Mr. L. Edgar Swearingen

L. Edgar Swearingen, 87, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 23, 2014. He was born icon Sept. 27, 1926 in Columbus, OH to the late William Ralph and Katherine (Dorsey) Swearingen. He served with the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII and peacetime following the war, and worked in the Advertising industry as a Print Manager.

Ed moved to Bradenton in 1995 coming from Strongsville, OH. His various memberships included the Masonic Lodge, Palmetto Elks Club, Sahib Shrine of Sarasota, AlKoran of Cleveland, and the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton.

He was predeceased by his first wife Rose and is survived by his loving second wife of 22 years, Mary Dyer of Bradenton, son, Mark Swearingen of Bay Village, OH, daughter, Debra Morner of Oxford, OH, three step-daughters; Susan Dyer of St. Petersburg, Cynthia (Bill) Cantrell of Kerrville, TX, Donna Dyer of Richmond, VA, four grandchildren; Robert and Andrew Morner, Kalyn and John Swearingen, and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bradenton to be announced. Further services and interment will take place in North Olmstead, OH.

The family request that memorials be made to either the Shriner's Children Hospital or First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton in his memory.

Ms. Lynn A. Siudak

Lynn A. Siudak, 66, of Bradenton, passed away on January 23, 2014.

She is survived by her niece Jessica, nephew David and sister Deborah.

Ms. Vicki D. Yoder

Vicki D. Yoder, 61, of Palmetto, passed away on January 21, 2014.

She is survived by her daughter Nina, mother Evelyn, 13 grandchildren, including Haley who was raised by her grandparents and 1 great-grandchild, 3 aunts, 2 uncles, many cousins, her faithful helper Jim and her beloved chihuahua Eddie. She was predeceased by her husband George Smith Jr, father Allen Yoder, and brother Rex Yoder.

Vicki enjoyed bingo with her friends and was extremely creative with all types of crafts. She could recreate anything she saw. She attended church at Church of Hope and Christian Central Church.

Mr. Daniel Lee Mimbs

Daniel Lee Mimbs, 26, Ellenton, passed away Jan. 20, 2014. Daniel was born icon Sept. 14, 1987 in Bradenton.

He has been a life long resident of Manatee County. He was a graduate of Palmetto High School, and worked in the landscaping industry.Daniel is survived by his father, David Lee Mimbs, Sr., mother, Ruth Mimbs, brother, David Lee Mimbs, Jr., all of Ellenton, and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1-6 P.M. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at The Wood Property in Palmetto.

The family request no flowers and that donations be made to LifeLink in Daniel's memory.

Mr. Albert J. "Whiskers" Hoersting, Jr.

Albert J. "Whiskers" Hoersting, Jr, 86, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 18, 2014.

He was born icon April 3, 1927 in Dayton, OH to the late Albert J. and Edith (Kramer) Hoersting. Albert served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a retired service station operator.

Whiskers moved to Florida in 1982 coming from Ft. Wayne, IN, and was an avid golfer locally in Bradenton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Ruth of Bradenton, son; Michael J. (Kathy) of Nashville, TN, two daughters; Wanda K. of Tampa, and Allyson (Jeri Walter) Witt of Kendallville, IN, two grandchildren Gregory Witt and Tristan (Amanda) Witt and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Whiskers life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at the family residence in Bradenton.

The family request that memorials be made to the American Alzheimer's Association in his memory.

Mrs. Sandra J. Nagy

Sandra J. Nagy, 79, of Bradenton, passed away on January 14, 2014. Sandra was born icon in South Bend Indiana to Mildred and Charles Zimmerman.

Sandra moved to Bradenton, 23 years ago, from San Antonio Texas. She was a member and officer of the Manatee River Garden Club. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Sandra is survived by her husband Richard, four sons; Charlie, Tim, Tom, and Jeffery Hartigan, four daughters; Cindy Wenger, Jolene Summerville, Lisa Hendrix and Tish Collins, brother; Charles Zimmerman and 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Private Family services. Memorial donations may be made, in her honor, to Tidewell Hospice.

Mr. Eric A. Engelhard

Eric A. Engelhard, 57, Sarasota, passed away January 12, 2014. Eric was born icon February 23, 1956 in Champaign, IL. He moved to Manatee County over 49 years ago coming from Wilmington, DE until moving to Sarasota in the mid 1990’s.

He was a graduate of the Class of 1974 of Manatee High School where he sang in the late Jim Forssell’s Chorus, played viola in the school orchestra, and ran cross-country. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop # 22 at the Palma Sola Presbyterian Church where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with a Bronze Palm. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. Eric was also an avid pool player, motorcyclist and long-time member of ABATE.

He was employed with Manatee County Public Works Dept. for over 25 years, and was currently working in the Infrastructure Inspection Div. where he held the rating of Infrastructure Inspection Officer III. He also was the only person in Manatee County to hold the prestigious APWA (American Public Works Association) C-P II rating.

Eric is survived by his daughter, Jessica Engelhard and her husband Josh Shiero of Bradenton, father, Dr. Arthur Wm. Engelhard of Bradenton, mother and step-father, Diane (Schultz) and Ed Elliott of Clayton, GA, brother, A. William Engelhard, Jr. of Conway, AK, sister, Lisa Engelhard of Bradenton, and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to ABATE in his memory or the charity of your choice.

Eric got along with everyone. He had an easy going style and was a friend to all. His unique smile came from his eyes, his large beard covered most of his face and he will be missed by many.

Lt. Col Douglas T. Peck

Douglas Peck, 95, passed away on January 4th. He was born icon in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a longtime resident of Bradenton and was a retired Lt. Col in the Air Force.

Doug grew up building model airplanes, attended Parks Air College and joined the Army Air Corp in WWII as a pilot of P38s, C47’s and Spitfires. He retired from the Air Force in 1964 after being stationed in the Philippines, England, France, Germany and six different states. His last station was Langley Air Force Base in Virginia where he was part of the original astronaut program.

Sailing was his second love where he achieved numerous awards and recognition. He served as Commodore of the Bradenton Yacht Club from 1969-70. He crossed the Atlantic 8 times alone in his 31 foot sloop, the Gooney Bird in his quest to track Columbus’s and Ponce De Leon’s logs. From these voyages he determined that Columbus landed in San Salvador and Ponce de Leon landed in Melbourne, Florida. He wrote about his voyages and outcomes and was an honored Florida historian and writer with many books and essays about early Spanish explorers and Mayan Gods.

He was a character and individualist who made his mark and truly enjoyed a great life with a special group of friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Becky Peck; daughter Dot Peck, son Douglas Peck and his wife Kathy Peck and grandchildren, Catherine, Jacqueline & Aaron.

A Celebration of Life is planned at a later date.
