Mrs. Eleonor Kodman
Eleonor Kodman, 86, Bradenton, passed away December 7, 2011. She was born
on June 22, 1925 in Sewickley, PA to the late Adam and Stannie Ankowski. Eleonor was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Murray State University where she received her Master’s Degree in Communications. She was a retired speech and hearing therapist working with disabled individuals. She moved to Manatee County in 1993 from Murray, KY. Her various memberships included the American Association of University Women, Widows of Whitfield and Whitfield Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, where she devoted herself to a range of responsibilities. Eleonor was a gardener and also expressed her creativity through quilting, knitting, crocheting and sewing. A devoted mother and grandmother, her sweet nature and love of people created a wealth of friends throughout her lifetime. Eleonor was predeceased by her husband Frank Kodman, Ph.D. in 1989 and a son, Linus Adam Kodman in 2007. She is survived by four children: Christine R. (Wayne Jones, Ph.D.) Kodman-Jones, PhD of Bala Cynwyd, PA, Grant Alan (Karin) Kodman of Oklahoma City, OK, Heather Stannie (Erin Mooney) Kodman of Atlanta, GA, Frank Ashley (Martha Kittell) Kodman of Montreal, Canada, and daughter-in-law, Holly Kodman of Paducah, KY. She has 5 grandchildren: Hope and Emily Kodman, Kayla and Ana Jones and Trey Kodman. Mrs. Jean S. Sands
Jean S. Sands, 91, Bradenton, passed away December 3, 2011. Jean was born
on August 31, 1920 in Marshall, Michigan to the late Sidney W. and Cora B. (Bennett) Jenkins. Jean moved to Bradenton in 1957 coming from Marshall. She was retired from the Meals on Wheels in Bradenton as the Volunteer Coordinator with many years of service. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty-six years, L. Dale in April of 2004, three sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her son, John (Elaine) Sands of Bradenton, two daughters; Susan (William) Weller of Merritt Island, Jane (Hugh) Clay of Sara-sota, eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held. Interment will take place in the family plot at Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton. The family would like to thank the Manatee River Assisted Living for their loving care of Jean and would request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to them in her memory.

Edith L. McGuire Hines, 89, Asheville, NC, formerly of Bradenton, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2011 in Asheville, NC. She was born
on July 2, 1922 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to the late Tom & Grace (Kinder) McGuire. Edith has lived in Florida since 1947 until she moved to Asheville in 2003. She was a member of the Tri-City Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, Fl., and a former member of the Sara Bay Baptist Church in Bradenton where her late son-in-law Dr. William L. Ross was pastor. Mrs. Hines was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Elmer Townsend Hines in August of 2001, she is survived by her three daughters; Mary F. Ross of Powder Springs, TN, Carol Bitting of Asheville, NC, Alice Wesley of Arden, NC, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Clova A. Pummill, 93, passed away suddenly, December 1, 2011. She was born
April 26, 1918 in Miamisburg, Ohio. Clova has lived in Ohio, Michigan and Florida, where she made her home for the past 31 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard (Dick) Leroy Pummill. She is survived by two brothers; Rolen Hartman of Lexington, Kentucky and Willard (Mickey) Hartman of Dayton, Ohio. Four children; Carolyn (Warren) Geralds of Neebish Island, Michigan, Barbara Rossney, Sherry (Robert Mahaffey) Thatcher both of Bradenton, Florida, son Richard (Lynda) Pummill of New Port Richey, Florida. Six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Many nephews, nieces, cousins and one sister-in-law. Clova was a thirty-seven year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Sunbeam Chapter 465 in Dayton, Ohio. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. Mr. Neil P. Crews
Neil P. Crews, 83, Bradenton, passed away November 26, 2011. He was born
on September 24, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Clyde & Orpha (Powers) Crews, moving here at the age of 2 months old. Neil served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the former owner of Crews Jewelry in Bradenton along with his late brother William for many years. Then went to work as a Sales Tax Auditor for the State of Florida for over 25 years. He was also a charter member of West Bradenton Baptist Church. Neil is survived by his loving wife Diane Lundquist, three sons; Stephan (Debbie), Dewell, Clyde, two daughters; Jeneil, & Patricia all of Bradenton, two step-daughters; Pamela (Peter) Nelson of Grand Rapids, MI, Angela (Ted) Leslie of Belding, MI, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice G. Lindstrom, 86, Bradenton, passed away November 26, 2011. She was born
on December 24, 1924, in Urbana, Illinois, to the late Benjamin and Edith (Clippert) Koehler. Mrs. Lindstrom was a 1946 graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Psychology. She married her husband, Fred, on November 15, 1947, and moved to Bradenton in 1969, coming from Olympia Fields, Illinois. Her various memberships include Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Beta Kappa, lifetime member of the Bradenton Yacht Club, past member of Bradenton Country Club, member of Service Club for many years, Trinity United Methodist Church, Methodist Women and completed 6 years of Bible Study Fellowship. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Fred, in July of 1985, one brother, and one sister. She is survived by her two loving daughters; Jane (Larry) Rued of Palmetto, and Chris (Ron) Swan of Evergreen, CO, one sister, Joan (Dick) Klockner of Madison, GA, and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 3-4 P.M. with a celebration of her life to follow at 4:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 3200 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton. Private family interment will take place at Fogartyville Cemetery. Doris L. Arwood, 78, Bradenton, passed away November 16, 2011. She was born
on March 6, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Laurel and Daisy Moffitt. Doris was retired for the Farm Bureau in Lansing as a life insurance agent. She moved to Florida in 1975 coming from Lansing. She formerly worked locally as a secretary for the Florida Highway Patrol, Bradenton Police Department, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Pittsburgh Pirates offices in Bradenton. She was predeceased by her son, Donald and four brothers. Doris is survived by her son, Robert Johnson of Bradenton, two daughters; Deborah Mulhausen of Palmetto, Terri Sue Hawthorne of Bradenton, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. John D. Graham
John D. Graham (85), Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Indianapolis, IN died November 25, 2011. He was born
in Franklin, IN on March 4, 1926 to Joseph J. and Grace T. (McNair) Graham. He married Shirley Jeanne Walker of Indianapolis on November 14, 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign until the end of World War II. He retired in 1982 from Stout Field, Indianapolis, Indiana where he served as a full time Army National Guard technician for 32 years. He retired as a First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Indiana Army National Guard, in 1986. In 1974 he had the honor of being with the only Reserve Unit in the United States to be trained by the 3rd U.S. Infantry, “The Old Guard,” in Arlington Cemetery, Fort Myer, Virginia, and to become the first military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit. He served a total of 37 years in the military service. After retirement he retired with his wife to Florida’s Longboat Key/Bradenton area. He liked working with his hands – tiling, painting, woodworking and making things for the children. He loved his NASCAR and NFL football. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Sandra L. Faulkner of Bradenton, FL and Teresa L. (James) Svenstrup of Colleyville, TX; a son, Daniel J. Graham of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, Jeffrey W. (Susan) Faulkner, James K. Faulkner, Paige M. Hughes, Mary V. (Albinas) Prizgintas, James E. Svenstrup III, Shelby D. Graham; and six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan, Jared, Hannah, Jadon and Eden Mae. He is also survived by one sister, Alice Jean Pearson of Las Vegas, NV and one brother, Byron E. (Doris) Graham, of Franklin, IN; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was his request. Visitation for Florida friends will be held at Shannon Funeral Home, Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34209 on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. Services will be held at a later date in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Robert T. Hupp
Robert T. Hupp, 74, Cortez, passed away November 21, 2011. Robert was born
January 24, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA to the late Julian & Bee (Taylor) Hupp. He was the owner of Hupp Electric Motors and Toyota Fork Lift Inc. in Cedar Rapids, IA. A company that his grandfather started in 1912 and he assumed control over the company in 1971 from his father until his retirement in 2004, and still serves as the Chairman of the Board. Robert has been a part-time resident of Florida for many years with the last six years as being permanent. He was a member of the St. Armand’s Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota. He spent most of his life sharing his love of boating with his family and friends. He fulfilled his and his wife Casey’s life long boating dream of successfully completing the loop in seven months in 2004. He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Bill and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Casey of Cortez, four children, Kevin (Connie), Kurt, Brooke (Mike) Jared all of Cedar Rapids, Kerri Collings of Palmetto, and four grandchildren, Chelsey, Jessica, Joshua, and Jennifer. He will always be remembered by his family as a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather and we will always miss you. Services will be held at a later date in Iowa. Mr. Richard Harrison Lowe
Richard Harrison Lowe, II, a civil engineer who worked abroad as general manager for several global mining companies, passed away September 20, 2011 at Manatee Memorial Hospital. He was 96. Born on July 22, 1915, Lowe attended Andover prep school, Cornell University and the University of Virginia. Working for Sanderson & Porter in New York, Lowe served as a consultant to India’s railway system from 1955-1956 before returning to the U.S. After working for Sanderson & Porter in New York, Lowe left to serve as general manager and later as president of LAMCO (Liberian American Mineral Company), an iron ore firm, in Monrovia and Nimba, Liberia, from1960-1968. Back in New York, Lowe worked as a consultant which led to his serving as general manager of Falconbridge, a subsidiary of Inco, a Canadian mining company. At Falconbridge, a nickel mining firm, Lowe lived in Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic for 1970-1977, after which he retired. Lowe served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific theater from 1943-1946, rising to the rank of lieutenant, and was in the Reserves until 1962. He was a prolific writer of letters to the editor to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He was preceded in death by that of his wife, Nathalie Crowell Lowe. Mr. Bradley C. Baldwin
Bradley Charles Baldwin, son of Bradley Scott and Kathleen Baldwin, passed away from heart failure in his sleep on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Mr. Baldwin was 25 years old. He was born
and raised in Bradenton, graduated at the top of his class from Lakewood Ranch High School 2004 and went on to keep a 4.0 average during his tenure at USF. One year ago he moved to Enid, Oklahoma for a business opportunity and was due to come back to Florida this spring. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen, father, Bradley Scott of Myakka City, sister, Amanda Rose (Baldwin) Ferguson of Bradenton, and paternal grandmother, Gwen Ageloff of Enid, OK. Richard P. Lauber, Sr., 82, Bradenton, died November 17, 2011. He was born
on May 24, 1929 in Clifton, NJ to the late William H. & Elizabeth (Dahlen) Lauber. Richard served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Manager of Manufacturing for Schering-Plough Pharmaceutical Company, and Quality Auditor for Bristol-Myers Pharmaceutical Company. Richard moved to Bradenton 16 years ago coming from the Syracuse, NY area. He was very active in the various catholic parishes where he lived, formerly was a member of the Knights of Columbus in NJ, was treasurer of the Village Green Section 12, volunteer with Manasota SOLVE and a member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He is survived by loving wife of 56 years Alice Higgins Lauber, three sons; Richard P. Jr. of Liverpool, NY, Robert T. (Alana) of Prospect, KY, Michael W. (Amy) of Maywood, Missouri, two daughters; Madeleine (Brian) Finnerty of Kernersville, NC, Sheila L. Thurston of Mechanicsburg, PA, three brothers; Bernard (Marilyn) of Spring Lake, NJ, Edward C. Capt. Howard A. Baker, M.D. U.S. Navy-Retired
Capt. Howard A. Baker, MD, US Navy-Retired, 97, Bradenton, Fl., passed away peacefully on November 15, 2011. Dr. Baker was born
on September 5, 1914, in Carlton, Michigan to the late Bert & Olive Baker. He was one of nine children and the first in the Baker family to graduate from college. He attended medical school at Wayne State University, and did his internship and surgical residency at Grace Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Baker completed his Thoracic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Baker joined the United States Navy in World War II. He served as the ship’s surgeon on the cruiser USS Baltimore CA-68 and a hospital ship off the coast of Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped. He was recalled from private practice to active duty in the Korean War and later served as the Executive Officer of the US Navy Hospital Guantanamo Bay at the outset of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Dr. Baker served as the Division Surgeon for the Second Marine Division and the Force Surgeon for the Marine Corps in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star for valor. He retired from the Navy as Commanding Officer of the US Navy Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. He then returned to private practice, retiring in 1994. Dr. Baker moved to Bradenton in 1998. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy M. Baker in 1997. Dr. Baker is survived by his son, Howard Baker, III, MD (Rachel) of St. Augustine, FL, daughters, Denise Baker, MD of Bradenton, and Laurie Baker Parisian, Esq. (Steve) of Ellenton, FL, and five granddaughters, Jillian, Lauren, Megan and Kristen Baker and Julie Parisian. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. Mr. Timothy Irving Miller, Sr.
Timothy Irving Miller, Sr., 72 Parrish, passed away November 6, 2011. He was born
on March 20, 1939 in St. Petersburg, Fl. to the late Hoot & Bernice (Garbett) Miller. Tim was a lifelong resident of Manatee County. He was the organizer of Miller Insulation in Bradenton, founding the company in 1962 and managed it until 2007 when his son took over control of the company. He was also a member of the Bradenton Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Shrine Club, 100 Club, Manatee Masonic Lodge F&AM, and was retired from the Board of Directors for both the Gold Bank and American Bank in Bradenton. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Edith, two sons; John (Tina Marie) Miller of Parrish, Tim Jr., of Bradenton, daughter, Kim M. (Brian) Garnett of Bradenton, two step-sons; Richard Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, Victor (Heather) Johnson of Bradenton, step-daughter, Lisa (Shell) Wortman of Brandon, Fl., brother, Buddy (Sherry) Miller of Linden, TN, sister, Lynn (Lynn) Greenwalt of Ocala, Fl., 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 step-grandchildren.
