Lucille Estelle Russell, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at her home in Port Charlotte.
Lucille was born
Sept. 11, 1927, in Gary, Ind.
She moved to the Port Charlotte area with her husband, James, and family in 1968 to start a family business, which was Convenient Food Mart.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Martha) Russell of Baltimore, Md., Dale (Mellissa) Russell of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Gregg Russell of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Susan Malicki of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stacy Malicki, Steve Malicki, Brittany Russell and Aaron James Russell; one great-grandchild, Zack Malicki; a brother-in-law, Richard (Fern) Russell of Port Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Jean Russell of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lehman Russell.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at First United Methodist Church, 507 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.
Franklin J. Kohler Sr.
Franklin Joseph Kohler Sr., 77, of Grove City, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Fla.
He was born
Dec. 1, 1927, in Attleboro, Mass., to Joseph and Marion (Halsey) Kohler.
Mr. Kohler served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Foxboro Company in 1985 after 23 years as a machinist. He moved to Grove City in 1991 from North Attleboro, Mass., and Monument Beach, Cape Cod, Mass. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the board of directors of the Grove City Civic Association.
Mr. Kohler is survived by his son, Franklin J. Kohler Jr. of Attleboro; one sister, Bettianne Pichi of Woonsocket, R.I.; two grandsons, Franklin J. Kohler III and Geddy Lee Kohler, both of Attleboro; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Ruth Jensen-Kohler of Englewood.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3070 S. McCall Road, Englewood.

Virginia E. Magill
Virginia E. Magill, 80, of Englewood, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood.
She was born
July 29, 1924, in Indiana, Pa.
Mrs. Magill was a resident of Englewood for 16 years, coming from Blue Bell, Pa. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family. She was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church as well as head of the altar guild and an active member of Women of Hope.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. King of Sunrise, Fla., and Patricia L. Whitcomb of Ambler, Pa.; one son, Thomas R. Magill of Blue Bell; one brother, Frank Edwards of Mexico; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1997.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Hope Lutheran Church, 14200 Hopewell Ave., Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Clyde Kaminska officiating. Inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

She was born
Oct. 21, 1925, in Cass City, Mich.
Mrs. May moved to Arcadia in 1981 from Burt, Mich. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia.
She is survived by her husband, Milo D. May; four daughters, Lillian (John) Elliott of Stockbridge, Ga., Diane (Bill) Walker of Chesaning, Mich., Trudy (Fred) Hattendorf of St. Charles, Mich., and Deborah (Bill) Gillett of Lachine, Mich.; two sisters, Olive Derpinhaus of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Martha Keyser of Cass City; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Ponger-Kays-Grady, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia.

Alvin E. Taylor
Alvin Eugene Taylor, 83, of North Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Lehigh Acres, Fla.
He was born
July 23, 1921, in Nokomis, Ill.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Helen Taylor of North Fort Myers; two sons, James Taylor and Roy (Joyce) Taylor of Nokomis; three daughters, Helen Reeves and Marjorie Wallace, both of Arcadia, Fla., and Linda Smothers of Taylorville, Ill.; one sister, Gladys Adden of Nokomis; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Taylor.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until services at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, following the services, with the Rev. David Harris officiating.

Elmer L. Silcox
Elmer L. Silcox, 95, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital.
He was born
June 1, 1909, in Charlotte Harbor, Fla.
Mr. Silcox was a lifelong resident of Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Punta Gorda. Elmer served on the Charlotte County School Board for many years.
Elmer is survived by his sister-in-law Edith Silcox of Boca Grande, Fla.; nieces, Jackie Fogarty of Englewood and Rebecca Martin of Minnesota; and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annie in 1987 and his son.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Charlotte Harbor Cemetery with Rev. Gary Beatty officiating. Burial will follow.

Robert C. Brooks
Robert Charles Brooks, 73, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
He was born
Oct. 24, 1931, in Oxford, N.C.
Mr. Brooks served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural economics. He received a doctoral degree in economics from Duke University. He was elected to membership in the Alpha Zeta and Epsilon Sigma Phi honorary societies. Mr. Brooks retired as an economics professor at North Carolina State University in 1981. During his tenure, he was the author of three research publications for the university, a contributing author to articles for several trade publications and numerous newspapers. He was a consultant for the Southern Education Board.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the North Carolina Export Expansion Council, and a member of the Poultry Outlook Committee of the American Feed Manufacturers Association. He was also president of Business Dynamics Inc., a consulting firm. Mr. Brooks was a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the American Economics Association. Upon his retirement from North Carolina State University, he was appointed Professor Emeritus. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty C.; a sister, Barbara B. Brantley of Durham, N.C.; and one nephew.

April 7, 1950, in Champaign, Ill.
She moved to the Punta Gorda area in 1985.
She is survived by her son, Scott Duffany of Willimantic, Conn.; and a sister-in-law, Johnnie Webb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy.

Mildred C. Dean, 98, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Tandem Healthcare of Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born
Jan. 22, 1906, in Adrian, Mich.
Mildred retired as a registered nurse from the Department of Health in Detroit, Mich. She moved to Punta Gorda in 1968.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Mona Dean of Ontario, Canada.
Inurnment will be at Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit.

Edith R. Paldrmann
Edith R. Paldrmann 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Charlotte Harbor Health Care in Port Charlotte.

Edith was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Harold (Tina) Paldrmann of Dania, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Nathan Paldrmann of Smyrna, Ga., and Heidi Paldrmann of Punta Gorda, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.
The services and interment are private.

Norman P. Young
Ret. U.S. Navy CWO4 Norman P. Young, 82, of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born
March 20, 1922, in Vandalia, Mich.
Norman moved to Fort Pierce, Fla., on Dec. 16, 1994, from Vandalia and then to North Port in January 2004.
He retired after 25 years of service from the U.S. Navy, attaining the highest rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was employed for 30 years as an owner of Young Farms, and also a co-owner of Young Custom Combining Service, both in Vandalia. His lifetime memberships included Lincoln Lodge in Zambales, Philippines; William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704; Efton James American Legion Post 206, both in Cassopolis, Mich.; and the military Officers Association of America. He was also a member of Murdock Christian Church in Port Charlotte. Norman was a wonderful cook and his specialty was sausage gravy and biscuits which he cooked for the seniors at Southside Christian Church in Fort Pierce and for special occasions at Pleasant View Church of Christ in Cassopolis, Mich. Norman loved the Lord and served Him as a deacon for several years and was always available to serve communion. Norman also loved his country and was extremely patriotic. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and their accomplishments. He loved his wife and told her every day that he did.
Norman is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gillette L. Young; sons, Kenneth Robert (Terri) Young of Fayetteville, N.C., and James Forrest (Pamela) Young of North Port; daughters, Norma J. Crouch of Carlsbad, N.M., and Celeste L. (Danny) Brady of Dowagiac, Mich.; brothers, Durrell (Ethel) Young Sr. of Ocala, Fla., and Joseph (Pat) Young of Vandalia; sisters, Mary Cassel of Niles, Mich., Rose (George) Gearhart of Marcellus, Mich., Kathryn (Dean) Sheeley of Three Rivers, Mich., and Ruth Proskie of Jackson, Mich.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Forest Young; mother, Loreta Rosetta (Knapp) Young; the wonderful stepmother who raised him, Gladys Irene Young; two brothers, James Young and John Young; and two sisters, Lily Mae Mishler and Ethel Miller.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Church of Christ, 900 E. Gulfstream Blvd., Englewood, with Paul Parrish officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
