Albert J. Braga, 71, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born
Jan. 16, 1934, in Boston, Mass., to the late Albert and Regina Braga.
A 1951 graduate of Boston English, he continued his studies at Northeastern, MIT and Harvard universities. On May 29, 1955, he married Elena Mignosa. Al moved from Norwell, Mass., to Port Charlotte in 1984 where he and Elena opened Liberty Food Sales, a cornerstone of the Murdock Industrial Park. He co-owned Nettas Sub Villa, was a member of The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4, the National Guard Yankee Division, the Elks Lodge and the Sons of Italy. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church of Port Charlotte.
Always ready with a smile and a story, Al treated each and every one of his customers like family. He was an incredible man, husband, father and grandfather. He shared his gift of unconditional love with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elena; children, Cindy Braga-Armstrong of Port Charlotte, and Steven (Kelly) Braga of Cohasset, Mass.; four grandchildren, Alexandria and Tyler Armstrong of Port Charlotte, and Sebastian and Harry Braga of Cohasset; and sisters, Emily (Braga) Verrochi and Irene (Braga) Walters.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Port Charlotte chapel of Roberson Funeral Home with a Catholic wake service at 7:30 p.m. A private committal will be held by the Braga family at a later date.

John P. Balzarini Jr.
John P. Balzarini Jr., 66, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Thursday, April 14, 2005, in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Therese (Pirie) Balzarini; sons, John Balzarini of Hanover, Mass., and Michael Balzarini of Carver, Mass.; three stepchildren, Donald Pirie, Michael Pirie and Christine Pirie; and former wife, Mrs. Miriam Balzarini of Worcester, Mass.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St., Milford, Mass. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St. Mary's Church in Milford.

John J. McCarthy Sr.
John J. McCarthy Sr., 69, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was born
Feb. 7, 1936, in Springfield, Mass.
Mr. McCarthy moved to this area in 1977 from Longmeadow, Mass. He was a long-distance truck driver before retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Norma McCarthy of Port Charlotte; sons, John McCarthy Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael Fountain of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters, Donna Martiniz of Port Charlotte, Linda Woody of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lori Fountain of Punta Gorda; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.

Laura W. McKinley
Laura Wydro McKinley, 87, of Warminster, Pa. and formerly of Feasterville, Pa., and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, April 11, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa.
She was born
in Philadelphia, Pa. She had been a resident of Centennial Station in Warminster for the last seven years.
Mrs. McKinley was a retired employee of the Lower Southampton Water and Sewer Authority. She was active in the Republican Party in Lower Southampton Township. Laura was a life member of the Feasterville Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Trevose Rescue Squad for many years and a member of the Feasterville Professional & Business Women's Club. She was a devoted mother and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, John R. (Nancy) McKinley III of Trevose, Pa., and Donna (Robert) Varkonyi of Jamison, Pa.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Andres of Warminster.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John R. McKinley Jr., in 1994.
Service and interment are to be held privately.

Lydia Pimentel
Lydia Pimentel, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005.
She was born
July 26, 1925, in New Bedford, Mass., to Antonio and Amalia (Ferreira) Santos.
Lydia worked for Easton Sports Wear in New Bedford. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and P.A.S.A. of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Lydia will be greatly missed by her husband of 19 years, Joseph M.; daughter, Terry (Larry) Seymour of Port Charlotte; son, Jody Moutinho of Taunton, Mass.; stepson, Joseph (Nancy) Pimentel of Fall River, Mass.; brother, Daniel (Barbara) Santos of New Bedford; and grandson, Jared.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2005, at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A Mass in celebration of Lydia's life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be in New Bedford on Thursday, April 21, 2005.

William C. Rollins
William C. "Bill" Rollins, 64, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Friday, April 15, 2005, in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born
Oct. 5, 1940, in Falls Church, Va.
He moved to Charlotte County in 1979 from Falls Church. Bill was the co-owner and operator of the Mrs. Blueprint in Port Charlotte with his late wife, Lois Fay, who preceded him in death in July 2003. He was a former member and past president of the Port Charlotte Business Association, and was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his two sons, William "Billy" M. Rollins of Port Charlotte, and Richard C. Rollins of Punta Gorda; daughter, Cynthia Ann Naylor of Jacksonville, N.C.; one brother, Marvin Showalter of Lillian, Ala.; one sister, Kathryn Steinert of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Casey, Mik and Danielle Naylor, and Hunter Rollins.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Port Charlotte chapel of Roberson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert B. Mattingly, of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, will officiate.

William H. Bayer
William H. Bayer, 92, of Deep Creek, Fla., and formerly of Englewood, Fla., passed away Monday, April 11, 2005.
He was born
Dec. 15, 1912, in New York City, N.Y.
Mr. Bayer retired as a superintendent in the construction industry in Trenton, N.J. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 31. He was also a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Trenton. Mr. Bayer moved to Englewood in 1978 from West Trenton, N.J., and to Deep Creek in September 2003. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, and he was a member of the Elks in Englewood.
Mr. Bayer is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughter, June Nix of Cottondale, Fla.; son, William B. Bayer of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister, Lillian Huber of Brick Township, N.J.; brother-in-law, Gordon Kerlin of Maryland; grandchildren, Tracy Smith, William Nix, Brian Nix, Albert Nix, Ronald Nix and James Nix; and great-grandchildren, Austin Nix, Felicity Nix, Caleb Nix and Kayla Nix.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Earl E. Duke
Earl E. Duke, 90, of Fairfield, Ill., and formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born
Nov. 18, 1914, in Cisne, Ill., to Clinton M. Duke and Rada O. Shaw.
Mr. Duke served in the U.S. Army. He retired as foreman from the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria, Ill. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Port Charlotte, Fla., the Masonic Lodge of Tremont, Ill., Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite, Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in Port Charlotte, and Morton Christian Church in Morton, Ill.
Mr. Duke is survived by his five sisters, Gladys (John) Perkins, Erma (James) Kennedy, Wreatha Wicks, Doris Hess and Wilma (Bill) Endicott ; a brother, Roy Duke; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, on Aug. 25, 2004; as well as three brothers and his parents.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at the funeral home, with Bob Owen officiating. Burial will be at Cisne Cemetery in Cisne.

Florence Fornander
`Florence Fornander, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005.
She was born
March 28, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mrs. Fornander was a homemaker and moved to the Punta Gorda area in 1990 from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Henry; daughter, Elaine (Tom) Collins of Punta Gorda; son, John (Beverly) Fornander of Punta Gorda; and grandchildren, Rick Fornander, Rob Fornander, Lisa Flavin and Mary Alice Kellogg.
Private memorial services will be held.

Marguerite Pozzi, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, April 11, 2005.
She was born
April 27, 1916, in Benton Township, Mich.
Mrs. Pozzi retired as a secretary from Union 602 in Lansing, Mich. She moved from Charlotte, Mich., to the Port Charlotte area in March 1983. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
Mrs. Pozzi is survived by her husband, Frank W. Pozzi Sr.; son, Alan (Connie) Upright of Charlotte; stepsons, Bob (Maggie) Pozzi and Bill (Jackie) Pozzi, both of Utica, Mich.; brother, Richard Kasper of Oregon; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan.

Karen Eda (Dillon) Tanner, 64, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, April 11, 2005.
She was born
May 11, 1940, in Burr, Neb.
She lived in Lincoln, Neb., until retiring to Punta Gorda with her husband, Donald Tanner, in 1994. Don and Karen were active in many community associations.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 43 years, Donald of Punta Gorda; sons, Scott (Diane) Tanner of Stafford, Va., and Andrew (Ann) Tanner of Lincoln, Neb.; daughters, Kelly (Mike) Reeves of Bakersfield, Calif., and Donnell (Richard "Chub") Chubbuck of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Eric Tanner, Michael Reeves, Addie Reeves, Stephanie Tanner, Steven Tanner, Samuel Tanner, Jessica Schumacher and Justin Schumacher; brothers, Francis White, Robert White and Chuck Kaiser; and sister, Margaret Squire. Karen will be missed by all her family and friends, along with a very special friend, Marlene Denman, R.N., from Hospice.

Wayne O. Cox
Wayne O. Cox, 79, of New Carlisle, Ind., and formerly of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005, in the Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle.
He was born
June 3, 1925, in Hamlet, Ind., to Merrill and Myrtle (Baille) Cox.
Wayne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Esther Ruth Cochran in South Bend, Ind., on Feb. 19, 1948. He retired as an engineer from Conrail Railroad in March 1984 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 297 and the Terre Coupee Lodge 204 F&AM in New Carlisle. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Arcadia and the United Brotherhood of Retired Railroaders. Wayne was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda (Tim) Moffitt of New Carlisle and Charyl (Scott) Joslin of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Bruce (Cheryl) Cox of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Kelsi Moffitt, Keegan Moffitt, Bridgette Joslin, Brandon (Kristy) Joslin, Beau (Tiffany) Joslin, Jenna Cox and Tyler Cox; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Braxton and B. Garrett Joslin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, on Jan. 10, 2001.

Floyd W. Graham, 69, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005.
He was born
Jan. 23, 1936, in San Bernadino, Calif., and moved to this area three years ago from Vancouver, Wash. Mr. Graham retired from American Airlines, Food and Beverage Division.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Joan Blakeley of Rushville, N.Y.; sisters, Valerie Soristo and Kimberly Keding, both of California; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
