Mary Maxine North, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Tandem Health Care in Port Charlotte.
She was born
June 17, 1914, in Wyandotte, Mich.
Mary worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service for many years. She moved from North Adams, Mich. to Port Charlotte in 1984.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Judy (J.D.) Smith of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sons, Ted (Wanda) North of Evansville, Ind., and Basil (Deborah) North of Green Bank, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services and Burial will be held at a later date in North Adams.

Robert R. Rodman Jr.
Robert R. Rodman Jr., 88, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Hospice House of Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. Rodman was born
April 21, 1916, in Astoria, Long Island, N.Y., to Robert Sr. and Cecilia I. (King) Rodman.
He was employed as an assembler with American Bosch Arma until 1964. Following his retirement there, he spent 15 years with Sears Roebuck and Co. in sales, retiring in 1979. He moved from Huntington, Long Island, N.Y. to Englewood in 1983.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jane A. (Blaess); son, Robert R. III and his wife, Joan, of Port Jefferson, Long Island, N.Y.; daughters, Carol Speir of Marlton, N.J., and Cathy McAllister of Frederick, Md.; sister, Dorothy Southwick of Ramona, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Ricky Buhay, John Buhay, Robert R. Rodman IV, Mark Rodman, Michael Rodman, Theresa Rothwell and Timothy McAllister; and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services.

Richard T. Swindell
Richard Theodore Swindell, 76, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his home.
He was born
March 9, 1928, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was the son of schoolteachers Frank and Carmen Swindell.
Richard spent his childhood in the Midwest. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., and began an extensive career in the automotive industry which included tasks from driving and building race cars to managing a fleet of trucks for Sears Roebuck and Co. His career extended to Sears Midwest Training School, teaching the craft that he loved. His expertise with engines included radio-controlled model plane engines. His association with Charlotte Radio Control Society brightened his retirement years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nita, and her three devoted children, Karen Gustafson, Russell Cook and Sara Hudson; six children, Linda Rose Barley, Kathie Lyon, Trudy Smith, Jim Swindell, Karen Ortiz and Richard Scott Swindell; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several stepchildren and their children; one sister, Betty Lowrey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jody Turner.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Robarts Funeral Home, 163 Brevard Ave., Arcadia, Fla. A celebration of Richard's life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Angela M. Sterry
Angela Marianna Sterry, 81, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.
She was the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Dolce) Miceli, born
Feb. 18, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y.
She worked for the Royal Oak School System for 12 years before retiring. Fifteen years ago, Angela and her husband moved from Huntington Woods, Mich., to Punta Gorda. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osprey Investment Club, Emerald Point, Seminole Lakes Association, the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. Angela, or "Binny" as her family knows her, loved to cook, and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was also known for her China paintings.
Binny will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Edward; daughter, Susan E. Griffitt of Manhattan, Kan.; son, Richard E. Sterry of Holderness, N.H.; sister, Beatrice Haskell of Sun City Center, Fla.; grandchildren, Kevin E and Karen E. Kemp and Nicholas and Anne Sterry; and five great-grandchildren.

Mary Ester Frazier, 68, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Arcadia.
She was born
Nov. 11, 1935, in Cortland, N.Y.
Mary moved from Cortland to Arcadia in 1968.
She is survived by one son, David (Shela) Frazier of Waterville, N.Y.; four daughters, Susan (Donald) Schiemer, Helen Frazier, both of Arcadia, Carol Rood of New Port Richey, Fla., and Janet (Steve) Allen of North Port, N.Y.; and one sister, Gertrude Davis of Utica, N.Y. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Ray Frazier.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at the Arcadia chapel of Robarts Funeral Home, 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia. Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004.

David A. Hill
David A. Hill, 75, of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Naples Community Hospital, Naples, Fla.
He was born
in Arcadia, Fla., and was a lifetime resident of Charlotte County. He lived in Punta Gorda, Fla., for many years before moving to Charlotte Harbor. David was the first Republican State Representative for Charlotte County. He was the former owner of Hill Insurance Agency and a licensed real estate broker. He was the owner of Blue Skies Travel Agency of Charlotte Harbor and had traveled in over 100 countries. David was a lifetime member of Rotary International and a charter life member of Elks Lodge No. 2153 of Port Charlotte, member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3296 of Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda Lodge No. 115 F&AM, Araba Temple of the Shrine of Fort Myers, International Order of Odd Fellows of Punta Gorda, Cruise Line International Association, American Society of Travel Agents, Caribbean Tourists Organization, and Pacific-Asia Travel Association. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Charlotte County Cultural Center where he served on the Education Committee. He was also a former special deputy for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
He is survived by his loving sister, Virginia Ruth Hill Muth of Punta Gorda; and numerous cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, until service time at the funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. The Rev. John Gordon of Amherst, Va., will officiate. Interment will follow in Charlotte Harbor Cemetery, Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

Ada Margaret Brown
Ada Margaret Brown, 85 of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 27,
2004 at her residence.
She was born
Nov. 21, 1918 in Rodney, Ontario, Canada, but was a proud U.S. citizen. Mrs. Brown came to this area 28 years ago from Vermillion, Ohio, and was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and the Woman's Club of Port Charlotte. She was also a devoted member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Charlotte.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lee Fifer of Winnetka, Ill., and five grandchildren, Brandton, Aaron, and Michael Brown, and Jessica and Max Fifer, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James Phillip Brown; a son, James Charles Brown; two sisters, Luella Kennedy and Leona Williams; and a brother Maurice Mistele.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Charlotte, with the Revs. Ken and Andrea Berrios officiating. Irene F. Ciapara
Irene F. Ciapara, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Aug. 10, 2004.
She was the daughter of John and Anna (Pupel) Ciapara, born
June 18, 1915, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was an auto parts inspector for Dolher-Jarvis in Grand Rapids for 36 years, and was a member of St. Adalbert's Basilica. She came to Port Charlotte in 1986 from Grand Rapids.
Irene will be greatly missed by her brother-in-law; Herman Vander Heide of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister-in-law, Lottie Szazapanic of Grand Rapids; and nephew, Roger (Sally) Ciapara of Fruitport, Mich.

Erna Ella Guelberg
Erna Ella Guelberg, 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Aug. 25, 2004.
She was the daughter of Albert H. and Anna (Eichhorn) Stuwe, born
Feb. 10, 1919, in Germany.
Erna was an insurance agent, and came to this area in 1990 from Xenia, Ohio. She was of the Lutheran faith and attended the Church of The Good Shepherd in Punta Gorda.
Erna will be greatly missed by her daughters, Viktoria Scotto of Deep Creek, Fla., and Heidi Steger of Jupiter, Fla.; son, John Guelberg of Newburgh, N.Y.; son-in-law, the Rev. Vincent Scotto of Charlotte Harbor; and five grandchildren.

Mark B. McKay
Mark B. McKay, 42, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died tragically Aug. 21, 2004.
Mark was born
Dec. 13, 1961, to Archibald and Lillian McKay in Toronto, Canada. He spent most of his life in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and moved to Punta Gorda 15 years ago. Mark worked as a ranch caretaker and enjoyed fishing and the gun range.
Survivors include his wife of eight years, Rickie McKay of Punta Gorda, his two children; Kyle and Christen McKay of Englewood; a stepdaughter, Teressa Goutreau of Punta Gorda, his mother; Lillian McKay of Toronto; a brother, Jack McKay of Indialantic, Fla.; an aunt, Susan Jackson of Toronto; and an uncle, George McKay of Toronto.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at 5801 Purdy Lane, Punta Gorda, Fla. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home of Punta Gorda is in charge of arrangements.
Alice C. Wilber
Alice C. Wilber, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare, Port Charlotte.
Born Oct. 28, 1913, in Binghamton, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Molly (Walker) Palmer. She married Harry F. Wilber on July 17, 1934. He predeceased her on Jan. 6, 1998. She worked for Security Mutual Life Insurance Company in Binghamton for 17 years until 1978.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Joan W. and Thomas Flynn of Port Charlotte; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald L. and Barbara Wilber, Auburn, Wash., and David T. and Luella Wilber of Berrien Center, Mich.; granddaughters, Cindy, Debbie, Tami and Lisa Wilber, and Pamela and Verne Figg; three great-grandsons, all of the Seattle, Wash., area.
Services will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church St., Montrose, Pa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Carolyn K. Wright
Carolyn K. Wright, 57, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away suddenly Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Port Charlotte.
She was born
Oct. 14, 1946, in Good Hope, Ohio. She was employed as a CNA at the Regency Nursing Home on Harborview Road.
Carolyn is survived by three children, Kim (Ron) Greene of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kathy (L.D.) Hynes and Keith Wright, both of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; two brothers, Richard Curtis and Donald (Patti) Curtis; three sisters, Joanne (Carl) Brady, Janet Davis and Linda McCarty; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two brothers.
Family services will be held in Ohio at a later date. Burial will be held at Washington Cemetery in Washington Courthouse. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 1300 Enterprise Drive, Port Charlotte, FL 33953.

William W. Terry Jr.
William Wayne Terry Jr., 81, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004.
He was born
July 12, 1923, in Oneco, Fla.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a plumber, farmer and commercial contractor. Mr. Terry moved to Arcadia in 1970 from Oneco. He was a former county commissioner of DeSoto County. He was active in community and agricultural organizations; the Oneco Methodist Building Committee; and was a chairman of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia Building Fund. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia.
He is survived by his wife, Una Terry of Arcadia; three daughters, Mary (Kerry) Frances Fitzgerald of Sebring, Fla., Marsha (Butch) Drawdy of Arcadia and Cindy Keen of Labelle, Fla.; a son, William W. (Margie) Terry III of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. military honors will be rendered by the DeSoto County Honor Guard. Mary Margaret Hart, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004.
She was born
in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 8, 1920, and came to the local area in 1984 from Troy, Mich.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Andrew's Golf Club and the Punta Gorda Boat Club, and volunteered for Hospice and the American Cancer Society. She was a graduate of Marygrove College and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.
She is survived by her loving spouse of 60 years and best friend, Joseph; three daughters:, Kathleen Hart of Detroit, Maureen Hart-Kramer of Birmingham, Mich., and Mary Jo Van Tiem of Royal Oak, Mich.; two sons, Joseph S. Hart of Sharon, N.H., and Thomas M. Hart of Aptos, Calif., one sister, Jeanne Stevenson of Melbourne, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Eugene A. Kenney
Eugene A. Kenney, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in Port Charlotte.
He was born
April 21, 1925, in Chicago, Ill. He relocated here in 1976 from Lockport, Ill. He owned and operated a landscaping business in Port Charlotte before his retirement.
Mr. Kenney taught taxidermy at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and stamp collecting. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 110.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Pleski, in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marion L. Kenney of Port Charlotte; three daughters, Karen L. Pleski of Port Charlotte, Lori (Don) Cones of Bradenton, Fla., and Jennifer (Jim) DeHof of Port Charlotte; two sons, Gregory Kenney of Lockport and David (Kathy) Kenney of Plainfield, Ill.; a sister, Shirley Gabriel, and a nephew, Douglas Gabriel, both of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Dawn Pleski, Robert Pleski and Caitlin Kenney; and two great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, no services will be scheduled.
