, 1917, to William and Etta Deckman. She lived her early years in Lancaster County, Pa. At Collingswood High School in New Jersey, she lettered all four years in field hockey and basketball. She and Jack Molthop were married in 1939. Mary was the starting right wing on the All-American U.S. Field hockey team that competed in Holland and Great Britain in the early 1950s. This team was the first U.S. women's field hockey team to ever gain a victory in Europe and the team went on to win 13 games on this tour. Mary was South Jersey Women's Amateur Golf Champion and, over many years, won golf championships and received golf awards too numerous to list. She and Jack moved to Florida in 1974 and to Rotonda in 1987. She was a member of Rotonda Golf and Country Club, Englewood Orchid Society and New Jerseyans of Florida. She was a courageous and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacklyn (Robert) Writz of Denver, Colo.; her niece, Kate Stahl of Sarasota, Fla.; and grandsons, Chris of Las Vegas, Nev., and Rob of Boulder, Colo.

Emily D. Schneider, 91, of Arcadia, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
She was born
Dec. 14, 1911, in Long Island, N.Y. She moved to Arcadia 26 years ago from Long Island. She was an office clerk in the sugar industry. She was a member of St. Edmund's Episcopal Church in Arcadia.
She is survived by one brother, Richard H. (Grace) Crawford of Fort Ogden, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Schneider; brothers, William "Bill" Crawford, Elmer Crawford and Frank Crawford; and a sister, Mabel Schaefer.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 17, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsboro Ave., Arcadia. Donald Abbott Sr.
Donald Abbott Sr., 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, after a long illness.
Mr. Abbott was born
May 27, 1916, in Boxford, Mass., and moved to this area in October 1978 from Groveland, Mass. He served in the U.S. Navy's Construction Battalion Unit 1006 during World War II. He was a retired salesman. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Punta Gorda, life member of Elks in Massachusetts and charter member of Elks 2626 in Punta Gorda, Punta Gorda Country Club and Blind Golfers Association, participating in two tournaments in Atlantic City, N.J. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; son, Donald Abbott Jr. of Punta Gorda; sisters, Pauline Hill of Boxford and Barbara Polinchuk of Crestview, Fla.; and brother, Richard Abbott of Groveland.

Katherine M. Robinson
Katherine M. Robinson, 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Huntington, N.Y., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003.
She was born
Oct. 18, 1916, in Cambridge, Mass. She was a graduate of Radcliffe College of Harvard University in 1938, and Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, Mass., in 1939. She served during World War II in the psychological warfare branch of the U.S. Army, stationed in Algiers, Italy. She married William R. Robinson, an executive in international marketing for Exxon Corp., in 1946. She worked at WEED in Boston as assistant sales promotion manager, and as copywriter at Boston Advertising Agency. She moved to Punta Gorda in 1976. Katherine and Bill "Robbie" delivered Meals on Wheels. They enjoyed many classes at the Adult Education Center in Punta Gorda and other local activities. They were members of Isles Yacht Club.
She is survived by two sons, Christopher of Davie, Fla., and William of Holtsville, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Daniel and Kimberly Robinson of New York, and Jeffrey and Kyle Robinson of Florida; one great-grandchild, Ava; and her caregiver, Mercelin Moulton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Robinson.

Dale P. Robson
Dale P. "Pat" Robson, 67, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003.
He was born
March 19, 1936, in Huntington, W.Va., and moved to Punta Gorda in 1997 from Floral City, Fla. He was a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington. He retired in 1996 after 34 years as an agent with State Farm Insurance companies.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary; and daughter, Lea Ann of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. No services are scheduled. National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
