Mrs. Helena Dorothy Berrus
Helena Dorothy Berrus, 53, Ellenton, passed away July 22, 2014 at her residence.
Helena was born
on July 20, 1961 in Ybor City, Florida to the late Jose and Janet Garcia. Helena grew up in upstate New York where she graduated from High School. She has been a resident of Manatee County for over five years coming from upstate New York.
She is survived by her loving companion, Michael Bering of Ellenton, daughter and her companion; Lindsey Dickinson and Jay Thorne of Bradenton, son and his wife; Paul and Sheena Dickinson of Lowville, New York, four precious grandchildren with one on the way, and a brother, Jose of Tampa.
Private family services will be held at a later date and time.

Mr. Leslie Carlton Lovestead
Leslie Carlton Lovestead, 91, passed away July 21, 2014 at Freedom Village Health Center in Bradenton.
Leslie was born
October 1, 1922 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, Canada. Shortly after his birth, his parents and their seven children came to Florida by train first settling in Elwood Park, where one more child, Elwood, was born. Leslie graduated from Bradenton (now Manatee) High School in 1941.
During World War II, he was in the United States Coast Guard serving on a patrol ship in the North Atlantic and patrolling the outer banks of North Carolina on horseback. He worked for many years for the Railway Express Agency in Bradenton. He later worked for Bradenton Office Supply before retiring.
Leslie was happiest fishing or cast-netting and spending time with Elwood in Myakka. He was a devoted son, a loyal brother, a caring uncle and a steadfast friend. He had lived the last six years at The Inn at Freedom Village, making many friends among the residents and staff. All loved his smile, ready laughter and playful spirit.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Bonnett, sister-in-law Eva Lovestead, both of Bradenton, nephews Leslie Lovestead of Springfield, VA, Calvin and David Bonnett of Bradenton, nieces Marian Mendez and Judy Futch of Bradenton, and Ardel Gill of Port Charlotte, FL. Ardel and her husband Roy have been Leslie's caregivers since his brother, Elwood, passed away in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Adolph and Julia Lovestead, brothers, Cecil, Earl, Lloyd and Elwood Lovestead, and sisters, Violet Wiggins and Ruth Price.
Interment will be at Fogartyville Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. John Anthony Agliano
John A. Agliano, 62, of Bradenton, FL, formally of Seminole, FL gained his angel wings on July 14, 2014, at his home surrounded by his wife and two daughters.
He was born
in Queens, New York, on January 18, 1952. John was fortunate to work in hospitality for 47 years. He started as a dishwasher and worked his way up the ladder to management in the hotel business. Over the years he did just about every job involved in a hotel. He truly enjoyed the people that he worked with and the guests that he met who returned year after year.
John loved to cook for his family and friends and looked forward to “pulling a cork” on Thursday nights with his best buddy. He was a great husband, a wonderful father and an amazing papa.
John is survived by his wife Mary Kay of 43 years, daughters Jenny (Grady), Nicole, his “little buddy” Hannah (granddaughter), his father John, brothers Michael and Steven, sister Diane(Kevin), several nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial Services are being held at Hubbell Funeral Home located at 499 N Indian Rocks Rd, Belleair Bluffs, FL 33770 on Saturday, July 19th. The family will receive visitors from 10-11am and the service will begin at 11 am.

Mrs. Eugenia " Gene" Raymond Shannon
Eugenia “Gene” Raymond Shannon (Mrs. Joseph E.), 85, of Bradenton, went to be with her Savior on July 15, 2014. She was born
July 20, 1928 in Lakeland, FL, the youngest of five children of Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Raymond. Gene graduated from Lakeland High School and attended Queens College, Charlotte, N.C. She was a receptionist for the doctors of Watson Clinic in Lakeland. While in High school Gene was very active in the Glee club, church choir, and especially enjoyed being a member of the trio, “Skipperettes” that sang throughout the area.
Eugenia met her husband Joseph E. Shannon, while he attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland. They married on July 20, 1948 in First Presbyterian Church, downtown Lakeland, and moved to Bradenton in August 1948. They became members of First Presbyterian Church, Bradenton on October 4, 1948- (World-wide communion Day).
Four children were born
to Gene and Joe: Sally Jean, Katherine Ann, Joseph Raymond, and Rowland Peek.
Gene immediately began singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school and served as president of the Homebuilder’s class with her husband, and filled many offices of the local Women of the Church. Her first “job” with the Women of the Church in the Presbytery was chairman of the Columbia Friendship Circle, then chairman of Church Extension, Leadership and Resources, Nominating Committee, a District Chairman and First Vice President, President of the Women of the Church, Westminster Presbytery, Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. on April 2, 1970. She served as Moderator of the Synod of Florida Presbyterian Women and Moderator of Westminster Presbytery PCUSA.
While continuing to be active in church and community Gene worked closely with her husband in their business at Shannon Funeral Home.
Gene’s background of Presbyterian ministers goes back many generations. Her grandfather, Dr. T.W. Raymond, was president of Mississippi State College for Women, Holly Springs, MS. This school later combined with Belhaven College now in Jackson, MS. Dr. and Mrs. T.W. Raymond moved to Lake Thonotosassa, FL where he preached at the Seffner Church for many years before coming to Palmetto, FL to preach.
Dr. Charles A. Raymond, Gene’s father, was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, FL for 25 years. He was most active in the Church Extension (Home Mission) Committee of Presbytery, also serving as moderator of the Synod of Florida and Westminster Presbytery.
Community activities for Mrs. Shannon were: member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, President of Beta Tau, ritual chapter, President of XI Alpha Gamma, exemplar chapter; the Entre Nous Organization. She was a member of PEO Chapter CC where she served as President for two years, and with Chapter EI where she held several positions. She formerly served as president of Ballard Elementary School PTA. Vice-President and member of Zonta International. County Chairman for Volunteers for Shelter for Abused Children and served on the Board of Manatee Children’s Services.
Gene served as president of Women of the Church, Westminster Presbytery, serving on the Home Mission Committee of the Presbytery for many years. She also served as President of the local WOC, First Presbyterian Church, Bradenton 1976-1978. Was director of Women’s Florida Synodical Conference in 1977 at Lake Yale, FL. Gene was elected to the session of First Presbyterian Church, Bradenton as an active ruling elder and on January 14, 1979 was ordained and installed.
Gene served for over 30 years with the Presbyterian Retirement Homes where she has served in various capacities including Chair of the Board. She began a Sunday evening hymn-sing at the Bradenton Manor in 1961, which she carried on for many years. She was added to the Board of the Presbyterian Homes of the Synod of Florida in 1976 and was placed on the Executive Committee in 1978, where she served as chairwoman of the Board 1986-1989, Vice Chair and President of Corporations in 1989.
Mrs. Shannon was elected to membership on the Board of Trustees of Stillman College in the Class of 1990 by the 199th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She attended her first meeting in Tuscaloosa, AL in 1987. She was appointed to serve on the Resource Development Committee.
Gene was predeceased by her loving husband Joe in 2001, a son Rowland in 2014 and three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her three dear children; Sally (Bill) McGill of Braselton, GA, Katherine Ann and J. Raymond Shannon both of Bradenton, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton. A Celebration of Gene’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 1402 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton. Committal services will follow at Fogartyville Cemetery, Bradenton.

Mr. Ronald Louis Knowles
Ronald Louis Knowles, 64, of Bradenton, passed away on Monday June 30th at his home. October 13th 1949 in Port Jefferson, NY to Lawrence and Lillian. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1967 and went to Nassau County Medical Center to obtain his radiology technologist license. On the 14th of October 1978 he married his beloved wife Susan Kutsch in Bradenton, Fl. In 1989 he started his family operated portable x-ray company which was duly named Knowles' Mobile Diagnostics. The family business flourished for nearly 20 years and in 2008 Ron decided to sell the company in order to spend more time enjoying his two true passions in life - Family & being on the water.
There was nothing Ron would rather do then go fishing with his family. Ronald is survived by his wife Susan, his 5 children Lawrence, John with wife Rebecca, Sam, Louis and Jacquelyn; his grandchildren Jamilynn, Grace, Scarlet, Sammy and Vinnie; his siblings Joyce and Al Demaio, Theresa Guthrie and Debbie Knowles; his nephews & nieces Michael Kimball & Tara Gutman along with Susie, Jared, Spiro, Krista and Jenni. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald "Satch" Knowles and his parents Lillian and Lawrence Knowles.
Mrs. April Marlea Lucas
April Marlea Lucas, 89, Bradenton, passed away June 26, 2014. April was born
April 12, 1925 in Sandusky, OH to the late John F. and Marlea (Van Doren Hankamer) Boyd.
She was a graduate of the registered nursing program with Providence Hospital in Sandusky in September of 1947. She worked as a R.N. for several years in OH.
April moved to Bradenton in 1959 coming from Willard, OH. She met and married her late husband R. Earle Lucas, Jr. in 1969. She and Earle were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton and have been members since.
Locally she worked for Manatee Memorial Hospital in the 1960’s where she was head of the Emergency Room; she left the hospital to work with Dr. Rodney Adams and Arthur Beaudry in Bradenton from which she retired from nursing.
She was predeceased by her husband, R. Earle Lucas, Jr. in March of 2014 and a son, Robert E. Lucas III in 1989. She is survived by her four dear children Gary and Alice Guthrie of Holmes Beach, Sandra and Murff Lucas-Germany of Atlanta, GA, Sharon and Jim Ingram of Bradenton, Nancy and John Kiernan of Bradenton, and two precious grandchildren; Lindsey and Jeb Garrott of Bradenton, and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 P.M. on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, with a Celebration of April’s life to follow at 4 P.M.
Mrs. Althea Goodrich
Althea Goodrich, 91, Bradenton, passed away June 23, 2014. Althea was born
August 20, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Absalom D. and Gladys (Noble) McGinnis.
She moved to Bradenton in 1948 coming from Jacksonville, FL. Althea was a member of the West Bradenton Baptist Church, and Entre Nous. She will be remember by her family and friends as being a person that was always there to help anyone at a time of need, by providing food or support as needed.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Warren in May of 2009 one brother and sister, and is survived by her two dear children, Clifford Goodrich and Claudia Eads both of Bradenton, three precious grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Committal services will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Sarasota National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
