Wayne C. Campbell
Wayne Carson Campbell, 48, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2003.
He was born
March 22, 1955, in Detroit, Mich., the youngest child of Luther and Ruby (Palmer) Campbell. He was an all-star athlete at Mumford High School in Detroit and played football for Florida A&M University. He was on a national championship team and played on the Rattlers team that beat the Miami Hurricanes and quarterback Jim Kelly, 16-13 in 1977. He then went on to play with the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders.
After leaving professional football, Wayne dedicated his life to coaching high school and college football teams, including stints at Port Charlotte High School, Florida A&M, Albany (Ga.) State, and Tuskegee Institute, before returning to Punta Gorda to coach at Charlotte High School. He was also an ESE teacher, working with at-risk students, and, in the short time he was with them, he touched many lives. Those who knew him best know that Wayne's first love was his family. He had a special bond with his children, giving freely of his time to be with them, especially Wayne II, and enjoyed the time they spent engaged in football together. Wayne extended that love to everyone he came in contact with, on and off the football field, and they, in turn, became part of his family. He kept in touch with many of his "kids" throughout the years. For all of his accomplishments on the football field, Wayne will be most remembered for all the ones off the field: his great, happy spirit, his love for his family and friends, and his enjoyment of passing on the game of football and life. Wayne's family wishes to thank the community for all the love and support that they have received.
Wayne will be greatly missed by his wife of 25 years, Sharon; daughters, Ebony (Andrew) Williams of Jacksonville, and Asha Campbell of Port Charlotte; sons, Wayne II and Omari Campbell, both of Port Charlotte; brothers, Luther Campbell, Keith Campbell, Milton Campbell, and Blaine Campbell, all of Detroit; sister, Joya Hart of Detroit; granddaughter, Essence Williams of Jacksonville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Teena M. Sammons
Teena M. Sammons, 54, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.
She was born
March 26, 1949, in New Hartford, N.Y., the daughter of Dorothy Partyka. Teena married John Sammons on Nov. 15, 1969. They came to this area in 1989 from Utica, N.Y. Teena was a registered nurse and was the co-owner of Affordable Staffing Inc. in Port Charlotte. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Her family will always remember her as a loving wife and mother.
Teena will be greatly missed by her husband of 33 years, John; two daughters, Shari (Sergio) Bertuzzi of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Nicole Sammons of Cape Coral, Fla.; brother, Chris (Margaret) Partyka of Utica; nephews, Nicholas and Brian Partyka; and her extended family in New York. She also leaves behind a beloved pet, Kaizer Boy.

Murry W. Wilmot
Murry W. Wilmot, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born
May 23, 1923, in Canada and moved to Port Charlotte in 1985 from Ferndale, Mich. He was an honorably discharged and decorated veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a POW. He was a member of American Legion Post 110 in Port Charlotte, the BPO Elks Lodge 2153 in Port Charlotte, International Motorcycle Touring Club, American Motorcyclist Association, Mid-Michigan BMW Club and National Association of Senior Friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Lois TenEyck of Houghton Lake, Mich., Donna (Bill) Nestor of St. Cloud, Fla., Nancy McNeely of High Springs, Fla., Patricia (Carlos) Gamboa of Westland, Mich., and Elizabeth (Bryan) Headley of Philippi,W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Flory of Beverly Hills, Mich.; and his brother, Thomas Wilmot of Wayne, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1985.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home, with entombment and military honors to follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

William L. Young
William L. Young, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at his residence in Port Charlotte.
He was born
May 26, 1924, in Mount Carmel, Pa., and came to this area 13 years ago from Salem, N.J. Mr. Young was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Young owned and operated an office supply business before retiring to Port Charlotte. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council of St. Jude, Deep Creek Elks Lodge 2763 and Moose Lodge 2121 in Port Charlotte. He was also a private pilot and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and Young Eagles Program. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
Mr. Young will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Young of Port Charlotte; three sons, William L. Young Jr. of Philadelphia, Timothy Young of Marlton, N.J., and Robert Young of Manassas, Va.; one stepson, Kelly McCloskey of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Dorothy Medvetz of Medford, N.J., and Maureen Ostatkovich of Marlton; one brother, Phillip Young of Philadelphia; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in New Jersey. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Camden, N.J.

Dorothy Albritton Keen, 86, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
She was born
April 3, 1917, in Wauchula, Fla. She lived most of her life in Arcadia, Fla., before moving to Lake Placid 11 years ago. She was a nurse's aide in a hospital. She attended LaBelle Church of God in LaBelle, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur L. "Buck" Keen; one daughter, Grace Youmans of Lake Placid; three sons, Edward Walker of Arcadia, Clarence (Shirley) Walker of LaBelle and Quiness (Dorothy) Walker of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons, Dan, Cliff and Earl Walker.

George William Fashauer Sr., 48, of Harbour Heights, Fla., died suddenly Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, in Port Charlotte.
He was born
Jan. 7, 1955, in Paterson, N.J., and came to this area 13 years ago from there. Mr. Fashauer worked as an air-conditioning technician for most of his life, and was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Fashauer will be deeply missed by his children, two sons, George William Fashauer Jr. of Port Charlotte and Anthony J (Tara) Fashauer of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three daughters, Sherry Ann (Tony) Fulcher, Kimberly (Eric) Fashauer and Kristina Fashauer, all of Port Charlotte; mother, Joan T. Hayes of Harbour Heights; two brothers, Thomas (Robinlee) Fashauer Jr. of Harbour Heights and James (Joy) Fashauer Sr. of Orange Park, Fla.; one sister, Theresa Ann (Ellen) Fashauer of Punta Gorda; five grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews from Florida and New Jersey.

Marjorie B. Granitski
Marjorie B. Granitski, 66, of Rotonda West, Fla., lost her brave and courageous battle with cancer Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
She was born
Dec. 18, 1936, in East Meadow, N.Y., the only child of Benjamin and Margaret (Markey) Cairo. She was the beloved wife and best friend for 48 years to Carl Granitski. They lived on Long Island, N.Y., until moving to Florida in 1992. Marjorie was an avid gardener and reader, loved to travel and spend time boating, and was recognized as an excellent cook, wife, mother and grandmother. She played a very active role in raising her two children. She loved being around people and lived everyday to its fullest.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; her daughter, Kathleen M. (Jeffrey) Rosenbaum of Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; son, Richard C. (Denise) Granitski of Shirley, N.Y.; and was beloved "Nanny Pearle" to Christopher, Daniel and Jacqueline Rosenbaum and beloved "Nanny" to Ashlee and Brendan Granitski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

George J. Wagasy
George John Wagasy, 89, of Englewood, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood.
Born Aug. 9, 1914, in Detroit, Mich., to George and Elsie (Kristoffy) Wagasy, he had been a resident of Englewood for 23 years, coming from Oak Park, Mich. Mr. Wagasy was a tool and gauge maker for AA Gauge Co. in Ferndale, Mich., prior to his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rose Wagasy of Englewood; two sons, George (Beverly) Wagasy of Marble, N.C., and Duane Wagasy of West Bloomfield, Mich.; one sister, Elsie Felix of Newaygo, Mich.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Margaret E. Addison
Margaret Elizabeth Addison, 76, formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Lake City, Fla.
She was born
June 5, 1927, in Bartow, Fla., to James and Sarah (Shumate) Rowland. Margaret worked as a licensed practical nurse until retiring. She loved taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret enjoyed sewing, making quilts and canning. She was a former member of Eastern Star.
Margaret will be greatly missed by her sons, Clifford Addison of Lake City, John Addison of Dayton, Ohio, and Lee Agnew of Winter Haven, Fla.; sisters, Mary Sawyer of Arizona and Eleanor Hall of Bartow; brother, Tom Rowland of Bartow; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah (Shumate) Rowland.

Enid Ruth Black, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
She was born
April 25, 1914, in Dayton, Ohio, to Homer and Iola (Rosnagle) Martin. Mrs. Black was a member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Clark of Port Charlotte, Janet Pirozzi of Webster Groves, Mo., and Laura Lowe of Kettering, Ohio; one son, A. V. Black Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. A.V. Black Sr.; her granddaughter, Margaret Black; and her brother, Homer Martin.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at South Port Square, Westchester Club Chapel, Port Charlotte, with the Rev. James R. Kuse officiating.

Connie Hardy
Connie Hardy, 66, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, in Midland, Texas.
Mrs. Hardy was born
Oct. 3, 1936, in Masontown, Pa., to Louis and Sophia Fabbri, the eldest of seven children. She received a bachelor's degree in art and English literature from Seton Hill College. She worked for Boeing in Seattle as a technical illustrator, and owned an art shop in Deadwood, S.D. Mrs. Hardy moved to Midland from Port Charlotte in 1989. She was co-director of the Blakemore Planetarium at the Museum of the Southwest. She also taught for 10 years at Quanah Parker Elementary School. She also held teaching certificates in four states and was an active member of the West Texas Astronomers Club. She was a beloved wife, mother and lifelong educator.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Hardy of Midland, Texas; daughters, Jean (Kurt) Bauer, Colleen (Jim) Hyde of Houston, Texas, and Laura (Joe) Byrnes of Ocala, Fla.; son, William (Cindy) Robertson of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Taylor Bauer, Michael Glover and Scott Kaufman, Courtney and Chase Robertson, and Allison, Kelsey and Eric Hyde; three brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services have been scheduled for noon Saturday, Sept. 20, in the Ellis Funeral Home chapel in Midland, Texas, with Joe Byrnes officiating.

Helmuth E. Hoerner
Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Helmuth Ernest Hoerner, 88, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003.
He was born
Dec. 4, 1914, in West Bend, Wis., to Ernest Johann and Maria Theresa (Senft) Hoerner. Cmdr. Hoerner was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He then worked as an aerospace engineer for McDonnell Douglas for 17 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth N. Hoerner of Punta Gorda; son, Robert E. Hoerner of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Christina A. Wichmann of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sister, Edythe Harrer of North Port, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul H. Russell, First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Kenneth L. Lashmett
Kenneth L. Lashmett, 84, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
He was born
Feb. 25, 1919, in Milford, Neb., and moved to this area in 1972 from Seattle, Wash. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. Mr. Lashmett was a retired appraiser for the Florida Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Elks in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcia Holmdahl of Seattle, Rena Paterna of Punta Gorda and Cindy Pomponio of North Port, Fla.; sisters, Leona McKiel of Nebraska and Phyllis Mullen of Arizona; grandchildren, Ben Britton and Erica McNiff, both of Seattle, Aaron Wiener, Michael Paterna, both of Orlando, Fla., Tristen Wiener of Cape Coral, Fla., and Leah Paterna of Port Charlotte; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Newport Condominium Clubhouse, Kings Highway, Port Charlotte.

Florence Lawler
Florence Lawler, 92, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Michigan.
She was born
Dec. 3, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1975 from Ohio. She had resided in Michigan since 1997. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where she had been an usher for several years.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Aixia) Lawler Jr. of Key Largo, Fla.; her son-in-law, Robert Cameron of Pinconning, Mich.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1987; and her daughter, Phyllis, in August of this year.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda. Laura M. Moore
Laura M. Moore, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, in Port Charlotte.
She was born
April 22, 1917, in Ontario, Canada. Laura worked as a clerk for Kemper Insurance for many years, before retiring in 1988. She had been in Port Charlotte since 1989, coming from Los Angeles, Calif.
Laura is survived by her loving daughter, Bonnie (Dick) Levitan of Groose Pointe Farms, Mich.; sister, Ethel M. Martin of Port Charlotte; two grandchildren, Bradley Levitan of Harper Woods, Mich., and Susan Levitan Lobsinger of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Randy and David Levitan of Harper Woods.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, in 1988; and sister, Jacqueline Barnes, in 2000.
A celebration of Laura's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Bon Secours Place, 18400 Toledo Blade Blvd., Port Charlotte. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Calif., at a later date.

Dorothy Busche
Dorothy Busche, 87, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
Mrs. Busche was born
Nov. 4, 1915, in Washington County, Ind., to John C. and Kate (Harvey) Davis. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in the Jacksonville public school system in Jacksonville, Ill. Following retirement, she and her husband, Henry, moved to Rotonda West from there. She was a member of Hardensburg United Methodist Church in Hardensburg, Ind., and Jacksonville First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. They attended Faith Lutheran Church in Rotonda West.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry E. Busche; son, Frederick D. (Diane) of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Patricia Ann (David) McNamara of North Prairie, Wis.; five grandchildren, Justin, Amber, Bronwyn, Kathryn and Michael; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Faith Lutheran Church at a later date. Funeral services and Burial will be at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. Local arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood chapel.
