Chester Vincent Foerch
March 17, 1915 - May 26, 2008
Memorial service for Chester Vincent Foerch, 93, Orange City, who died May 26, 2008, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Orange City, will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at First Baptist Church of Orange City, 975 E. Graves Avenue, Orange City, with Dr. James E. Hilton officiating.
Mr. Foerch was born in Thomaston, CT and moved to this area in 1983 from El Paso, Texas . He was a mechanical engineer for International Infrared. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orange City and Landmark Lodge F&AM. A lifelong musician, he played the tenor saxophone, cello and the organ, playing the sax in several big bands.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cecelia Foerch. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Foerch; son, David Foerch of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Susan Crabtree of Lakewood, CO, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Ross Lanier Rogers
August 22, 1925 - May 29, 2008
Ross Lanier Rogers, 82, Orange City, died May 29, 2008, in Orange City. Mr. Rogers was born in Lindale, GA and moved from there to this area in 1957. He was a retired construction superintendent for Tomoka Consolidated. He was a Navy World War II veteran. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Carpenter's Union and enjoyed woodworking and furniture making.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Wilma Rogers; daughters, Janice Rogers, Tallahassee, FL, Deborah Morrow, Orange City and Karen Ryals, DeLand; eight grand-children and 13 great-grandchildren.

Fern Koch
February 2, 1920 - May 30, 2008
Fern Koch, 88, DeLand, died May 30, 2008, at Woodland Terrace Nursing Center, DeLand. Mrs. Koch was born in Ferndale, Michigan and moved here in 1977 from Boca Raton, FL. She is survived by two grandchildren, Mark Pomorski of Beverly Hills, Michigan and Amy Hafke of Largo, FL and Syble Doud of Orange City, who provided for her care.
Joseph J. Master
October 8, 1923 - June 1, 2008
Joseph J. Master, 84, DeLand, Florida, died June 1, 2008. Memorial services will be held at St Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand, Florida at 10 a.m. on June 7, 2008. A reception will follow the service at Stetson University Lynn Business School.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joan; his daughter, Jan Tomlinson Master and her children, Jenai Baillie Master, Joel Master Kollinger and Michelle Grace Master, St. Augustine; his stepsons, Scott Popilek and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Madelyn and Gavin, MelBourne, Brian Popilek and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Katelyn, Amanda and Josh, Stuart, Steve Popilek and his wife, Mary and their children, James and Steven, St. Petersburg; his granddaughter, Jessica Dorroll, Tennessee; and "puppies" Duke, Tiffany and Maggie. Joe was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Selene Master.
A veteran of World War II, Joe was awarded three purple hearts during his combat service. He came to Florida following the war to continue his education receiving his bachelor of arts in history from Rollins College. After five years in the broadcasting industry, Joe decided on a career change into accounting, receiving his Bachelors of Business Administration in accounting and Master of Arts in economics from Stetson University. He continued with graduate studies from the University of Florida where he was a professor of accounting.
In 1964 Joe began his distinguished service at Stetson University teaching in the accounting department. Joe became chair of the accounting department in 1967 and began developing what became a premier accounting program helping to train hundred's of Florida's and the nation's top accountants. Among his many professional honors, Joe was the 1978 recipient of Stetson University's McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest honor Stetson bestows on active faculty, the first recipient of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountant's Outstanding Accounting Educator Award in 1985 and was awarded the Stetson University Distinguished Alumni Award in 1992. In 1994, Joe was appointed treasurer of Stetson's Board of Trustees and a year later became the first faculty member ever elected to voting Board membership. In 1995 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Stetson and was appointed Professor of Accounting, Emeritus.
Joe has served as president and vice president of the West Volusia Committee of 100 and as an officer of the Stetson Business School Foundation. A business partner in varied ventures, Joe also served as a consultant to various businesses and individuals domestically and internationally. Joe was active as a trustee on the Bert Fish Foundation since 1991, serving as treasurer and executive vice-president. He was a Certified Public Accountant and partner in the firm bearing his name, Joseph Master & Company, CPAs, DeLand, Florida.

Ann West Hall
April 21, 1956 - June 2, 2008
Memorial service for Ann West Hall, 52, who left this earth Monday, June 2, 2008, will be 5 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Donald Lyon of St. Barnabas and Father William Sharpe of Chapel of Divine Mercy officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand.
Ann was born April 21, 1956, the only child of Dr. Hugh West, deceased, and Elizabeth Rhett West, DeLand. She was a 1974 graduate of DeLand High School and received her degree in fine arts from Stetson University in 2003. As an artist, she was actively involved in the Cultural Arts Center, especially the Museum of Florida Art.
In addition to her mother, her children, in whom she took great pleasure, survive her. She will be rememberd by her sons, Steven (Ali) Costa, DeLand, West Costa, Boulder, Colo., Rhett Costa, Micanopy; and daughter, Hannah Hall, DeLand; grandchildren, Sydney and Jack Costa; and other family and friends.

Charles Jakobsen
September 29, 1923 - June 2, 2008
Charles Jakobsen, 84, DeLand, died June 2, 2008, at Florida Hospital DeLand. He was born in New York and moved to this area in 1963 from Maine. Charles worked as a radio technician for the State of Florida and was a member of the DeLand Railroad Association. As a hobby, he loved to play in bands and share his love for music. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his stepson, Rick Ballentine, DeLand; six daughters, Cindy Ballentine, DeLand, Kathy Flanders, Pinedale, Wyo., Debbie (Chuck) Ball, Rockland, Maine, Linda (Brad) Knight, Lincolnville, Maine, LuAnn (Danny) Dawes, San Antonio, Texas , and Bonnie (Terry) Barnett, O'Brien, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Jean Jakobsen, and grandson, Connor Knight.
Robbie E. Wilkison
August 16, 1931 - June 7, 2008
Robbie E. Wilkison, 76, Orange City, passed away June 7, 2008, at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City. She was born in Miami and moved to this area in 1971. She was a homemaker, a loving wife and devoted mother.
Mrs. Wilkison was preceded in death by her husband, William Harry Wilkison. Survivors include her son Harry (Karen) Wilkison of Sanford and daughter Debbie (Ron) Eklund of Osteen; three brothers, Thomas Tillman, Edward Tillman and Wayne Tillman; two sisters, Vivian Lee and Martha Grady; grandsons, Geoffrey and Jason and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Nina and Jason.

Beth Russell
September 18, 1923 - June 10, 2008
Beth Russell, 84, Orange City, passed away peacefully June 10, 2008. Services will be held at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand. The viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, with services following at 11 a.m.
Beth was born September 18, 1923, in Rockville, CT. She was the loving wife and lifelong companion of Philip Russell for 45 years, and wonderful loving mother of two daughters, Chris Davidson of Jacksonville, and Mary Henrickson of Orange City. She was predeceased by her brothers, Eddie Kibbe, Herald Kibbe and Van Vanesse.
Beth and Phil met and married in Fort Lauderdale where they ran a trucking business together. They moved to Central Florida in 1971 where she and Phil ran an aquarium shop, and a thriving antique shop and furniture stripping business. She loved the challenge of buying and renovating homes, living in Sanford, DeBary, DeLand, and finally settling in Orange City. Beth loved the challenge of starting a new business.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Betty Vanesse, Anderson, SC.

Bebe Singleton
September 8, 1928 - June 10, 2008
Funeral service for Bebe Singleton who passed away June 10, 2008, will be Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at the Lankford Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Born in Wharton, NJ, to Margaret and Arthur Harding, she moved to this area from Barrington, IL 25 years ago. Bebe did her part to make the world go round. She was a stay at home mom and raised two fantastic children. She loved to play golf, bridge and excelled at being a great hostess at so many events.
Bebe is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jack; son, Jack Harding Singleton and his wife Anne, Wellesley, Mass.; daughter, Jill Marlene Lazar and her husband Robert, Howell, NJ; grandchildren, Robert J. Lazar, Jack G. Singleton, Charles A. Singleton and Michael J. Singleton.

George C. Dannals
May 5, 1922 - June 12, 2008
Memorial service for George C. Dannals, who passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, will be 4 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand with the Rev. W. Donald Lyon officiating.
Born May 5, 1922, in Altoona, PA, Mr. Dannals moved with his family to Winter Haven in January 1928. He got "sand in his shoes" in the early years and attended public schools in Winter Haven and graduated in May of 1939.
He was hired by Citrus Experiment Station in Lake Alfred at the age of 17. Mr. Dannals joined the organized Naval Reserve in the summer of 1939 and was called to active duty in July 1941. The previous summer (1940), he served as a signalman on the USS NOA out of Key West. In the regular Navy he underwent boot training at Norfolk, VA, and moved up the ladder, achieving "chief" status in late 1944 and as part of the combat air crew in Torpedo Squadron Twelve aboard the USS Saratoga. After discharge from the Navy in December 1945, George enrolled as a pre-engineering student at Stetson University.
On June 5, 1947, he was married to Cortez (Corky) Tedder. In the fall of that same year, they moved to Durham, NC, where George transferred to Duke University to complete his degree in electrical engineering. His professional career included Tennessee Valley Authority (1949-1951) as a carrier and load control electrical engineer; Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL, as a rocket development electrical engineer (1951-1954), one of the first Americans to work with Dr. von Braun and his group to develop and test fire the Redstone missile-the forerunner of our astronaut program; Radiation, Inc (1954-1957) as a ground station data collection engineer; founding partner of Dynatronics, Inc. (1957-1964); and marketing/communications systems specialist at Page Communications, Washington , DC (1964-1966). The remainder of his career was spent as a business and engineering consultant (1966-1985).
He was a long time member of the Episcopal Church, serving on several vestries, diocesan boards and standing committees. His other philanthropic and volunteer involvements included: Young Life (National Board of Trustees), Habitat for Humanity, Stetson University and Duke University.
In January 1986, George made an unofficial round-the-world trip for Young Life and trhe Episcopal Church covering three continents and ten countries: Southeast Asia (Philippines, India), Africa, (Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa) and Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France). Fortunately, he was able to set up an interview with Desmond Tutu in Johannesburg.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Corky; children Nancy Swindell (Jim), Ed Pratt-Dannals (Joanne), Jim (Carolyn) and Bob (Valerie). Grandchildren include Jason and Claire Swindell, Matthew, Luke and Joshua Dannals, Christopher and Katherine Pratt-Dannals, Danielle and Kaleigh Merritt and Mary Blair Dannals. Also surviving are his brohter Bill, niece Barbara Furlong (Bill) and grand nephews, Rob and Mike Furlong.
