Richard B. Hughan
Richard B. Hughan, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006, in Port Charlotte.
He was born
May 25, 1922, in New Kensington, Pa.
Mr. Hughan was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was employed at Alcoa Aluminum as a machinist for 27 years in New Kensington before his retirement.
Mr. Hughan moved to Port Charlotte 21 years ago from New Kensington.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte.
He was a volunteer at Fawcett Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard (Jeanne) Hughan of Glen Burnie, Md., and Charles Hughan of New Freedom, Pa.; five grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Chris, Judy and Patty; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte. Additional services and Burial will be in New Kensington at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Hughan's memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952-5555.

James E. Kreft Jr.

James E. "Jamie" Kreft Jr., 54, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, April 21, 2006.
He was born
Jan. 9, 1952, in Lakeland, Fla.
Jamie was an avid fisherman and loved boating.
He will be greatly missed by his mother, Cecilia Kreft; son, Christopher (Sally) Kreft of Port Charlotte; daughter, Michelle (Gary) Groat of Riverview, Fla.; brothers, Steven and Michael Kreft of Port Charlotte; sister, Cheryl Deppert of Riverview; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of the resurrection will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave., Port Charlotte.
Lloyd H. Zubrod
Lloyd Henry Zubrod, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Ionia, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born
Dec. 27, 1915, in Chickasaw County, Iowa.
Mr. Zubrod wintered in Punta Gorda for the last 22 years.
He retired as a farmer and managed his own farm until the age of 70.
Mr. Zubrod was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington, Iowa.
His hobbies were his love for farming, hunting, fishing, and flying his airplane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wilma M. Zubrod of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Nancy L. (Ronald) Panoch of Punta Gorda and Beverly C. (Roger) Schwickerath of New Hampton, Iowa; two sons, Robert L. (Jannette) Zubrod of Ionia and Roy F. (Rebecca) Zubrod of Iowa City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at Hugeback Funeral Home in New Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton.

Albrecht Hary
Albrecht Hary, 70, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Monday, April 24, 2006, at his Charlotte County residence.
He was born
Dec. 20, 1935, in St. Ingbert, Germany.
Mr. Hary served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1964. He was a registered land surveyor in Connecticut for 40 years, and retired in 2003. He moved from Norwalk, Conn., to Charlotte County two years ago.
Mr. Hary was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brigitte Hary of Rotonda West; one sister, Lydia (Walter) Kichler of Ridgefield, Conn.; one brother, Heinz (Christa) Hary of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish with Father Bart Larkin officiating.
Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park Cemetery.

Thomas Mitchell
Thomas "Tom" Mitchell, 68, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, April 14, 2006.
He was born
George Henry Thomas Mitchell on Nov. 17, 1937, in Tampa, Fla.
Tom moved from his native Tampa to Birmingham, Ala., to Port Charlotte in 1969.
He formerly managed Abstract and Title Services in Charlotte County and owned and operated local businesses including Mitchell's Kwik Lube and another that he co-owned with his daughter, Cyndi's Racecar Collectables.
Tom was a former member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of Charlotte County.
He is survived by his daughter, Cyndi R. (Marc) Richardson of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandson, Jesse Thomas Richardson of Punta Gorda; sister, Ada Jean Pierce of Bradenton, Fla.; one niece and two nephews; and special friend, Billie Sue.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at First Alliance Church, 20444 Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte, followed by memorial services at 5 p.m. The Rev. Dale E. Roberts, pastor of First Church of God, will officiate.
A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Private inurnment by the family will be held later at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Irene Borger
Irene Borger, 66, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
She was born
Aug. 11, 1939, in Pineville, Ky., to General Melvin and Edith Ann (Hensley) Green.
Mrs. Borger worked as a beautician and was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Green of Celina, Ohio; and sisters, Josie Lee Baer of Van Nuys, Calif., Dorothy Alice Whitten of Tipp City, Ohio, and Marie Skiles of Meridian, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 2004; brother, John Green; and sister, Doris Ann Green.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Community Life Center of Full Gospel Ministries Assembly of God Church, 19048 Edgewater Drive, Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Mark Coffey officiating.
Interment of cremains will be at St. Charles Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Madeline (nee-Marlow) Harris, 76, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Monday, April 17, 2006, at TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care in Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born
April 30, 1929, in Myakka, Fla., to Ossie and Pauline (Wingate) Marlow.
Madeline was a lifelong resident of Florida.
She had a unique talent for creating beautiful hand-crotched dolls, crafts, afghans and baby blankets.
Madeline loved to fish. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family and the songs they shared together.
Madeline is survived by her three children, Tammy (Charlie) Bush, Midge (Bill) Mecharchand and Donald E. Platt, all of Englewood; four sisters, Gloria Russell of Bradenton, Fla., Mary Jo Muehling of Okeechobee, Fla., Mickie (Cal) Young of Port Charlotte and June Papy of Miami, Fla.; four brothers, Donald (Flo) Marlow of Bradenton, Elbert (Ursula) Marlow of El Paso, Texas, Richard (Nell) Marlow of North Port, Fla., and Clarke (Sharon) Marlow of Carlsbad, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Wanda E. Collom; a grandson, Bradley J. Platt; a sister, Esther Bridgeman; and a brother, A. D. Marlow.

Andrew J. Motil
Andrew J. Motil, 81, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006.
He was born
May 20, 1924, in Stratford, Conn.
Andrew served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the Red Ball Express, delivering supplies and equipment throughout the European Theater campaign. He retired from Pratt and Whitney in North Haven, Conn., and moved to Rotonda West from West Haven, Conn., in 1986. Andrew was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where he served as an usher for many years, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10476, and the Knights of Columbus Fr. Sebastian Loncar Assembly 2782.
Andrew was also an active member of Senior Friends of Englewood Hospital and served on the board of directors for six years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; daughter, Diana Phaneuf of Milford, Conn.; daughter, Carol (James) Mundy of Rotonda West; granddaughter, Allison Phaneuf of West Hartford, Conn.; sister, Ethel Yanosky of Sebastian, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grove City, Fla.

Joyce Ellen Scott, 72, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Englewood Community Hospital.
She was born
July 18, 1933, in Battle Creek, Mich., to George Horsford and Illa Mae Young.
Mrs. Scott moved from Battle Creek and was a resident of Englewood and Charlotte County for 27 years.
She was a waitress most of her life and worked at several local restaurants in and around Englewood, including Sullivan's, Ship's Lantern, Rotonda Inn and Captain's Club, to name a few.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 113 Auxiliary in Rotonda West.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Scott of Rotonda West; three daughters, Darla Sue Scott of Punta Gorda, Fla., Deborah Kay (Mark) Heckman of Amherst, N.Y., and Bobbi (Mike) Atchison of Englewood, Fla.; one sister, Ardeth Juckett of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Heather Murphy, Aubrey Heckman, Mike Atchison Jr., Dewey Atchison and Rachel Atchison; and one great-granddaughter, Alexius Atchison. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Virginia Wiggins, 79, of Englewood, Fla., died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Englewood Community Hospital.
She was born
Dec. 4, 1926, in Wheeling, W. Va., to the late John and Grace (Medure) Emmerth.
She had been a resident of Charlotte County for 23 years, coming from Wheeling.
Mrs. Wiggins was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for her family and was a member of the Lemon Bay Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Englewood.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ralph L. Wiggins of Englewood; three daughters, Sally Louk of Rotonda West, Fla., Linda Wiggins of Venice, Fla., and Laura Herald of Sarasota, Fla.; one son, Thomas Wiggins of North Port; one sister, Marcella Conti of Wheeling; one brother, Robert Emmerth of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road.

Carol L. Callahan, 66, of North Port, Fla., died Saturday, April 15, 2006.

Steve J. Skukalek
Steve J. Skukalek, 81, of Flushing, Mich., and formerly of North Port, Fla., died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at his home.
He was born
Oct. 8, 1924, in Czechoslovakia.
Mr. Skukalek and his wife, Helen, made their home in North Port in 1976.
He moved back to Michigan in November 2004, and resided with his daughter and family in Flushing.
Mr. Skukalek is survived by his children, Edward (Sue) Skukalek, Sharon (David) Duso and Sandra (Paul) Green; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verna Mesoros and Betty Kozumplik.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Skukalek, on Nov. 20, 2003.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, 2006, at Brown Funeral Home in Flint, Mich.

John Michael Anderson Sr., 41, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006.
He was born
Jan. 24, 1965, in Arcadia.
John was an orange grove tractor driver. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John was of the Church of God faith.
He is survived by his wife, Shari Ann Anderson of Arcadia; son, John Michael Anderson II of Arcadia; and daughter, Shari DeeAnn Anderson of Arcadia.
