Perry Martin Pittman, age 50, was born
Jan. 17, 1964 in Chattanooga, TN and died Dec. 28, 2014. He was a resident of Holmes Beach, FL where he was the owner of Tortilla Bay Grill. He leaves his father, Frank Pittman of Crossville, TN his mother, Bettie Pittman and brother, Dr. Ed Pittman of Athens, GA & brother, Scott Pittman of Austin, TX. A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sat. Jan. 3, 5:00 pm at the public beach in Holmes Beach, FL. Pastor Mark Alt will preside over the service.
Dr. Charles Sumner Quimby, M.D.
Dr. Charles Sumner Quimby, MD, 90, Bradenton, passed away Dec. 29, 2014.
Dr. Quimby was born
March 31, 1924 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Edward Mark and Mary (Pemberton) Quimby. He lived in Columbia, SC until he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He was a Navy corpsman with the U.S. Marines on Guadalcanal and landed with the assault waves on both Guam and Okinawa.
On returning to the states he and Martha Allen of Spartanburg, SC were married.
Dr. Quimby then graduated from Emory University with a degree in general science. He then graduated from The University of South Carolina with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy, and then from the Medical College of Charleston, now known as The Medical University of South Carolina with a M.D. degree.
Dr. and Mrs. Quimby moved to Bradenton, in 1958.
He was past president of the Manatee Medical Society, past Chief of Staff of Manatee Memorial Hospital. Was a Charter Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Physicians. He was also a member of the Florida Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and in 1990 was elected Doctor of the Year at Blake Medical Center, before retiring from his medical practice in 1991.
Dr. Quimby was also a longtime member of the Bradenton Yacht Club and the First United Methodist Church of Bradenton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Martha Allen Quimby of Bradenton, one son; Hugh and his wife Pat of Tampa, three daughters and their husbands; Becky and Rick Offutt of Charlotte, NC, Lynn and Robert Pennock of Tallahassee, Marty and Jimmy Jernigan of Monroe, NC, eleven grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12Noon-1 P.M. Wednesday (TODAY), Dec. 31, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. West, Bradenton with a celebration of Dr. Quimby’s life to follow at 1:00 P.M. with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Private interment will take place at the Sarasota National Cemetery.

Mr. Douglas G. Myers
Douglas G. Myers, 52, of Bradenton, passed away on December 19, 2014.
Douglas was born
on January 28, 1962 in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Herbert Max and Shirley (Smeltzer) Myers. He has been a resident of Manatee county since 1980 coming from Goshen, Indiana.
He was the owner for over 25 years of Doug Myers Construction. He also served as a coach and on the Board for the Manatee East Little League which is now known as Lakewood Ranch Little League. And assisted in the construction of the concession stand at the Lakewood Ranch Little League Park.
Was predeceased by his brother, Terry, and is survived by his two children, a daughter, Taylor and son Trevor both of Bradenton, two brothers, Paul and his wife Betty Myers of Sarasota, Roger Myers of Indiana, step-mother, Sharon Myers of Goshen, Indiana and many extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Douglas’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Lakewood Ranch Little League Field, 5350 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, Fl.

Mr. Earl R. Kiefer
Earl R. Kiefer, 82, Bradenton, passed away Dec. 20, 2014
Earl was born
on Feb. 19, 1932 in Parma, OH to the late Arthur and Ida (Jourgenmeier) Kiefer. He served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict by serving with the United States Navy where he received numerous decorations and citation.
After his military service he went to school to become a Nuclear Engineer. He worked for many years with CEI Power in Lake County, OH. And has been a resident of Manatee County for many years, living in the Braden Castle area until about a year ago when they moved to Westminster Shores.
Earl lived a very lustrous life. During his lifetime he played minor league ball for the Cleveland Indians. He and his beloved wife Anna would provide music entertainment in various local facilities such as the Westminster Shores, Friendship Center, the Renaissance Center on 9th Street, and other various places. He was a very accomplished musician playing the guitar, harmonica, banjo to name a few. He was very active with the Adopt a Family organization, and had sponsored many children overseas over the years.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward, and is survived by his wife Anna Kiefer of Bradenton, six sons; Bob (Fran) Bevis, Scot (Tracy) Bevis, Bret (Titin) Bevis, Jim Bevis all of OH, Chris (Susan) Egler, Calvin (Kathy) Egler both of Bradenton, three daughters; Susan (Bud) Ramkey of Ohio, Carolyn (Ron) Schuur of Jeffersonville, IN, Charlene (Dick) Frakes of Elizabethtown, IN, nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.
Services will be held at a later date and time.

Mrs. Alta J. Moss
Alta J. Moss, 96, Sarasota, passed away December 19, 2014.
She was born
April 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Alfred G. and Gertrude Addison Roan, in Cleveland, FL – moving to Sarasota as a young child. She was a true Christian in every sense of the word. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a dear friend to all who knew her. She always put others first, constantly serving, never expecting anything in return. She loved to work in her beautiful yard and to tend to her flowers – and she was a wonderful cook.
She was employed with Maas Bros./Burdines for twenty years, retiring in 1992, as head of sales in the drapery dept. She grew up on the Ringling Estate, where her father was employed as the Captain of John Ringling’s yacht. She often spoke of those years, and of the many interesting and eclectic people that would come and go to the Ringling residence, and about how good Mr. Ringling was to her father. Her lifelong love of flowers – especially roses, came from her admiration of the beautiful Ringling rose garden, which her father lovingly cared for after Mr. Ringling’s death. She will be greatly missed, but will live on forever in our hearts.
Mrs. Moss was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Floyd L. Moss, Sr. and brother’s Nick Roan and George Roan. She is survived by her loving Children: Floyd L. “Buddy” (Lisa) Moss of Cape Coral, FL, Gary L. (Mary Anne) Moss of Sarasota, Daniel K. (Angela) Moss of Stokes, NC and daughter, Mary (Sam) Moss Ault of Savannah, GA as well as devoted brother, Eugene M. Roan of Sarasota, 9 Grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held.

Mrs. Linda Jane Clay
Linda Jane Clay, 72, Sarasota, passed away December 19, 2014 at her residence.
Linda was born
on June 2, 1942 in Marshall, Michigan to the late Lloyd Dale and Shirley Jean (Jenkins) Sands. She has been a resident of Manatee County for many years. Linda was a registered nurse in the Manatee and Sarasota County area. She formerly served as Director of Nursing for Westminster Manor in Bradenton, and other nursing facilities in the area. And at the time of her passing was retired from TideWell Hospice where she worked as a R.N. for 12 years. She was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 ½ years, Hugh Edward Clay of Sarasota, four caring children; Deborah Jean Tresca and her husband Fred of Woodlands, Texas and Vale, Colorado, Jeffery Stuart Clay and his wife Janie of Sanford, Florida, Timothy Scott Clay and his wife Kathy of Enterprise, Alabama, Jennifer Lynn Nichols and her husband, Geoffrey of Bradenton, Florida, one brother, John Sands and his wife Elaine of Bradenton, Florida, one sister, Susan Weller and her husband William of Merritt Island, Florida, seven grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends over the years.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
