Mr. J. Lynn Gilmore
J. Lynn Gilmore, 90, Bradenton, Born on Oct. 8, 1922 in Wauchula, FL. He came to Bradenton in 1945. Lynn has been involved in several business ventures over the years, including partnership in Harrison Gas Service and partnership and management of Golf Lakes Mobile Home Estates. A lifelong Baptist and son of a Baptist minister, Lynn was a charter member of West Bradenton Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, chairman of building committee and Board of Deacons. In recent years, he has been a member of First Baptist Church of Bradenton. Survived by his wife of 71 years, Genevieve Moseley Gilmore. The family will receive friends from 10-10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in the Memorial Chapel at First Baptist Church of Bradenton, 1306 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton with services to follow at 10:30 AM officiated by Rev. Travis Hudson of Chiefland, Fl, and Dr. Rick Lineberger, Senior Pastor of First Baptist. Burial will be private. Mrs. Bessie B. Heath
Bessie B. Heath, 83, Ellenton, passed away March 16, 2013. She was born
July 27, 1929 in Buchanan, VA to the late James Henry and Ellie Jane (Braffman) Smith. She came to Manatee County in the 1970’s. Bessie worked for Piccadilly Restaurant for several years. She was an avid bingo and games of chance player. Bessie was predeceased by her son; Wayne Heath, and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter-in-law; Carol Heath of Morgantown, GA, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date. Mr. Chalres Patrick Foley
Charles Patrick Foley, 69, Bradenton, passed away Feb. 9, 2013. Charles was born
on August 17, 1943 in Boston, MA to the late Charles and Gertrude Foley. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and later on served as a Chaplain for the Air Force in a reserve capacity. Charles received his Doctorate degree from Andover Newton in MA. He was an ordained minister, licensed Psychologist and a member of the Friends of Bill. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth VanThiel of San Marcos, CA., and his former wife, Patricia Schalk of Bradenton. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sat. March 23, 2013 at St. George Episcopal Church, Bradenton. Further services and inurnment will take place at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego on Fri, April 19, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. with final military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Robbie Joan Prosser, 70, Bradenton, passed away on March 13, 2013 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, FL. Robbie was born
on March 23, 1942 in Midland, Arkansas to the late Leo and Velma (Vess) Frasher. She has been a resident of Bradenton since 2003 coming here from Jacksonville, Florida. While living in Jacksonville she was a member of the All Souls Episcopal Church. Locally she was a member of the Cortez Road Baptist Church. Robbie was predeceased by a Eric and is survived by her son and his wife; Bryan and Melissa Prosser of Bradenton, one sister and her husband; Marsha and Ronald Lamb of Jacksonville, Florida and four dear grandchildren; Kaleigh, Kelseigh, Fin and Quin. Services will be held at a later date and time in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Sue Turner Maddox
Sue Turner Maddox, 80, Cortez, passed away March 1, 2013. Sue, the granddaughter of Capt. Nathan Fulford who was one of the founders of the town of Cortez, was born
on March 3, 1932 in Mulberry, FL to the late Christopher C. and Myrtle (Fulford) Turner. She grew up in the Mulberry area, and lived there until 1965 when she moved to Manatee County. While living in Mulberry, Sue and her late husband R.C. Dick Maddox owned and operated the Humpty Dumpty Restaurant in Mulberry until the mid 1960's. While residing in Manatee County Sue worked as a bookkeeper with A.P. Bell Fish Company in Cortez, as waitress with Moore's Stone Crab Restaurant, and many other local businesses. Sue was a long time advocate for the Cortez fishing village, and was a member of the Island Democratic Club where she served as the Treasurer. She was also active within The Florida Institute of Salt Water Heritage, served as a Docent at The Florida Maritime Museum at Cortez, served as an usher with the Asolo Repository Theatre, volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem for many years, and also donated her time as a reading assistant at the Anna Maria Elementary School. She was predeceased by a sister, Martha T. Osborne, and is survived by her two loving sons and their wives: Richard and Annette of Cortez, Michael and Paula of Terra Ceia, her brother and his wife, Christopher "Skeet" and Kitty Turner of St. Petersburg, sister, Betty Lou Turner of Bradenton, five dear grandchildren, Crystal, Cassie, Karla, Tres, and Christopher, and a nephew Chris Osborne whom she raised, and his two children as grandchildren. The family will receive friends for a memorial to remember and celebrate her life on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 1-3 P.M. at the Swordfish Grill Restaurant in Cortez. Mr. Robert "Bobby" Alan Molter
Robert “Bobby” Alan Molter, 32, Bradenton, passed away March 5, 2013. Bobby was born
in Bradenton on May 1, 1980. He was a lifelong resident of Bradenton. Bobby was a graduate of Manatee Technical Institute, and worked as an appliance repair technician. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. Bobby is survived by his two children; Robert A. “Bobby” Molter, Jr., and Jacquelyn Molter, father, Dan E. Molter, mother, Barbara Babb Molter, three sisters; Lori (Danny) M. Stott, Caryn and Mallory Molter, brother, Danny E. Molter, Jr., grandmothers; Faith Molter and Virginia Babb, and several aunts, uncles and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 4-7 P.M. at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. Mrs. Marioin D. McLaughlin
Marion Dickinson McLaughlin, 90, Bradenton, passed away Feb. 28, 2013. Marion was born
on April 2, 1922 in Bellows Falls, VT to the late George and Marjorie (Lovell) Dickinson. She served with the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during WWII. Marion moved to Bradenton in 1977 coming from Chesapeake, VA. She was a member of the Submarine Veterans Women's Auxiliary, and past member of the Cape Vista Card Club. Marion was predeceased by her two loving husbands; William Stoup in 1976 and John McLaughlin in 2008. She is survived by her two dear children and their spouses; William and Patti Stout of Canonsburg, PA, Deborah Ann and Paul Mitchell of Lake Village, AR, one sister; Dorothy Darling of Burlington, VT, six darling grandchildren; Elizabeth (Dan Roth) Michael, Mary Michelle (Todd) Mazzanti, Jacob Michael, John and Jeff Stout, Meredith (John) Strack, who are also the parents of Marion's only precious great-granddaughter, Leah. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. Mrs. Hazel B. Parker
Hazel B. Parker, 82, Bradenton, passed away Feb. 27, 2013. She was born
on Aug. 20, 1930 in Hines, FL to the late Arbie P. and Effie (Coker) Bracewell. She has been a resident of Bradenton since 1967 coming from Port St. Joe, FL. Hazel worked as a clerk for many different businesses in Manatee County, and also worked as a Data Processor for Blake Medical Center for 3 years. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. Hazel was predeceased by her husband James A. Parker, Sr., and is survived by her two children; James A. Parker, Jr, and Brenda J. Teel both of Bradenton, and two grandchildren; Ashley B. Parker and Sean P. Teel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Mansion Memorial Park, Ellenton. Mr. Jack Ervin Schooley
Jack Ervin Schooley, 92, of Bradenton, Florida, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born
in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on December 25, 1920. He moved to the Sarasota and Bradenton area in 1952 with his wife and children. He owned several local businesses, including gas, propane, home building, and commercial real estate businesses. He was a graduate of Valley Forge military Academy, a member of the U.S. Naval band, a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific theater on the USS Alabama, and a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, Florida. In his retirement, he enjoyed touring the United States with the Good Sam Club, his membership in the Gulf Coast Carvers Guild, and golfing with friends at the Bradenton Country Club. Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty, his sons Dennis (married to Vicki) and Glenn (married to Clyde), and his daughter Joyce Speakman (married to David). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Schooley, Susan Denise Albertson, Christopher Glenn Schooley and Kathryn Eleanor Schooley Faircloth. His great-grandchildren are Jack Stringer and Monaco 'Coco' Wayne (through mother, Jennifer), Austin and Logan Albertson (through mother, Susan), Aiden Schooley (through father, Chris), and Ryan and Alexis Faircloth (through mother, Kathryn). A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton.
Mr. James Leroy Miller
James Leroy Miller, 80, Lutz, passed away Feb. 21, 2013. James was born
March 5, 1932 in Green Castle, IN to the late Floyd R. and Martha (Haverkamp) Miller. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and moved to Hillsborough County in 1958. He owned and operated several service stations in Hillsborough County until 1982 when he started an automotive equipment lift service. He was a former lobbyist, State & National Gasoline Retailers where he was former State president. Life member of the Lions Club, and was a member of numerous civil, and political organizations, and was a well known civic activist in Hillsborough County. He was predeceased by a brother Bill and is survived by his loving wife Mary Jo (Thralls), son, James L. Jr., both of Lutz, daughter, Judy (Kalin) Hall of Sarasota, brother, Tom (Marsha) of Green Castle, IN, sister, JoAnne McFarland of Indianapolis, IN, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Rachel Elizabeth Reed, 44, Bradenton, passed away on February 17, 2013 at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton. Rachel was born
on July 18, 1968 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to Craig J. Roberts and Janet Coking Looker. Rachel moved to Florida in 2010 coming from Zanesville, Ohio. She worked as a telemarketer and was an avid shopper. Rachel is survived by her loving son, Austin Reed of Zanesville, Ohio, her mother, Janet Looker of Bradenton, father and step-mother; Craig Roberts and Florence Mazza of Hanover, Pennsylvania, two brothers; David Earl Pinero of Queens, New York, Hubert Christopher Pinero of Wiles Barre, Pennsylvania, paternal grandfather, John Roberts of Pittston, Pennsylvania. Mr. Augustus C. "Buddy" Ivey
Augustus C. “Buddy” Ivey, 79, Ellenton, passed away Feb. 19, 2013. He was born
on Aug. 14, 1933 in Sarasota to the late Furna and Cecilia (Calhoun) Ivey, and was a lifelong resident of the area. Buddy served with the U.S. Navy. He was the former co-owner of the former Ivey Auto Parts in Bradenton, a longtime family business. He was also a member of the Christ Community Church in Bradenton where he was an active member. Buddy was predeceased by his brother Jimmy in 2010, and is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, JoAnn (Maichel) of Ellenton, two dear children; Julie (Gary) Clark of Myakka City, Tony (Colleen) Baumgartner of Carmel, IN, sister Martha Mead of Sarasota, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at the Christ Community Church, 1803 57th Ave., Bradenton. Joseph Henry Hunsader, 51, Bradenton, passed away Feb. 18, 2013. Joseph was born
on Jan. 31, 1962 in Manitowoc, WI to Robert K. and Joyce (Budnar) Hunsader. He moved to Bradenton in 1967 coming from Manitowoc. Joseph graduated in 1980 from Manatee High School, and attended Manatee Junior College. Joseph was the owner of Hunsader Growers and Hunsader Brothers in Bradenton. His passions included mechanical work, real estate investing, and most of all helping others. Even after his passing he donated his tissues to help other people. Joseph was predeceased by his father Robert in 2000, and is survived by his fiancée, Pamela Harvey of Sarasota, two dear children; Megan (Jordan) Chancey of Palmetto, Matthew of Bradenton, mother, Joyce of Bradenton, brother, Ken (Nicole) of Daphne, AL, sister, Ann (Dan Krone) of Bradenton, and one granddaughter, Tenley of Bradenton. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. on Fri. Feb. 22, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. Mr. Harvey Clark Albritton
Harvey Clark Albritton, 75, Crawfordville, FL, formerly of Bradenton, passed away Feb. 15, 2013. He was born
on Jan. 1, 1938 in Fort Green, Fl to the late W.A. and Alma (Driggers)Albritton. He was a lifelong resident of Manatee County until moving to Crawfordville in 2003. He was a graduate of Manatee High School, and served with the U.S. Air Force during peacetime. Harvey was the former owner of Albritton Pump Service in Bradenton for many years, and was member of the Grace Baptist Church in Bradenton. Harvey was predeceased by a son, John, daughter, Tami, and a sister; Janette Pierce. He is survived by his wife Mary (McClain) of Crawfordville, three sons; Scott of Riverview, FL, Jeremy of Tallahassee, FL, Jay Hicks of Port Charlotte, FL, daughter, Emma “BO” Markham of Crawfordville, FL, three brothers; Lloyd and Arlis of Bradenton, W.A. Jr. of Seymour, TN, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Thurs. Feb. 21, 2013 at Grace Baptist Church, 507 26th Ave. E., Bradenton with a service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Veronica VanLare Orbaker
Veronica VanLare Orbaker, of Bradenton passed away February 15, 2013, a month before her 99th birthday. She moved to Bradenton from Williamson, NY with her husband Elwin J. Orbaker and three daughters in 1951. She was a lifelong educator, graduating with a 3year teaching degree from Geneseo Normal College in1933. Veronica began her teaching career in a one room school house at the age of 18. In 1968 she graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s in Education. She began her second career in education with the Manatee County School District as a reading specialist. She continued at Tillman Elementary until she retired. Veronica worked with colleagues and formed the Manatee County Reading Council, as well as being an active member of the Manatee Business and Professional Women’s Club, Kappa Kappa Iota, and AAUW. After her retirement from the Manatee County School System, she continued in the field of education through her endeavors as a volunteer for the Manatee County Literacy Council until the age of 95. This role led her to the Manatee County Corrections facility where she tutored inmates in reading. She acted as a liaison to the state probation unit and continued in that role until the Bradenton Drug Treatment Center was shut down in 2003. She had a unique opportunity to help one young man achieve his GED and was rewarded with a personal invitation by him to attend his graduation. Veronica later worked with individuals for whom English was a second language. She also was active in Retired Educator’s Organization in Manatee County, Manatee County’s Council on Aging, and served as a board member of the Literacy Council of Manatee. She had a passion for education and greatly influenced her children’s and her grandchildren’s lives. Veronica touched the lives of thousands of students here in Manatee County. She always served as a decent and respectable role model to these young people. Many former students, now grown with children of their own, would stop her in public places and thank her for the support and care she provided them in their educational experience. Veronica and her husband Elwin, celebrated 59 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Ron Poidevin) of Fredericksburg, TX, Yvonne (Frank Hall) of Henniker, NH, and Nancy (Chuck Porter) of Ellenton, FL., her 13 grand children, 20 great-grand children (plus one on the way), and 3 (plus one on the way) great-great-grandchildren. She is a beloved matriarch who loved and appreciated her family in return. Although her physical presence has departed, her legacy lives on in our hearts and in our lives. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor her life, may make donations to Manatee County Literacy Council, Manatee ASPCA, or an organization of choice.
Mr. Daniel Paul Giguere
Daniel P. Giguere, 35, was taken home to his Heavenly Father unexpectedly on the 8th of February, 2013 while on his way to work, the work that he loved so much. He was a PE teacher and coach at Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences. Dan was known as Coach Dan to his students, coworkers and all those who knew him from the skateboarding community. He coached basketball, golf, and pioneered the first school-sponsored skateboard team in the country. He had the vision, foresight and passion to offer the non-traditional sport of skateboarding to area youth. He wanted to provide an opportunity to those who might have normally shied away from belonging to a team. He knew that it wasn’t easy for some kids, and with his captivating optimism, convinced and showed them that they too could be successful. Dan was not only a teacher and coach. He entered into his career with a pure heart and true love of everyone. He never judged. He wanted everyone to feel included and took great measures to be sure that they did. He knew when kids needed extra time with him and found ways to help, whether it was just an ear to listen or a funny song or joke. They counted on him when they felt that they really had no one else, and he knew that.
Dan grew up in Windham, Maine, a small community outside of Portland. He grew up with a love of the outdoors, and anything that involved sports. He received numerous awards throughout the years for his talent and hard work. He was many times an MVP, Best Playmaker, and score leader in steals and assists. In his Senior year, he was honored to be chosen as a member of the 1996 Ronald McDonald All-Star Basketball team. Dan graduated from Windham High School and the University of Southern Maine. He completed his internship at the Bradley Center of Saint Francis in Georgia. There he met his future wife and love of his life, Dr. Alexandra Boozer, while both were working to help the mentally ill. After graduation, they moved to Florida and were married. They have three children, Daniel 7, Andre 2 and Jean-Paul 1. He was a devoted husband and father, fun, funny, gentle and hard working. His boys adore him. His other survivors include his parents, Daniel and Paula Giguere of Rome, Maine. A brother Zack, his fiancée Danielle and two nephews, Graysen and Camren of Westbrook, Maine. His in–laws, Priscilla Boozer, of Bradenton, Bill and Joanne Boozer of Simpsonville, SC and two brother in laws, George Boozer, Zach Buser and wife Susan Buser, also of Greenville, along with countless Aunts and Uncles, cousins, friends and of course his SSA+S family, especially his students.
Dan founded Sk8Skool, a non-profit corporation that serves to promote, physical, social, and emotional well-being of student athletes. Over two years ago, Sk8skool took over operations of Payne Skatepark in Sarasota. His mission through his work at the skate park is to provide free and reduced user fees for programs and camps, including free afterschool programs.
Dan was a beautiful soul whose life was cut short too soon. He was kind, he was brave, he wasn’t afraid to let his feelings show, and he was loved. So very, very loved. He didn’t have to go above and beyond, yet he did. He was sent to do the “good work” which he did so perfectly. Dan, our husband, our father, our son, our brother, our uncle, our coach, mentor and friend, the beat of our heart, our angel in heaven. Blessed are we whose lives you touched.
The Celebration of Dan’s Live will be held on Saturday the 16th of February at First Sarasota Baptist Church, 1661 Main Street, Sarasota. Doors open at 4:30. Service begins at 5:30, with a candlelight vigil to follow at Payne Skatepark, 2110 Adams Lane, Sarasota.
