Mr. Willie James Gipp
Willie James Gipp, 63, of Bradenton, passed away September 12, 2014 at his residence in Bradenton.
Willie was born
on March 22, 1951 in Choctaw, Alabama to the late John Archie and Cora Mae (Young) Gipp. Me moved to Sarasota in 1983 coming from Detroit, Michigan, and then in 2001 moved to Bradenton. Willie worked as a roofer for several different companies including Job-Corp. He was a member of the Bayshore Church of the Nazarene.
He was predeceased by his sister Carrie Lee Gipp, and is survived by his loving wife Debra Ann Gipp of Bradenton, two sons; Sammie Lee Upshaw, Timothy Colten both of Sarasota, one daughter, Anna Lisa Upshaw of North Port, brother, John Archie Burke of Detroit, MI, nine grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Willie’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Bayshore Church of the Nazarene, 2311 57th Avenue West, Bradenton.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to TideWell Hospice in his memory.

Mr. Kenneth Bernard Busch, Jr.
Kenneth “Kenny” Bernard Busch, Jr.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on October 9, 1951, and passed away on August 18, 2014.
He attended Princeton High School and Rutgers University before moving to the Sarasota/Bradenton area of Florida. Following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, he became a general contractor, later becoming state certified and starting his own company.
Kenny was a former president of the Florida Midget Racing Association, in which he participated as an owner and driver.
His hobbies included body building, Aikido, watching softball and baseball, playing with his dog, Mickey, and enjoying the company of his friends.
Kenny leaves behind his fiancé, Kim Kruysman, of Sarasota, Mickey, and many friends all over the country.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Urfer Family Park Pavilion, 4000 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, Florida.
Mrs. Maria Luz Karp
Maria Luz Martinez Karp, age 92, passed away on February 14, 2015 surrounded by family.
Luz was born
on March 21, 1922 in Tupiza, Bolivia where she was raised by her grandmother, Felicidad Murillo. She became an elementary teacher in the Aramayo tin mines in Bolivia, where she taught children of all ages in a single class room. It was while teaching in Telamayu that she met a young American metallurgical engineer who she fell in love with and married less than a year later.
Luz and Philip Karp and their infant and toddler girls left Bolivia in 1951 to begin their life together in the United States. In Mount Vernon, NY, Luz cared for her young family, became familiar with American culture and proficient in the English language. Later she would proudly become an American Citizen. In 1954 the family moved to Ann Arbor MI where they raised their family for the next 20 years. Luz and Phil also lived in Reading PA and Indianapolis IN before retiring to Las Cruces NM. In 2004 they moved to Bradenton Florida to be closer to family.
Luz enjoyed life. She had many interests and hobbies that gave her great pleasure: sewing, crocheting, flower gardening, bridge, painting, jewelry making, traveling, bridge, reading biographies, shopping, discussing current events, tangos and the music of Gilbert and Sullivan to name a few. She loved “going and doing”. She took senior citizens on trips to Europe, taught Spanish through the adult education program in Ann Arbor and sold Avon, all during the same period of time. She volunteered in elementary school cafeterias, supervising children. In Indianapolis she was a docent at the Children’s Museum and an interpreter at the 1987 Pan Am Games.
But most important, were her family and friends. When she made a friend, it was for life and you were cherished. She was always there for her family. In the 60’s she sponsored her sister and her two young children from Bolivia, opening up a new life to them in the United States. Several times a year, she sent large cartons of clothing to her many nieces and nephews in Bolivia.
Time never lessened Luz’s amazement – and gratitude – that her life brought her to live in the United States.
Luz is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Philip, daughters Rosemarie Karp and Joyce Karp (Gary Hickerson) of Holmes Beach, brothers Lucho, Alberto and Willy Barragan, grandchildren, Jessica McBee (Shawn) and Nathan Hickerson and many devoted nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Raquel Barragan, sisters Elsa Barragan and Nellie Schemmel.
A Catholic Mass is scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at Westminster Towers, 1533 4th Avenue West in Bradenton. A reception will follow.
Luz will be laid to rest on March 6th at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota Florida.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
Mr. Ronald Lee Johnston
Ronald Lee Johnston, 88. Bradenton, passed away Feb. 14, 2015.
Ronald was born
on July 19, 1926 in Chicago, IL to the late Anselm and Ethel (Freeland) Johnston. He served with the US Army during WWII. He was a retired civil engineer and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis.
He moved to Bradenton 26 years ago coming from Indianapolis, IN. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Bradenton, and Sarasota Shrine in Sarasota where he was a member of the Legion of Honor.
Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeanne Johnston of Bradenton, brother Jack (Joyce) Perry of Chicago, IL, sister, Peggy Sue McDowell of Deltona, FL, and family members and friends.
A Celebration of Ronald’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Bradenton. Private inurnment will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota.
Donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital in his memory.

Deborah G. Friedman, 61, of Bradenton, passed away on Feburary, 10, 2015.
Deborah is survived by her loving family.

Vincent P. Shetzline Jr, 83, of Parrish Fl, passed away February 2, 2015.
Vincent will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors.
Rev. Lazaro M. Uribe,Jr.
Rev. Lazaro M. Uribe, Jr., 61, Palmetto, passed away Feb. 12, 2015.
Rev. Uribe was born
Feb. 23, 1953 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico to Lazaro M. Sr., & Leyla (Sauri) Uribe. He received his Bachelors of Theology degree in CA, and was ordained in the early 1980's by the Assembly's of God in Wisconsin to preach.
During his ministry he pastured churches in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Massachuetts, and Texas. He was a published author of two books.
He moved to Palmetto 3 years ago coming from Rio Honda, TX. He attended the Casa Restauracion Salem Church in Palmetto and RiverLife Church in Bradenton.
He was predeceased by his father and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Sharon Uribe, three dear children; Joshua (Christina) Uribe of Palmetto, Angelica Uribe of McAlen, TX, Charity Uribe of Palmetto, mother, Leyla Uribe of Bay City, MI, brother, Jerry (Tamara) Uribe of Minneapolis, MN, sister, Leyla (Don) Ayersman of Morgantown, WV, four grandchildren and many brothers and sisters in Christ.
A celebration of Rev. Uribe's life will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Casa Restauracion Salem Church in Palmetto. Further services and inurnment will take place at a later date in Texas.
Mr. Gary Lee Thompson
Aged 65 of Columbia SC, formerly of Cheshire, CT, died suddenly on February 7, 2015 of an aneurysm, while vacationing in Florida.
Gary was born
in Wisconsin, moved to Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and graduated from Bucknell University in 1972. After graduation he moved to Connecticut where he owned several successful retail stores. In 1998 he and his wife, Jean, retired to Columbia, SC. He is preceded in death by both parents, Fred and Arlene Thompson of Middlebury, Ct. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Jean Thompson, his sister Kristen Thompson of Tucson, AZ, four children, Jim Procanik, of Phuket, Thailand, Jerry Procanik of Los Angeles, CA, Stephanie Pawuk, of Tampa, Florida, and William Procanik, of Meriden, Ct. He also, has 10 grandchildren. He was a wonderful father, mentor, and leader, and will be missed beyond words. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Gary would want you to donate to your own favorite charity in his honor.
